To ask if Donald Trump could actually be president again?

I've just seen a headline about him now being the front runner for the Republican nomination. Which I assume means it's entirely a possibility that he could then win.

I'm British (English) so I know our current government is a complete embarrassment. But I will never get my head around DT having been president once never mind possibly twice.

How could this happen??

I'm a decent person and I wish no harm to anyone but in his case I'll make an exception. Big heart attack in his sleep would make the world a much less toxic place.

Or Seal Team 6

I think it's extremely likely that he will be elected next president.

It's all part of the waning of the USA as a global power in my opinion. All 'empires' come to a natural end and those epochs of power are becoming shorter. Post ww2 the US has been the economic and 'democratic' powerhouse. That's changing and it's entering slow decline.

I also agree that younger mover and shakers in the US political system are waiting for the old guard to die. No point in them putting themselves forward. Political suicide if they did.

Such a good point. I’d like to see Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (Bronx congresswoman) be considered for a Democratic Party presidential candidate in future, providing she wants to go ahead with it of course.

@kikilaw asked with genuine interest, why would Russia not have invaded Ukraine if Trump had been president?

WhimsicalMoth · 16/01/2024 10:29

I personally am far more scared with Biden in power, than when trump ever was.
I found some of his comments and behaviours ludicrous. But I did find that most of his outrageous acts seemed to be whilst rallying to become president. It got his name and face everywhere. Exactly what he wanted.
He did not lead anybody to war though.
How much war have we faced since Biden???

keylemon · 16/01/2024 10:30

Wait a minute how many countries Trump invaded? At the moment it seems that even Maduro wants to start a war against Guyana. They all see the much weaker US under Biden to crack on.

Teddleshon · 16/01/2024 10:31

He will be President and imo the Democrats and the US mainstream media have only themselves to blame.

It's more than he took the opportunity because he knew he could get away with it under biden.

Biden made such a mess of withdrawing his troops and leaving them all behind, he made himself a laughing stock. Why should anyone respect or fear him?

Putin and trump had mutual respect and there was at least enough fear of retaliation for him not to risk trying it.

tinkertee · 16/01/2024 10:32

@Golden407 the Wikipedia page on his racial views absolutely lists examples that happened during his campaign and his presidency.

Multiple reasons
Because for the Democrats to win they need alot of centrists which the Democrats are largely made up of, the perception in the news of the Democratic party is made up of seeing the extreme left and celebrities, which in this Social media world is so prevalent and will annoy centrists

Republicans means less tax which means more money to the individual

The open borders which is a massive failure especially now as its a major issue in democratic cities, which even they are struggling to justify, its irrational how the Democrats have largely just abandoned their borders

There are alot of conservatives in America regardless of race, i think people see the " deep south" as these white conservatives places but there are significant amount of other races who live there who also hold conservatives views.

Exactly, I know people who live legally in both sides of the border and this massive migration that Biden has allowed creates big problems on both sides of the borders.

Even immigrants in USA don't want this massive Asylum/illegal Immigration and only for that reason will vote Republican.

It's a shame that the Democrats haven't raised another good candidate, they have had a lot of time. Also, Kamala hasn't proven to be popular or step up to cover for Biden. If it's Trump vs Biden, Trump will win easily.

SOBplus · 16/01/2024 10:35
  1. Democrats, like in the mid-term elections, registered as republicans to put the worst possible candidate up against the democrats for the real elections.
  2. Biden is a figure head only and "run" by the democratic party - told what to do and what to say which is why he is being run again - exactly like Diane Feinstein who admitted to not knowing what she was doing and voting as instructed by the party.
  3. Kamala was a mistake they are looking to rectify one proposal was get Kamala's resignation, Biden resigns and Nancy Pelosi takes over. When that didn't happen she retired and now given Biden's situation is why she is running again.
  4. Donald Trump was a highly effective president but now needs to move aside due to his personal life (IMHO) but Nikki Haley and Mike Pence is a Republican dream team (IMHO).

And who are you @Doteycat to disrespect someone else's beliefs and views? It's honestly disgusting.

keylemon · 16/01/2024 10:35

Trump was in power for four years. Why didn’t he change the constitution when he could? After all that is what dictators like Chavez did?

Obama?

I don't think Russia would have invaded Ukraine if Trump had been president.

I am not a supporter of Trump either.

Biden made it clear pre invasion, that the USA wouldn't get involved.

You are assuming Trump (who has said he would leave NATO and then not defend Europe) would have said something different.

Trump cannot be re-elected for a 3rd term, therefore he can go full Trump and do the things he didn't last time round due to not wanting to piss off the voters.

Trump is mad, he now has an ad going where he claims "God made Trump.."

But the US will vote him back in unless the democrats ditch Biden asap, as the choice many Americans see is Trump vs Someone who has dementia (not true but thats how Trump has portrayed Biden)

Any convictions will be over ruled by the Supreme court, who Trump packed with his own sort of people.

I really wish that someone like Anthony Blinken was in the running. The current situation is very bleak.

DH is that you ?
He has wondered that aloud while watching the news.

Pete Buttigieg seems decent but what chance does an openly gay politician have in the US.

WantNewMakeup · 16/01/2024 10:40

Biden is extremely weak, and under him, the world’s biggest nutters have kicked off.

Trump, the misogynist, the tyrant, the underhand, ruthless bastard, is a business man, and kept a lid on things.

Trump could get into power and broker peace between Putin and the Ukraine. Imagine if Trump got the Israelis and Palestinians to talk, and cease killing each other.

It’s not pie in the sky. He’s the only person with the audacity to do it. To rock up, shake hands and talk. Because he’s not a politician.

Sure, what a tosser the bloke is, and how he’d do some unpalatable things. However, if you want peace, it’s only going to come via unconventional means, not the same old failures we keep repeating.

Edited

Because that's not how it works.

From Whitehouse.gov An amendment may be proposed by a two-thirds vote of both Houses of Congress, or, if two-thirds of the States request one, by a convention called for that purpose. The amendment must then be ratified by three-fourths of the State legislatures, or three-fourths of conventions called in each State for ratification.

The Constitution | The White House

Why a Constitution? The need for the Constitution grew out of problems with the Articles of Confederation, which established a “firm league of friendship” between the States, and vested most power in a Congress of the Confederation. This power was, how...

Unless he's actually in prison at the time, I expect he will, yes.

My main fear is he'll try to change the two term limit. People will say no he won't but I think he'll try. He'll claim he's owed extra because of that stolen election he claims happened 🙄 and all sorts of conspiracy theory shit like that. He's got a massive following of idiots and conspiracy theory nutters. Stupid people + guns = danger.

He idolises dictators and he'll try his best to become one. He's extremely unlikely to succeed but that won't stop him trying. He'll try to use the military to achieve that.

Come back to this thread in a few years and we'll see if I was right.

I agree - I think he will try to change the term limits and will base his claim on something like he hasn’t had two consecutive terms so should be allowed to serve two consecutive terms. He will also point to the fact that presidential term limits are relatively recent (1950s) and that Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life. He’s a monster but Biden is just too old.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 16/01/2024 10:44

He will win. Biden is a joke atm. Sad to say.

AOC also doesn't know what a woman is and has used the term 'people who menstruate'.
