Vinted Annoyance- Favourites

BringMeSunshine48 · 05/01/2024 21:11

It really annoys me when I favourite an item on Vinted and the seller immediately messages me offering a discount or saying they can 'post tomorrow' etc. It gives off a desperate vibe. It the same when sales people in shops follow you around asking if you need help, when all you want to do is browse. I feel harassed and uncomfortable, which leads to me leaving said shop.
I instantly unfavourite the item on Vinted when I receive a begging message.
Thats it really!

You can turn off the seller being notified in settings

Can you really ?? This will change my life 🤣 I hate giving sellers false hope when I favourite an item. I usually favourite a lot, and choose between a few items, so just because I favourite doesn't mean I'm likely to buy necessarily

katsusando · 06/01/2024 19:56

@PeeblesPobble No, they want 90% off the price - e.g. a £100 item for £10. If I wanted to sell it for £10, I'd have listed it for £10.

usernother · 06/01/2024 20:09

I didn't know I was supposed to offer discounts when people favourite my items. I'm not going to do it.

PeeblesPobble · 06/01/2024 19:24

So you're annoyed at people asking for 10% off? Seems quite reasonable to me, you don't have to say yes, and can ignore or counter offer, but it's hardly ridiculous.

Seeing as Vinted encourage the buyer to offer 40% of the asking price then 10% off is perfectly reasonable especially as the buyer has to pay postage and insurance which really bumps it up.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/01/2024 20:45

Sorry, just realized you meant 90% off which is proper cheeky fuckery!

Beetlebumz · 06/01/2024 21:00

I hate it too op! It’s like leave me alone I might not want to buy it right now

cosypompoms · 06/01/2024 21:03

PeeblesPobble · 05/01/2024 23:05

YAB totally U!

I mainly favourite things in the hope I'll get messaged a discount!

Same here

RM2013 · 06/01/2024 21:05

It doesn’t bother me and I quite like to think I’m getting a discount. Sometimes I buy the item and sometimes I don’t

noooooooo · 06/01/2024 21:19

I’d rather a motivated seller who wants to get rid of the stuff. One I had recently was a bit perplexing, I made the seller an offer and they declined. I said ‘Hi, what’s your best price?’ and they said no offers. I’ve never sold on Vinted so I don’t know if the offer button is optional or not as it on eBay but if it’s not optional would it not make sense to say no offers in the description then, save people pestering you? (I was not looking for a major discount btw).

Livelovebehappy · 06/01/2024 21:32

I absolutely favourite items for this very reason! It’s no big deal someone offering you a discount. That’s all part of buying and selling, and just comes through via email. Just ignore the email. I want a Barbour jacket, and have favourited 18 since New Year, but unfortunately not one discount offer ☹️

You can't make an offer for less than 40%?

Any reason you're being such a pedant?

While it's true you can't make an offer for under x amount, people can still send a message asking if you'll consider a much lower amount.

Thanks for this, I never realised. I favourite dozens of things to consider so I've changed my settings now.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/01/2024 19:59

I tend to agree. I'll search for an item, favourite a few, then compare price, quality, of they're selling anything else I want and in that time I've had five messages offering to sell it for less, post in the next hour, notify they sell other things, etc. just like back off a bit please and give me space to look at it properly

Their 'best price' is the price they actually listed.

It's not optional. You can't turn the option of people making offers off. That still doesn't mean sellers have to specify that they will not accept less than the stated price. Some people who are open to offers state explicitly 'open to offers'.

noooooooo · 07/01/2024 21:13

@Precipice

I get that sellers don’t have to specify they won’t accept offers.

But since the expectation on Vinted is (as quoted on the thread above) that would-be buyers can and should make offers and are actively encouraged by the UI to do so, where’s the benefit to sellers who don’t want to receive any offers remaining silent about that? Not having to do something doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it, does it?

Inyourwildestdreams · 07/01/2024 21:24

Don’t favourite any of my items then 😂 I message people that have favourited stuff quite a lot 🙈😂

I usually wait until I have a fair bit of stuff then upload it all at once so often get a lot of sales within a couple of days and deal with all the postage etc at the same time. I don’t pester with discounts etc but will send a message if I get a favourited item if I’m posting soon along the lines of “Hello, just to let you know I’m shipping Evri & Yodel parcels late afternoon today incase you’re interested in the item 😊”. Often they'll make an offer or buy it soon after. It’s more convenient for me than going and posting a lot of stuff then them purchasing an hour after I get home and me having to go back out with it 🤷🏻‍♀️ and they get the item quicker if they want it!

purplehue · 07/01/2024 21:31

😂 I now do this as I got fed up of people favouriting items and not buying or even messaging.

GaroTheMushroom · 07/01/2024 21:32

I’ve turned mine off now, so much better!

Speedygonzales78 · 07/01/2024 21:33

It's called bartering, sellers want to get rid of things, why favourite an item if you are not particularly interested in selling it.
The most annoying thing on Vinted to me is the buyer who offered me a price, I accepted, she never paid, 2 weeks later she offered me an even lower price! I took it to a baby charity later that day.

mrstea301 · 07/01/2024 21:41

Quick side question - if you favourite something which then sells, do you remove your favourite? Or do you keep it so that they keep recommending similar items?

Coconutter24 · 07/01/2024 22:13

Can sellers turn the notifications off for favourited items or just buyers?

I hate when people favourite an item because you can list something and then get like 25 notifications all saying people have favourited your item. I don’t care that someone likes it or is comparing to other items just let me know if they want to buy it!

wizzywig · 07/01/2024 22:14

Oh I'm new on selling on vinted. Didn't realise that people d
favourite to see if they can get a discount

Ladolcevita233 · 07/01/2024 22:36

This behaviour has moved across to ebay too.

(Both sellers and buyers).

The postage thing - if I'm selling, I choose 3 working day dispatch - it's realistic; but buyers - due to vinted, Amazon etc seem to expect immediate dispatch. They buy items
with 3 day dispatch (not sure if they even note the expected delivery date) and then send you messages the next day asking if it's been posted yet or when it's being posted.
If I ask if they're in a rush for it, most of them say no. So why are they messaging me 1 day or less into a 3 working day dispatch, asking if it's been sent yet?

They also regularly email you offers on items you don't have "make offer" on. (Not all - some people just buy at BIn price).

But I presume the "offer" people think there behaviour is totally normal.
Their general attitude seems to be that you must be desperate and grateful.

They clearly think it's like vinted, also, because some watch your item and what they don't get a discount offer from you, message you saying "would you make me an offer?" Lol.

I think most eBay sellers are now putting their bin items on at raised prices because they know they are expected to make buyers discounted offers or accept offers.
