To vaccinate newborn or not

confusedaboutclothes · 10/01/2024 10:37

I know this is a very sensitive subject, but i’m asking please for FACTS only - I don’t want answers like ‘because the NHS recommends you to vaccinate your baby etc’

Id like to point out i’m not ‘anti vax’ as such, but covid really opened my eyes to researching vaccines etc i’ve done my own research on whether i should be vaccinating my newborn but it’s hard to find unbiased facts.

What I don’t like, is the pressure that is put on us to do as we’re told with our babies. I don’t like the constant reminders, the phone calls and the pressure to vaccinate - it all feels like a box ticking exercise not because the NHS are actually worried about my baby.

Please be kind, I really am confused about this and would love some different perspectives

Hi OP! No idea if I’m replying in time or not but I cannot reccomend “just the inserts” instagram page and Candace Owens series called A Shot In The Dark, everything is totally fact checked and every episode is incredibly eye opening (and shocking!). I paid a months sub to watch the entire series on The Daily Wire, it’s 100% worth the money but if not, you can watch three free episodes on YouTube ☺️

meditrina · 19/03/2024 09:27

I don't think Candace Owens can be described as neutral on any question relating to any vaccination

I’m not gonna be kind, what kind of daft person doesn’t want to protect her innocent helpless child because she doesn’t like being told what to do…

This is how conspiracy theories work, they make you think there's secret information that only a limited group of people can access - makes you feel important and special and makes life more exciting.

Then someone like Candace Owens comes along to monetise the gormless fools who fall for it - pay me money and I'll give you secret information they don't want you to have.

Fact checked? It's been confirmed widely that she has spread false information. Dangerous information.

As an example of how manipulative she is, check out this link: www.factcheck.org/2021/08/scicheck-cdc-document-discusses-strategy-to-protect-displaced-people-from-covid-19/

The US government considered using a shielding strategy that was very clear in its methodology. That people already living in humanitarian settings (like camps for displaced people) would be separated from the main population of those camps if they had covid, to prevent further spreading within that setting. Candace tweeted that the US government were planning to put high risk American civilians into camps and likened it to Nazi Germany. She repeated this over and over despite it not being the case.

She's vile. And she preys upon people who believe her when she says her claims are fact checked, people who don't then investigate her claims further and just take her word for it.

You paid money to listen to someone lie.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 19/03/2024 10:22

I don't understand why antivaxxers push their stance on everyone. By not vaccinating their children, they are relying solely on herd Immunity. Surely they should be encouraging everyone around them to get vaccinated so they can have the benefit without actually vaccinating their own children?

crunchermuncher · 19/03/2024 11:37

Anti vaxx is a luxury Western idea.

I bet if you went to a country without good medical care , where kids routinely die from childhood diseases, and free vaccinations were offered, you wouldn't get many parents turning it down.

bew96 · 19/03/2024 12:28

@NoCloudsAllowed - She isn’t sharing “secret information” that only “gormless fools” and “conspiracy theorists” pay for, she’s done extensive research (something that I and many other parents don’t have the time to do), compiled it altogether and is now sharing it with us “gormless fools” that are actually bothering to do our own research & educate ourselves on something incredibly important instead of just believing what we’re told is the “right thing to do”. What’s the difference between subscribing to Netflix to watch something you’re interested in vs subscribing to The Daily Wire to do the same? I would rather do my own research & ask questions when it comes to something as serious as my baby being injected instead of going into it blind, especially when every vaccine comes with a list of possible side effects & risks (all that can be found online by the way, for free). I would also just like to point out that my original comment was 100% judgement free, no mention of having an issue with parents that choose to vaccinate their children but yet here you are name calling & being judgemental.. yet us “conspiracy theorists, gormless fools” are the problem? Strange.

@whatsitcalledwhen - Confirmed by who? The news who control the narrative & print headlines that they know will get a reaction, or? To be fair, I didn’t state this in my original post but like OP, I’m not necessarily on about the Covid situation or vaccine, I’m on about the vaccine programme we’re expected to follow with our babies as I assumed that’s what OP was asking about. I am incredibly confident that I did not pay to listen to someone lie but thank you for your reply & for not being judgemental. I’ll check out that link regardless 😊

@IAmAnIdiot123 - I know you didn’t direct this at me but I would just like to say, it’s not just some anti vaxxers that try to push their stance on parents that choose to vaccinate, it definitely goes the other way too, you can’t deny that. Both sides can be childish enough to name call, both sides can be silly enough to not do their own proper research but what it comes down to is parents who adore their children simply making what they believe is the best decision for their child and that’s totally fair. Each to their own 100% but we shouldn’t be judging one another either way.

Well firstly I won't decide on medical issues based on what I've seen on netflix

whatsitcalledwhen · 19/03/2024 12:53

Thanks @bew96 I would be interested in your thoughts once you've visited the link. I'd like to know if once you read it you can see that she absolutely lied in that example I shared?

"that are actually bothering to do our own research "

Oh, of course, the special ones are the only ones who bother to do their own research. On You Tube. What about the rest of us who rely only on peer reviewed published articles and papers. Are we not doing our resurch correctly?

drspouse · 19/03/2024 13:03

Research is what happens in labs and is funded by medical research councils which all of us pay for, and is only allocated to scientists who have years and years of experience in the field, and who only get to publish when their work has been thoroughly peer reviewed.
Research is not trawling through conspiracy websites.

@bew96 I suggest using the Fact Check search and look for articles about Candace Owens.

Lilyappleorchard · 19/03/2024 13:09

Hi

I posted it with original post but as people may not be reading all posts.

the oxford vaccine knowledge project website is a good source for independent, evidenced based information on vaccines. Definitely worth looking at if you want extra information.

That's an excellent idea. She comes up 91 times.

It's impressive that she gets people to pay for access when there's so much similar misinformation available online for free.

Dogscanteatonions · 19/03/2024 14:34

Well I suppose an alternative to vaccinating would be to have lots of babies like they did in years gone by to ensure at least some made it to adulthood

So there is that OP

ToWhitToWhoo · 19/03/2024 16:09

Candace Owens is not a human being; she is a poisonous snake. Actually, that's unfair to poisonous snakes.

ToWhitToWhoo · 19/03/2024 16:18

I suggest that you visit an old graveyard and look at all the tombstones to young children from the 19th and early 20th centuries. While antibiotics and other products of modern medical science play their part, vaccination and sanitation are the two biggest reasons why there are far fewer such tombstones nowadays.

A book that I strongly recommend is Perri Klass: The Best Medicine: How Science and Public Health Gave Children a Future; Norton, 2020.

You do your own research? That's fantastic!

Where did you get your PhD from?
Where is your lab?
How many scientists do you work with?

oh sorry, I get it. You mean that you watch nonsense videos on YouTube.........................

Levisticum · 19/03/2024 17:11

I’m 62, so I was born before the measles vaccine became available in the UK and at a time when there was a shortage of the polio vaccine, for example. When I was a child, there was another girl on our small street in London who was permanently disabled and had to wear a metal leg brace because she’d had polio. My brother caught measles when he was 2 and emerged from the infection with chronic asthma, hay fever, eczema and a weakened heart. He passed the measles onto me, aged 1, and apparently I nearly died. This was all on one ordinary small street with around 12 children living on it, pre-vaccines. People have forgotten what life was like pre-vaccine and it gives them a false sense of security. Vaccinate your children, people!

That’s great you’ve done your research. Would you mind sharing your literature review here so we can all benefit?
Or haven’t you done one? Do you even know what one is, why they are important?
