Ours is a on fire at the moment. Usually it's just dog poo and why is the helicopter out, and tourists parking in the pub car park to go for a walk and getting a ticket..

However in the last week or so it has popped off and I'm living for the drama 🤣 it's not even the local community groups,

It's beef between 2 niche (very niche) hobby pages where one is saying x will happen and the other is saying y will happen, then page 1 started posting passive aggressive comments on the page of page 2 and frankly it's incredible.

Any one else got something fun going on, on their Facebook groups?

We had one about Amazon boxes. One old lady said she had loads of them and wondered if anyone wanted them for anything.

She got a LOT of abuse about how she had ordered from Amazon. She was an old lady who was barely mobile! She was trying to defend herself saying she could only get certain items from there including personal care items. There were rich young men in their 30s/40s telling her she should get some public transport and do the rounds of farmers markets and shop there instead. So privileged and tone deaf.

Ugh!

She did have lots of support though.

And no I don’t love Amazon but it does benefit those who would really struggle without.

A couple weeks ago though, Sammy was ranting at the whole town because someone needed to tell Gemma (presumably his ex, wisely so) that she needed to make sure she was home all day to sign for Jake and Elsie’s Christmas presents that he posted because it was the third and last day that the delivery was going to be attempted.

And if Gemma wasn’t home it wasn’t going to be his fault that his kids never got any Christmas presents (I mean, obviously it would be his fault). Sammy didn’t know why Gemma was never home and she’d (sensibly) blocked him, so he couldn’t message her to tell her she better be home to sign for the kids’ presents. But someone must know her and be able to get a message to her. 😂

We also get a lot of updates on John, who runs the annual coffee morning’s, recent operation and discharge from hospital.

Lelophants · 08/01/2024 21:49

Normally it’s “IS THIS YOUR SCHOOLCHILD? HE/SHE WAS INCREDIBLY RUDE ON THEIR WALK HOME THIS AFTERNOON”

Flollowed by some grainy photo of ‘youths.

Comments are split between one side of “kids these days! Parentsthese days!” and another side of “howdareyouphotograph children”

But it’s been quiet lately.

Our local groups have an outbreak of "fake" councillors. Basically the candidates from the opposition parties who regularly appear on the local election ballot papers have a new tactic. They respond to people's complaints by saying "I've reported that" and ring the same number any other resident could have done. They also post pictures of themselves out litter picking or pointing at graffiti or fly tipping that they've reported. Many residents honestly believe they're our local councillors, despite our actual local councillors being active on the pages too.

BreakingAndBroke · 08/01/2024 21:50

Dog poo, air ambulance and "there was a van driving around, and a man got out and walked past my window, here's a picture. Police are aware"

DeadButDelicious · 08/01/2024 21:51

The main one was LTN's for aaaaaaages. We had planters put in to stop the local area being used as a rat run, personally I liked them, the streets were much safer, less traffic noise etc a very vocal group on the local Facebook page however were positively apoplectic about it. It was endless posts about the planters, how their freedom was being curtailed by the council, whinging about the plants in the planters (not aesthetically pleasing enough) on and on and on. It hasn't stopped since they've been removed either, now it's conspiracy theories about speed bumps. We had bin strikes before Christmas, very annoying for obvious reasons, so the posts about speed bumps were interspersed with poorly photoshopped piles of bin bags in the shape of Christmas trees on the town hall steps. Never a dull moment! 😂😂

OppsUpsSide · 08/01/2024 21:52

The scouts didn’t collect all the Christmas trees and someone may or may not have made a politically incorrect joke. Hard to tell as the joke has been removed but the argument remains.

DustyLee123 · 08/01/2024 21:52

We did once have a photo of a man walking in a field with a gun, reported to police. Of course it was just a farmer, but other than that ours is boring.

doodoodahdah · 08/01/2024 21:52

Ours is parking and fireworks. Lots and lots of moaning about fireworks - stress about when they might go off (out of season), how long they go on for, how dare people celebrate festivals, special occasions etc. Also, a seasonal favourite is christmas lights

PuppyMonkey · 08/01/2024 21:53

Ours has been quite funny recently, mostly because people over Christmas have often posted asking if the jacket potato van will be in its usual spot (outside B&M) - round here that is usually written: “Anyone no if tater man is on today?” This has morphed into people asking lots of similar “anyone no if Tesco is open?” “Anyone no if buses are running?” “Anyone no when schools are back?” And everyone jumps on to slag them off for not googling, but then someone will always post “is tater man on” somewhere in the thread.

Well it’s amusing me, anyway.Grin

Annoying people parking in the passing spaces on narrow rural roads and causing havoc as cars cannot pass.
Cyclists riding 2 abreast on narrow rural roads and not pulling over for miles with a queue of cars stuck behind them.

Tryingmybestadhd · 08/01/2024 21:54

Mine is forever having “ sheep loose on the road “ then someone will find it funny while the poor sod who almost run the sheep 🐑 over is not . We also have loose cows 😂. No need to say I live rurally

Wouldyoubeoffendedbythisreview · 08/01/2024 21:54

My neibhour across the roads tortoise escaped again ( it escapes at least twice a year ) and they are trying to find it again Grin

Emmelina · 08/01/2024 21:56

A local woman known to have had her kids taken off her due to drugs won a big wedge of cash on a scratch card. Oooh the locals are ALL over that.

and a local bakery shut down suddenly and now there are all these stories in the comments about allergies and the owner being up in court for fraud and all sorts.

Moaning5 · 08/01/2024 21:57

Dog Pooh by the Pooh bin - everyone verbalising their disgust (slightly posh estate), but now someone has suggested a fox might be the culprit and it’s really taken the wind out of it 😂

Also, bin collection dates - new BinFluencers are emerging with factual updates spoiling all the guesswork.

Otters. They are obsessed about the otters.

Moier · 08/01/2024 21:57

Loads of cats going missing..
Then an argument about a resident cat at Morrisons supermarket.. some saying it's being neglected... some saying it gets fed and shelters in the trolley shelter.

ItsTheDramaaMick · 08/01/2024 21:58

Last year we had 'gypsies on the car park at the library' and a massive post about how disgusting it was, then it turned out it was the mobile mammogram unit 🤣

The floods.
Is the road open ? (No)
How many people have driven down the closed road and got stuck in the flood.
Is the big supermarket open? (No). It’s flooded.
The potholes.
When is the council going to dredge the river?
Lost cats and dogs.

Caffeineislife · 08/01/2024 21:59

Just checked our local one again. If you get passed all the flood comments and road open comments there is some comedy gold. It's great fun our local FB page.

There is a poll for road with the most craters. You can vote for any of the major routes into town. Every councillor and MP in the area is tagged in it. All the comments are what are you going to do about it labour/conservative/independent councillor? Where is our MP? Why isn't he out filling potholes? Tbh our roads have more craters than the moon and are in an awful state. There is a lot of damage happening to cars as they are so deep.

Constant tagging of MP and councillors about the flooded road and why non of them are out with buckets or stood near the road so concerned residents can speak to someone. Why hasn't the councillors or local MP used their devine power to get rid of the flood water? Why is no-one doing anything? I'm pretty sure flooding is an act of god and outside the realm of councillors and government.

The owners of XL Bully witch hunt has begun. Photos uploaded of people with dogs off lead in the park with "WHO IS THIS? THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW, THAT DOG MUST BE MUZZLED AND ON A LEAD. I AM REPORTING YOU TO THE POLICE AND DOG WARDEN. I HAVE MORE PHOTOS!!!111". The XL Bully apologists are out in full force and so are the frothers. Tbh I'm slightly gutted that flooding has taken over this post is pure drama, with others also joining in with other people they have spotted breaking the law.

Oh and the people who have bought new builds witch hunt continues. They are entirely blamed for the floods and have destroyed the town. The road is on a flood plain. It has flooded every year with the high spring tides. The fields flood every year Nov-March if we get heavy rainfall.

Lots of posting"I'm new to the area, can anyone recommend hairdressers/lashes/ nails/ childcare/ dog walker/ builders ect". With lots of sarcastic replies from the vocal regular posters who create 99% of the drama. One poster was asking for child care and she was getting Prince Andrew is an option and replies along that line. We've had 4 massive new build estates built and the absolutely vitorol is insane aimed to anyone who posts they live on there or are moving onto one of them is insane.

bendypines · 08/01/2024 22:02

Planning permission for yet another new housing estate on flood plain. There's a campaign by locals to put up as many objections as possible, considerably helped by all the photos of the land in question being completely under water for the last few days!
