To ask if Donald Trump could actually be president again?

I've just seen a headline about him now being the front runner for the Republican nomination. Which I assume means it's entirely a possibility that he could then win.

I'm British (English) so I know our current government is a complete embarrassment. But I will never get my head around DT having been president once never mind possibly twice.

How could this happen??

When did Trump said he would change the constitution?

Obama?

Name one thing Obama did right - I never get an answer that is true. Bin Laden, he went when forced only, the troops trained for months and he was told they need to stand down or go and if they stand down news will leak that we knew where Bin Laden was and did nothing - so he reluctantly gave the order. Healthcare - pass it quick and we will figure it out later and during a lame duck vote literally in the middle of the night. Red lines - just a bluff. Pay terrorists for hostages breaking the US's long term policy. Changing collateral damages rules to ridiculous levels. Refugee in place as Clinton did so effectively was changed to bring people who don't want to assimilate to other cultures into other cultures creating hostility and innumerable problems. And on and on.

It's well known. A quick Google search brings up a multitude of reports.

Ah thought so. You can’t back up these claims. Wind up merchant.

ATM, it’s looking very likely, mad though that seems.
Hopefully, it will be prevented through the courts

So Democratic eh? 🙄”

Yes. Law breakers should not be running for the Presidency.

It's more than he took the opportunity because he knew he could get away with it under biden.

Biden made such a mess of withdrawing his troops and leaving them all behind, he made himself a laughing stock. Why should anyone respect or fear him?

Putin and trump had mutual respect and there was at least enough fear of retaliation for him not to risk trying it.

Well, that’s bollocks. Putin would love a Trump
win, as that would fulfil all his desires. Not only would Russia have invaded Ukraine if Trump won, but they’d probably be in Kiev now.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 16/01/2024 10:46

You only need to Google a map of red and blue states to see how the red is dominent especially in the south. Politics swing. It was ever thus. Can any president be says to have been truly great? There's always scandal and drama and to me politics is pure theatre which is scary considering these actors are running countries. It's usually a case of best of a bad bunch. Awful.

I don't understand why the democrats went with Biden. There must surely have been far better candidates. It feels like republicans snuck in in disguise and picked the worst possible democrat candidate!

So why Putin did not invade Ukraine on Trumps leadership?

Yes. Law breakers should not be running for the Presidency.

But that is the problem.
Law breakers, even one that was actually behind bars, absolutely can run for and become President. Because there is nothing in the Constitution to prevent it.
And anyone who serves as an officer of the United States takes an oath to support the Constitution. So yes, with regard to the US Constitution, as mad as it sounds, it is undemocratic to suggest that Trump be prevented from running for president.

I read an interesting article by Dominic Cummings (stay with me!) and he was saying over here we don't get just how vast and disparate America is and to get name recognition across the nation is really hard and it costs so much so they need to stick with people who can generate the money to run a campaign and win the election.

Trump appeals to a wide range of people.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/01/2024 10:54

Is that still the case if the candidate is serving a prison sentence?

user1492757084 · 16/01/2024 10:54

It's unbelievable but I guess so.

He will reverse the influx of illegal migration that has esculated due to Biden cutting the wire barriers. He will exonerate himself of all crimes.
Trump is getting on in age but I think many common, ordinary folk in America see him as their saviour.

keylemon · 16/01/2024 10:55

I dare to say that in the next elections is going to be whoever but Biden. He had his chance.

luckylavender · 16/01/2024 10:57

Anisette · 16/01/2024 08:51

I really hope not.

I wonder how many of his supporters realise that he would ditch all help to Ukraine if he came into power?

Many of his followers would agree with him on that

Europe - go 2000 miles by road and cross many different countries
USA - go 2000 miles and still haven't reached the other coast yet.

kikilaw · 16/01/2024 10:59

Trump had a relationship with Putin and he was also strong enough to stand up to him (he is on record saying he would nuke Russia if they invaded). Ukraine was invaded around a year after Biden's inauguration. In my view this is no conincidence - Putin viewed Biden as weak. Biden's response to the growing threat in Ukraine then really was weak (he ignored it when he should have been acting as a diplomat and then committed to bringing ukraine into nato which was effectively the spark that started the current conflict). The US / Russian diplomatic relationship was much stronger when Trump was in power and I don't think he would have allowed that to happen (not the joining nato - all of the west is in support of that I think including Trump, but they way in which it was dealt with) also his relationship with kim jong un shows he is able to forge relationships.

The Russian situation is very frightening and needs real diplomatic intervention. I agree with sanctions but in the background the west (and predominantly america) should be seeking to resolve this conflict by diplomatic means. That is not going to be Biden - he doesn't know what day it is.

Im genuinely not a supporter of trump overall but i believe that there would have been no war in Ukraine if he had been potus and that ukraine would now be a member of nato or on the way to be without conflict.

AyeRightYeAre · 16/01/2024 11:02

It's very likely. 🥲

nancy75 · 16/01/2024 11:03

xILikeJamx · 16/01/2024 09:02

Also - expect Trump to try to force through a change in the law so he can be president for more than 2 terms...

I get why none of the younger potential candidates have no desire to get involved in any of this - it'll be an absolute disaster no matter who stands up and probable career-wrecker. In their best interests to let the old men fight it out until they're dead and out the picture then try to bring some new thinking along

Absolutely this, if Trump gets in he won’t want to leave. If he doesn’t get in he’ll say they cheated & stole the election again.
It’s sounds crazy but this could be the end of democracy in America.

CreateHope · 16/01/2024 11:03

SitByTheLake · 16/01/2024 09:45

Apparently, if Trump wins the election, there is nothing in the Constitution - at the moment - that could stop him being President even if he is in jail. Also he could pardon himself of all charges!

There are some charges he couldn’t pardon himself from but I can’t remember what they are! I’ll see if I can find it!

Is that still the case if the candidate is serving a prison sentence?

Yes. Although in reality the need for a functioning President would probably override any prison sentence and so the sentence would be set aside or put on hold.

luckylavender · 16/01/2024 10:57

“Followers” is right. Trump doesn’t have voters. He’s more like a cult leader.

You've got to be joking right?

@IhateMIL you're right you can find this on Google. Filed alongside other conspiracy theories.

Isn’t he the only president that left office poorer than he went in? Also his foreign policy even the dems can’t argue was amazing the Abraham accords were a really big deal
