Attention seeking woman at work driving me insane

Name changed as outing to anyone that works with her!

She’s driving me insane, seriously - to the point where I have urges to shout at her or literally walk out. Shes so loud, constantly shouting and screaming. She’ll literally scream all of a sudden, waits for everyone to ask what’s wrong and then will say “I’m just so bored!” Or “I’ve just remembered it’s pizza for tea!” Or some other stupid shit.

She’ll randomly throw her papers up in the air and say “it’s stressing me out!” And everyone laughs. What exactly is funny about that?? Maybe the first time I’d laugh but when it’s a weekly thing - not so much

On Friday she suddenly slammed her laptop shut and screamed. Of course everyone was like “what?? What??” And she’s sat there lapping up the attention before declaring “I’ve just seen that my favourite band are touring”. Everyone laughed and said “Jesus I thought it was something serious”. It’s never serious, it’s always something stupid.

She’ll get up and suddenly start dancing - even getting up on the tables etc. at Christmas she brought in a load of those dancing snowmen/santas/clapping monkeys etc, set them up all around the office and turned them all on together. The voice was unbearable. The manager made her get rid of them in the end so she screamed and pretended to cry.

The woman infuriates me. I don’t even know why she annoys me so much. I seem to be the only one not laughing! Before anyone says I’m jealous, trust me - I’m the most introverted person ever, the last thing I want is to be centre of attention

She’s actually making me consider changing my job. I can’t stand it. I’m literally dreading going in tomorrow.

Keep a diary - date, time, details of actions.
never react to her - shes like a chikd seeking attention through increasingly poor behaviour so choose to ignore. Only interact with her when she is courteous and polite.

If others in the office will do likewise - great.

When you have enough evidence go & present it to HR & ask for action to stop her negatively impacting your work environment.

OhwhyOY · 07/01/2024 21:05

Speak to her manager and say you and others are finding her behaviour disturbing and unprofessional. Say its genuinely maling you want to look for another job.

This would drive me mad, I'd have to tell her to be quiet (or something less polite...).

TheCadoganArms · 07/01/2024 21:05

I think headphones is a good option. If anyone asks why you are wearing them just flat out tell them it's the only way you can concentrate while little miss drama queen is on parade.

I’m a giddy, excitable person, tend to be over enthusiastic, get excited about things at work that no one else would and I make a really big effort to tone myself down, especially at work. I appreciate I must be annoying and too much to deal with, I even annoy myself sometimes!

However, screaming, shouting and drawing attention to yourself like that is on another level. Management need to be talking to her about appropriate behaviour at work. It’s very selfish of her.

HRTQueen · 07/01/2024 21:06

You don’t know why she annoys you so much

Just reading about her antics has irritated me

she is annoying you op because she is a self absorbed childish twat

we have ms a member of our team like this thankfully I only have to suffer her nonsense in team meetings (which of course she takes over) also nhs

LightSpeeds · 07/01/2024 21:06

Put some Valium in her tea

Falkenburg · 07/01/2024 21:08

Laxative in her coffee. She'll be too embarrassed to return.

No, someone asked her to quieten down once and stop screaming as they had a migraine, she ran over and started massaging their head and wrapping stuff around them etc, they walked out in the end! It was a bloke and I suspect her walked out before he lost it with her

This woman is clearly a lunatic and must be stopped.

user1492757084 · 07/01/2024 21:09

Her manager has to keep advising her to tone it down.

How did she make it past her three months probation?

Also if all of you always ignore the dramatics and then one of you asks her politely to please be less disruptive.
Persistance and consistency might prevail.

Teddleshon · 07/01/2024 21:09

My goodness, I wouldn’t last five minutes in the same room with someone like that. Can’t bear attention seekers but this is a whole new level.

CHEESEY13 · 07/01/2024 21:09

Her line manager needs to issue a written warning over her behaviour, furthermore if she insists on manhandling colleagues who point out that she's given them a migraine she might find herself on the sharp end of an allegation of assault.
Mauling your co-workers (plus all the other stuff she indulges in) is very unproffessional.

Topee · 07/01/2024 21:09

You shouldn’t have to wear headphones, management should be dealing with the issue.

VivX · 07/01/2024 21:10

That sounds very annoying. I'd not pander to the attention-seeking behaviour at all.

Are noise-cancelling headphones an option?

Falkenburg · 07/01/2024 21:11

Sign her up for lots of job opportunities.

beatrix1234 · 07/01/2024 21:11

This is no life. You need to put together some coworkers suffering in silence like you, maybe record her screams, shouting and other loud nuissances with the iphone. Once you gathered a small group you guys go to the manager/boss/HR and have a quiet word and let them know this is not only innapropiate but it’s interfiering with your work, concentration etc…

The “bullying” she suffered in her old job? Nah her colleagues were trying to protect themselves , she’s the bully.

shoesday · 07/01/2024 21:11

Do the same one day and she'll see how stupid she is

Nanny0gg · 07/01/2024 21:12

What would actually happen if you told her to pack it in?

Renamed · 07/01/2024 21:12

Do you have regular supervision? This would be where her manager should raise her behaviour, possibly along the lines of she seems to hate working there as she is always causing disruption, is anything wrong? Then if she says she is just Having a Laff they can tell her to keep it for the pub.

Are you neurodiverse?

If so then fair enough but if not then it really shouldn't take a big effort to remain calm in the workplace.

Dandelones · 07/01/2024 21:13

Oh dear - she sounds like a female version of Colin from the Fast Show

Kwam31 · 07/01/2024 21:14

Everyone should wear big headphones and let her wonder why

Gloc · 07/01/2024 21:14

Thing is I’ve only brought it up to the others once and I very much got the impression that the situation was best left alone. Something has obviously gone down in her last job. Manager seems reluctant to get involved other than peering out of her office periodically and telling “everyone” to keep the noise down.

Shes so much worse on a weekend when its skeleton staff and no manager

She sounds like Colin on Amphetamines

Toddlerteaplease · 07/01/2024 21:15

Definitely justifiable homicide OP.

Buffypaws · 07/01/2024 21:15

She sounds hilarious. Get the bbc in to do a fly on the wall documentary with her as the David Brent equivalent star.
