Ours is a on fire at the moment. Usually it's just dog poo and why is the helicopter out, and tourists parking in the pub car park to go for a walk and getting a ticket..

However in the last week or so it has popped off and I'm living for the drama 🤣 it's not even the local community groups,

It's beef between 2 niche (very niche) hobby pages where one is saying x will happen and the other is saying y will happen, then page 1 started posting passive aggressive comments on the page of page 2 and frankly it's incredible.

Any one else got something fun going on, on their Facebook groups?

Local children’s party entertainers having it out all over fb. Apparently, someone started rumours that one of the business vans with various mascot faces (CBeebies faves etc) tried to lure kids in his van. Police and slander were mentioned 🫣

BotterMon · 08/01/2024 22:41

Someone's asked how much earlier she needs to leave in the morning to do the school run due to the snow, ice and 3 way traffic lights. Suggestions of how she can miss the lights by taking narrow country lanes which are impassable unless you have a 4x4 and even then can be dicey. Then the people who live in those lanes pile in to say that they don't want to be used as a rat run and so on.

What nobody said was depends how long your journey is as to how much more time you need to travel to school. Surprisingly no-one suggesting schools may close for the inch of snow that has fallen.

kpfragglesrock · 08/01/2024 22:43

Someone has drawn around the potholes 😂

Left · 08/01/2024 22:46

Lost items, job wanted, random tradesperson needed, offer at the kebab shop, free stuff being given away. No cat posts lately, or dog poo (but maybe the flooding has temporarily cleaned this up).

Pothole warnings, posts promoting the new local Pothole Facebook group, a pothole Scrooge saying there’s no point reporting potholes as there is no budget to fix them (we just have to learn to live with pot-holed roads, people who’ve ripped their tyres on potholes.

3smallpups · 08/01/2024 22:48

We had a really exciting spell when a roundabout was replaced by a new junction and traffic lights . Fair play it was a stupid amount of money and caused more problems than it solved but oh my the drama. The roundabout even had its own Facebook group established

wronginalltherightways · 08/01/2024 22:52

Missing package posts

Missing cat/dog posts

Whose cat is this? posts

Flooding posts, and ensuing arguments about whether or not these are 'record' floods for the areas in question

'IS the bridge open or closed?' due to floods posts

Potholes

The behaviour of secondary students cycling to/from school most days (blocking the roads, darting in front of cars, not wearing helmets, no lights, being rude to drivers, etc)

Traffic cone status on new local roads

The state of the telephone box book libraries, a regular hot discussion

Loving all the easily identifiable bin posts from a certain Wiltshire town!..... To be fair the new blue recycling bag is crap though!

😂 😂 I don't mind the new blue bag tbf, but it's plenty big enough for us, didn't blow off in the wind and was collected when it should have been 😉

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 08/01/2024 22:56

4 things right now

  1. The snow and ice . When are the local commune clearing the roads (it’s been 8 days. They are not, and the roads are clear, pavements a bit dicey but no one’s coming to sort it 😂)
  2. lost and found gloves (mainly found, fucking hundreds of them. Mainly along the lines of “Glove found on X. Tell me the make and colour and you can have it back)
  3. Roadworks. “When will they be finished, it’s absolutely awful how long they’re going on. Commune must do something asap (they’ve been going on for 2y and it was always stated would take 5y. It will now only take 3. They’re way infront of the schedule. But this is on every sign near every site)
  4. The coronation. I live in Denmark. Our queen abdicates on Sunday and the Prince royal takes over. There is no formal coronation for this like there was for King Charles, no parade, nothing like that. Yet every fucking day there is at least 3 posts of “when will the queen be passing through Østerbro (she won’t. Even if there was a parade we’re nowhere near the fucking palace). “When will the king pass through Østerbro? (Again. He won’t). “Should we hold a parade in their honour?” (No. That’s not quite how it works)

The local Church has a vacancy for a vicar (true).
A woman keeps posting that she is going to be the new vicar. Several helpful people have posted to point out the qualifications needed in order to be a vicar and the process to follow to apply for the vacancy. Others have posted to ridicule her.
Woman also regularly posts a picture of the curate “who looks a lovely lady” and asks if this is the new vicar. Others reply, explaining who the curate is.
Someone has asked her to stop repeating herself.
It’s a bit bonkers.

🤣🤣😂

Cleanbedsheets · 08/01/2024 22:59

Residents complaining about the lack of public bins.

2 spaniels seen running down the road

And queries on what bins are due out

Jaq27 · 08/01/2024 23:02
  • Why is the police helicopter up/what’s all the sirens? followed by ‘why are you so nosey?’ comments
  • ’the traffic lights are out of sync again at the crossroads’ people excitedly begin ‘there’s going to be an accident’ chat
  • lost cat - no it isn’t - yes it is - is this your cat x? - looks like the cat from x - cats protection league will help - catch it and take to vets - is it chipped?
  • Has anyone else’s lights flickered?
  • x advertises a work from home ‘business’ - y states it’s a pyramid scheme no salary, commission only scam - x says y is a stupid bitch who should keep her mouth shut until she knows the facts - y replies to every person who responds with ‘you won’t make any money’ - x gets sweary 🍿
  • my car was scratched in Sainsbury’s car park and did you see it happen?
  • my car got keyed on xxxx street - ‘well you shouldn’t take up residents parking spaces by the station’ - we hate commuters - you have ruined our town etc
It’s actually strangely comforting to read that most local FB whinges are the same…!
puncheur · 08/01/2024 23:04

Ours is literally just tradespeople and local businesses advertising. And announcements by the council. Even when something mildly contentious like a road closure or annual covid vaccines are announced no one ever comments, just gives likes. Sometimes there are heart likes.

I feel quite envious reading some of the ones here, we are obviously a very boring lot.

Sodullincomparison · 08/01/2024 23:04

@EvilElsa we just had a new alternative village page added due to censorship about a local pub. Who knew this was a common occurrence

Mumsfishnets · 08/01/2024 23:04

Fireworks

The abandoned car

Our lovely quiet village is getting very worked up about these topics.

Mostly it's lost cats and cows getting out.

Moaning5 · 08/01/2024 23:07

Who’s cat is this ?

Or

This is Tiddles - please refrain from feeding him, he has a home (angry face)

We’ve had a great one this week. An anonymous poster has started a bun fight over neighbourhood cats coming into their garden and killing an animal that they had befriended.

Much mystery around what sort of animal this was. Apparently the anonymous poster had taught it over 20 different commands.

it was like the usual MN thread around cats doing what cats do, versus cat lovers, who think that putting up a birdfeeder is asking for trouble, with random guesses around squirrels and wood pigeons and what could possibly be taught 20 different commands. And what these commands might be

I think we're in the same group 😂😂

We have A LOT of Evri complaints. People posting tiny slithers of people's front doors going "DOES ANYONE RECOGNISE THIS FRONT DOOR??????"

I'm always astounded by how rude people are to each other in local groups. I live in a mid size town, but nearly everyone knows each other or has some connection to each other, and the things people say! They could bump into each other in Aldi the next day???!!! I could never.

AlwaysGinPlease · 08/01/2024 23:11

Ours is

Dog poo , some with photos!
Parking
Bins
Lost cats 😢
Loose dogs owned by thick twats😢
Scrounging posts
Personal grievances, ongoing
The usual what time does x shop open/close

But also a very interesting one where a business has been targeted and let's just say the owner is a lying thieving crooked fucker and truly deserves the graffiti etc. I'm loving the saga!

movingtodevon1 · 08/01/2024 23:16

Pian

"😂 😂 I don't mind the new blue bag tbf, but it's plenty big enough for us, didn't blow off in the wind and was collected when it should have been 😉"

Nor mine.... it was wedged firmly between two black boxes full of Christmas empties.... that baby wasn't blowing off anywhere Blush

Sodullincomparison · 08/01/2024 23:16
  1. Fish and Chip vans visits
  2. why were there 100 tractors?
  3. why are there so many parked cars in the village? Because of the NYD hunt
  4. why farmers have been barred from the local pub
  5. a post about when to see the ISS - I only get this hours after
  6. there is a sheep/ horse/ deer loose

most discussion end up in who are these townies???

I live in the middle of three villages and have left one of their content out because it is only ever the councillor about roadworks and a lady about dog poo.

AllTheChaos · 08/01/2024 23:19

PissOffJeffrey · 08/01/2024 19:54

Roadworks, temporary traffic lights & HS2 usually.

There's also been a LOT of new builds in the area in the last couple of years, which have brought a lot of new residents to the area. We also get lots of "new to the village, where's the nearest Lebanese restaurant?" About 60 miles away probably. Always stuns me how little research people do before moving long distances.

Oh that’s marvellous - please tell me they are suitably horrified and disbelieving when they discover that moving away from a big metropolis means - shock! horror! not having all the amenities thereof?!

LadyWiddiothethird · 08/01/2024 23:22

This tickled me today.

Admin notice* - admin suggest this guy also does a monthly shop at a convenient time to suit others maybe 10pm when my nan's asleep & makes a packed lunch, to prevent him causing queues & traffic when my nan is trying to shop in the day.
Good morning all, I have been wondering why unemployed and old people are shopping in supermarkets just before the workers start work and also during lunch time? Could you not do this any other part of the day since you have nothing else to do....us hard workers have to earn the cash that pays your benefits....maybe you could be more considerate and avoid mornings and lunchtimes....nothing worse than popping out for a quick bite to eat and having to wait ages for inconsiderate people doing the monthly shop ...huge queues when all I want is a quick sausage roll or sandwich please be more mindful

ManateeFair · 08/01/2024 23:24

Huge row going in ours right now which started with people moaning about people parking their cars in the street to visit the park (which they are perfectly entitled to do, incidentally; there are no parking restrictions and it’s a massive park that people travel quite a way to visit) but has somehow now developed into a heated argument about squirrels.

Wednesday6 · 08/01/2024 23:35

How the new cafe has an ugly sign and others defending saying we're ungrateful and should be thankful that it opened up

RobertaFirmino · 08/01/2024 23:45

The new broadband companies in the city destroying the grass verges, blocking pavements and installing poles.

thedementedelf · 08/01/2024 23:48

Dog poo/road closures/fireworks.

The usual stuff.
