Vinted Annoyance- Favourites

BringMeSunshine48 · 05/01/2024 21:11

It really annoys me when I favourite an item on Vinted and the seller immediately messages me offering a discount or saying they can 'post tomorrow' etc. It gives off a desperate vibe. It the same when sales people in shops follow you around asking if you need help, when all you want to do is browse. I feel harassed and uncomfortable, which leads to me leaving said shop.
I instantly unfavourite the item on Vinted when I receive a begging message.
Thats it really!

You realise that sellers get a notification on their phone when you favourite things? It's annoying when you think someone might be interested and then they just sit on their hands for months, a bit like when you're selling on Facebook and someone asks if something is still available and you say yes, and then they don't respond further.

Ebay even encourages you to make an offer to interested parties.

Maybe vinted isn't for you?

PeeblesPobble · 05/01/2024 23:05

YAB totally U!

I mainly favourite things in the hope I'll get messaged a discount!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/01/2024 23:17

I love it, it means they are a committed seller and not the sort that keep you hanging around for ages then don't bother sending the item.

misssunshine4040 · 05/01/2024 23:18

A desperate vibe? They are not a retailer! I think it's fair to say people are selling items to raise cash and might be desperate for the money.

OakTreesAreTheBest · 05/01/2024 23:19

I'm not keen either if I'm honest - though I have sometimes responded with a question or offer so I can see why they do it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/01/2024 23:19

Begging message 🙄

FDFDF · 05/01/2024 23:22

I agree! I find it quite awkward as I then feel I have to respond to their message. It’s often kids clothes I have favourited and I have loads of ones the same favourited, so to be honest I’m not overly fussed which one I end up going for and it’s usually someone with a bundle of other items I’d want. As soon as I see one of these messages though, particularly saying they can post tomorrow, I find it really desperate!

Decimate · 05/01/2024 23:22

You can turn off the seller being notified in settings

FijiSea · 05/01/2024 23:22

I don’t mind sellers messaging me if I favorite something , usually they knock a pound off in the message offer too which encourages me to buy.
Im mostly selling right now though , January clear out is going well , one wardrobe cleared out ( kids shoes and coats ) and I’ve got £50 in my pending already since 2 Jan.

I don’t have many annoyances with Vinted at all tbh , love the app have used if for over 6 years.

Ostryga · 05/01/2024 23:24

Someone is offering you a discount and you’re upset about it 😂 honestly there really is no pleasing some people! My word

Shithole101 · 05/01/2024 23:24

I fravourate in the hope of being offered a discount

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 05/01/2024 23:31

Eh? Just ignore it then! Presumably you’ve favourited it because you like it and might be interested in buying it, and they’re just trying to encourage you to buy it because they’d like to sell it. Seems reasonable enough to me!

Orangejellybaby · 05/01/2024 23:41

You can change your profile settings so that sellers don't see your ID any time you favourite items if this bothers you. I've changed mine as I always felt pressured to buy if some was offering a discount.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/01/2024 01:58

I favourite just in case I'm offered a discount!

YungWarthog · 06/01/2024 02:14

Oh c’mon OP 🙄
It’s not a begging message. Quite easy to ignore too.
I like it when they offer a discount 🤷‍♀️

ActDottie · 06/01/2024 02:26

This annoys me too! I’m just favouriting it so I have it there to compare with other things not because I definitely want to buy it.

I did once take a someone up on their offer because they said they could send the next day…. They sent it three days later so it annoyed me a bit because I’d only got it because of quick arrival.

JMSA · 06/01/2024 02:34

Unfavouriting because they send you a 'begging' message Hmm

Gunpowder · 06/01/2024 04:01

Sending a message saying they’ll discount it or put it in the post that afternoon as they are going out = helpful and keen, sending a message saying ‘so are you going to buy my item?’ is annoying and I ignore it or unfavourite the item.

amylou8 · 06/01/2024 05:01

I don't like the whole offer culture on vinted. I'd rather just list it for what I want for it, take it or leave it, rather than have to list if for more because you know you'll be getting daft offers otherwise.

This.

katsusando · 06/01/2024 09:44

But sellers are there to sell things! Something being favourited is a sign of interest, so why shouldn't the seller acknowledge it? I love sellers who post the next day, so this is a huge plus, far more so than those who wait until the last possible moment to send.

As a seller, what really irritates me is when potential buyers ask me if an item will fit them. How the heck do I know?!

Also loathe those who make ridiculous price offers. If I wanted to sell the item for a 90% of its listed price, I would have priced it at that in the first place.

WessexWanderer · 06/01/2024 09:51

Vinted encourage you to message buyers who have favourited an item. They say it increases the chance of a sale.

So you're annoyed at people asking for 10% off? Seems quite reasonable to me, you don't have to say yes, and can ignore or counter offer, but it's hardly ridiculous.

BakedTattie · 06/01/2024 19:27

Disappointed as I never get this! I favourite things so I can see them again

Moier · 06/01/2024 19:27

I'm with you OP.. l agree with everything you say.. l buy and sell on there.. l never message anyone that has favoured any of my items.
Plus l don't get notifications on my phone like someone says. ( because I've disabled them) and l use my laptop not my phone.
