The abdominal surgery must have been pretty huge to expect a fortnight stay in hospital. I had a total gastrectomy and total vagotomy and only stayed ten days.

It says up to 14 days, gives the woman some time to recover without being hounded by the press. She may leave after 48 hours or whatever. Her health isn't a public issue.

Don't reallly need to know HRH's prostate either

If HM's prostate op encourages other men to get it checked out then it is something we need to know about, men get ill too!

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 18/01/2024 19:36

The not my King people are twats. As if their opinion is they only one that matters and the rest of us are morons for not agreeing with them.

They always know stuff all about world history and say ridiculous things like ‘we’d turn Buckingham Palace into a shelter for the homeless’ and other such pie in the sky guff that would never happen in a million years. If we abolished the monarchy it would be seconds before Buckingham Palace was sold and had been turned into a Starbucks and the profits had been passed on to Michelle Mone (or her like) for a pointless government contract. They idea that anyone on the street would see a penny is over idealistic student politics.

FFS, the poor woman can't even have an operation without folk whingeing.

Current state of nhs where I am we discharge most hysterectomies same / following day

But this is £££ private with 24/7 personal Doctor and access to anyone in medicine and any speciality literally a phone call away. Whatever she has had done its not my business nor do I care. Unless she comes out with enormous lips and/or gigantic implants and announces she is doing Royal porno then I might be surprised.

Perhaps she’s had an ovarian cyst. The treatment for those is usually to whip the whole lot out. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Christ alive you’re so wrong. Most cysts can be removed using laparoscopy -keyhole surgery with dc the next day
You’ve made it sound like a plumber hoiking out a u bend

She has children who are active and used to Mom taking an active role in their care and schooling. Maybe the extra hospital time is to force her to take time for herself.

I'd see a Buckingham Hilton in the future.

Don’t be ridiculous, they don’t “whip everything out” for an ovarian cyst 😂 Cystectomy is done laparoscopically, removing just the cyst, and you can go home the next day usually.

Depends how big it is, if it's twisted or burst, or if they have any concerns about cancer.

I had a cyst (which did turn out to contain cancer cells), they whipped everything out for me. I was in hospital for 5 days, they usually want you up and about asap as it's better for your recovery to be mobile.

Well, he is my King. I'm a subject and have no choice in the matter. I'd rather not be and we'd clearly be much better off as a society if we didn't spend so much money maintaining the inequality, of which the Monarchy is part of.

We'd be healthier, better educated, have less crime etc. It also costs us £128 billion to maintain the inequality, that's without including the billions of pounds worth of assets held by our Royals.

If you can't see that going from one of the most equal of the world's richest countries to the second most unequal in 50 years and doubling child poverty in 40 years is dangerously unsustainable. Then you're the foolish one.

An unelected billionaire head of state for a crumbling increasingly unequal society, administered by a corrupt, authoritarian & incompetent government isn't going to last forever. You don't need to have studied history or politics to realise that.

IcedPurple · 18/01/2024 21:27

Well, he is my King. I'm a subject and have no choice in the matter. I'd rather not be

You'll then be relieved to hear that Britons have not been 'subjects' for over 40 years now.

Cookiesforeaster · 18/01/2024 21:28

My first thought were she’s getting the mummy works done. Tummy tuck and uplift. It’s irrelevant if you’re slim / thin, you can still end up with a mum tum and a bit of saggyness after three kids. Sometimes it’s more obvious if you didn’t have it before!

nomdegrrr1 · 18/01/2024 21:31

Ovarian cysts can be tricky, though. My mother was seriously ill after her operation and woke up to a priest saying the last rites over her. She was hospital for a while, although that was back in the 1970s. I'm sure that some are easily dealt with, others are more complex.

It's not necessarily the ovaries though. The abdomen contails lots of squidgy bits and there are all sorts of things that could demand rest after treatment.

Itwasafterallallaboutme · 18/01/2024 21:35

Boomer55 · 17/01/2024 17:06

Apparently it’s a hysterectomy. This does take some recovery time, but if you have servants, Nannies and chefs, it’s obviously easier than it is for most women.

They said that she would be returning to Windsor for her convalescence. If they mean to her home rather than the Castle, then they don't have any live in staff their. They do their own cooking when at their Windsor home, and the Nanny does not live in either - not that she would personally help the Princess anyway.

As they probably need to stay in that area for the children's school, I imagine that she will be fine at their home in Windsor, as she is normally very fit. However, if they did still need some extra help for a while, I imagine that they would either decamp to the Castle, or, if it is within a reasonable driving distance to the children's school, to her parents home instead.

As for her reason for needing an operation, the only thing I will say is that whatever the problem is, it is not being resolved by using key-hole surgery, as that should not need such a long stay in hospital. Or maybe, as it is supposed to have five star hotel living standards, maybe she is staying in longer so that Louis can't just go running in and jump on her in the bed, or whilst sitting in a chair!
I hope she has a very quick and pain free recovery.

Dymaxion · 18/01/2024 21:39

I think 'abdominal surgery' is a ruse , I reckon she has had her bunions done and can't be released discharged until she can walk in lofty heels again ?

I hope she recovers quickly.

I think that the palace made a huge mistake saying she would be in hospital for 10-14 days. They could have said - successful surgery, short stay in hospital, please respect privacy. And if that "short" stay continued for 10-14 days, they could have said all fine, just a little longer needed in hospital and given a snap of her face smiling and william with some flowers or something. By saying 10-14 days, it sounds very serious and shines a light on how shockingly quickly normal people are discharged. My mum had a full mastectomy with some lymph nodes being removed as well - cancer. She was on a trolley in recovery after the evening surgery - surgery was pushed into the evening as there had been problems unrelated to her. There was no ward bed for her so she was then moved to pre op in the middle of the night on that trolley. She was discharged at 9:30am the next day - from that trolley. Never got an actual bed on a ward. Sent home in really quite a state, only 12 hours after a big operation. I looked after her, brought a bed downstairs to do so and slept in the same room as her as I was so worried about her. This was way before covid, so unrelated to the more current problems. Needless to say the NHS didn't have the funds to do body scans to check for spreading in the years afterwards - and the cancer has of course now spread - picked up when it caused symptoms.

I completely agree. But the constitutional set up didn't change, it was a monarchy throughout and the same monarch throughout.

Sadly the electorate voted for that. The Head of State is irrelevant.
