How do I get rid of these little fuckers? 😆not an AIBU but posting for traffic. I have small DC so can’t use anything harmful.

i have been using the dehumidifier to help with condensation as I know they like damp but keep finding them in the washing basket and under dcs bed. I know they are harmless but I want them gone.

please tell me if you have had any luck getting rid of them? What works?

thanks!

@JaneJeffer one had crawled into my damp facecloth during the night and frozen to death. I didn’t realise, defrosted the flannel under the hot tap, and proceeded to smear dead, mushy, defrosted woodlouse all across my face 😂🤢

DH caught me feeding the rats in the shed once. I bought them rat food from Pets At Home 😅

I love you went out out of your way to ensure your wee pests had food with nutritional value.

I'm imaging dh's reaction to you spending your time and money to encourage vermin. I think that I love you 😂

I've had pet rats and I just can't seperate them from wildies in my head!

They're all just creatures looking for food and warmth.

I used to hate spiders so I got a few as pets and now I'm much better with them 😂

Oh dear, this reminds me of when I was 14 and working a Saturday job in the local library. I'm 52 now, for reference. My mum came storming in shouting at the top of her voice about what a slut I was because she'd found silverfish under my bed.

I just find their little quick run very endearing 😂

Me too, I love them. Sweet little silvery things, so pretty.

YABU

Eh?

Diatomaceous earth. You need to use it daily for a few weeks however. Hoover regularly and keep your house below 75% humidity.

I'm guessing she isn't the most stable of people?

Did she think it was something else or is there something I'm missing here?

I hate them! Diatomaceous earth is what worked for me. It's just silica powder I think, which removes the moisture silverfish love

We had them in the office once- devilishly hard to get rid of. In fact, not sure they ever did…. We’ve moved now!

I think this might be Keith's brother!

AllTheChaos · 04/02/2024 01:28

That’s the type here, @SuzieB7! scared the life out of me the first time one nearly ran over my foot!

SuzieB7 · 04/02/2024 09:42

I know, I find them so horrible!! Some get really big and they're hairy and the long tails, just yuk!! We've had loads of Pest control but it hasn't really worked although they have reduced a bit. We are now working to just seal up all gaps in the house. I spoke to someone online who had successfully got rid of them and he said to seal seal seal!

Quick update - mine have had baby silverfish!

Dp is off work this week so is doing night feeds with bubs tonight so unable to sleep I decided to hop in the bath and they're so wee, I'm delighted. Told dp and I got, "surprised you aren't throwing them a baby shower". 😂

Treehugger22 · 12/02/2024 03:31

Hate them but feel so bad killing them so leave them be
