Shit, I’ve just bought men’s shoes

Bought them online from a well-known department store with a very nice discount in the January sale. They’re Kurt Geiger, a brand I like, and I wanted them for work- always looking for a smart flat.

They arrived today and I tried them on. A little roomy but not bad.

Jusy tidying away and spotted they’re men’s shoes!
No wonder they were cheap- can’t imagine much demand for men’s size 6.

Pic is of the ad on the website. I obviously didn’t look too closely 👀

So keep (YANBU) or return (YABU)?

I have smallish feet. I occasionally buy from the kids’ section. It doesn’t turn me into someone who likes skipping and playing the recorder badly.

Well that’s disappointing 😂

Guinness00 · 06/01/2024 08:02

I'm just jealous you're 5'11 and only wear a 6. I'm 5'8 and wear a true size 8 (EU42)!

StrangeNew · 06/01/2024 08:06

You’re so lucky, @WeekWeekWeek!

I so often prefer the men’s shoes on a website, but I’ve tried before and they’re just too wide for me. And though not tall, I do have short hair, so am wary of disproportionately masculine styles. But you’re tall, so they’ll be in proportion. You have found some stylish shoes that fit you. They happen to be labelled as men’s - but if they fit and look good - whats the problem?

Orangello · 06/01/2024 08:06

Men's version of the same item is often much better quality, you can find many comparison videos online. Men's running shoes are also usually wider, so most of my running shoes are from men's section. Quite silly, as my DH has much narrower feet than me.

KinS24 · 06/01/2024 08:09

With my size 8 feet I always buy men’s socks and sometimes men’s trainers. The shoes are fine.

BussInPoots · 05/01/2024 23:34

I’m going to sound really weird now, but I honestly dont think I realised there were separate men’s/women’s shoes until now 🙈!!)

I’ve always tended to wear DM’s or running shoes…. And just bought the colour / design I like.

Need more on this,@BussInPoots - it’s hard to fathom …

AtomicBlondeRose · 06/01/2024 08:15

I wanted black leather brogues and the cheapest ones ended up being boy’s school shoes. They’re also very comfortable!

ElleDeeCB · 06/01/2024 08:15

I’m a size 7 and often look in the men’s section for trainers as that’s where they will be in the sale! It’s always sold out in women’s shoes but less popular size for men.

ALunchbox · 06/01/2024 08:24

I have never looked at someone's shoes and thought, wow these are clearly not designed for their sex!
I wouldn't worry really.
I sometimes buy clothes from the men s section. It's comfy, less frilly and better quality normally!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/01/2024 08:27

Dont worry OP, if anyone notices they will just think you are right up there with the trendies, and your feet are non binary. Yeah!

Like lots of other PP, I wear men’s jumpers and Fleeces for preference : longer backs, thicker fabric and not pink. I’ve bought boys’ trainers ( small feet) for decades. I don’t think anyone notices, most people don’t actually care unless the wearer is trying to make some sort of dubious point.

Wictc · 06/01/2024 08:34

My brother has size 6 feet and often buys women’s shoes as there is more choice. He also wears women’s jumpers and cardigans. Hasn’t turned into a woman yet, so I think you’ll be ok!! My husband bought some lovely sandal type loafers, I wanted some but unfortunately they don’t seem to do men’s in a size 4!!

Errols · 06/01/2024 08:34

5'7" , EU43.

I've worn men's shoes my entire adult life, and I look fierce. (I also save a ton of money because men's shoes tend to be better made, and my feet are in good nick with 0 bunions, hammer toes etc.)

Wictc · 06/01/2024 08:35

i also but boys trainers. Cheaper and not pastel coloured!

ChintzyGunslinger · 06/01/2024 08:40

WeekWeekWeek · 05/01/2024 23:50

€135 down to €35!

Buy five pairs!

Seriously, if they are comfortable keep them. Men's clothing is usually better made and lasts longer. And if you like them, do get yourself a spare pair or two.

AyeRightYeAre · 06/01/2024 08:41

What's the issue?

SunflowerSeeds123 · 06/01/2024 08:41

I wore "mens" DMs in the 90s because they were wide enough for my dinner plate feet. I didn't change sex. I wear a lot of unisex things for work. Still not growing a willy. I've borrowed exDHs jumpers because they are more comfy than mine. No sign of that beard yet. I think you're safe

AffableApple · 06/01/2024 08:47

Without a cock, the shoes won't operate. You'll need to return them, I'm afraid.

WeekWeekWeek · 06/01/2024 08:50

Am I the only one who wouldn’t mind occasionally growing a cock on demand? Just to see what the fuss is about.

ThinWomansBrain · 05/01/2024 23:15

they might even be - shock horror - foot shaped🤔

Except men's feet are differently shaped on average than women's, so their shoes tend to be wider and don't give good support for most women. But it does sound like they're working out for OP. I'm actually envious 😉

elizzza · 06/01/2024 09:01

Are you 6 years old? No such thing as men’s and women’s clothing, wear what you want.

StrangeNew · 06/01/2024 09:08

elizzza · 06/01/2024 09:01

And thus a hundred thousand years of dressmaking and tailoring to fit is wiped out. Hmm

I don’t give a fig for ‘unisex’ clothing, @elizzza. I happily buy men’s knitwear, accessories, whatever, if I see something that works well - but on the whole I want underwear / shoes / clothing that fits my female body, not stuff designed to pretend I don’t physically exist.

yarnwitch · 06/01/2024 09:34

I have a pair of men's converse, which I bought for same reason - the size 7 men's were cheap on sale. No idea what makes them different to women's converse except the price!
I also wear men's jumpers as women's are generally too short in the arms and body. It really doesn't matter.

Snazzysausage · 06/01/2024 09:39

They look really nice, I'm another who doesn't think they look mannish. I highly doubt your feet will have an identity crisis while encased in them!

TempleOfBloom · 06/01/2024 09:45

I wear men’s walking boots as they have a broader fit in many models.

mottytotty · 06/01/2024 09:48

I think people are being very heavy weather about your obviously light hearted posts, OP 🤣

They’re great shoes!

My DH was given a free £50 voucher by Kurt Geiger, I used it to buy a pair of boots that were already in the sale, so paid £15, they’re so comfortable!

You got a real bargain!
