Why do people love Harry and Meghan and Hate William and Catherine so strongly. or the other way round?

I don't mean - what is their stated rationale for it, I mean what kind of psychology is behind this massive investment in total strangers?

The Dianna public grieving was a strange time, but it at least made sense - death of someone in the prime of her life, a huge loss to her family.

But why are some members of the general public so invested in picking sides in a family feud?

Yes I read it. For some strange reason it was a book club choice. The previous choice was a bio of Putin. . None of the offerings I have ever suggested were much better than either of those to be fair.

I think the whole thing is the latest iteration of the press creating and sustaining a conflict to sell papers (and these days clicks).

A tale as old as time of women being used and abused by the media to make money. There is always some truth on every side but many many more lies and exaggerations.

A more modern twist is that each side gets a fan base on social media outlets who are equally unpleasant in what they say about the other side. Why social media makes people say things they would never say in person I don't know but every media pitting of women against each other creates a new place for trolls/ fans to be mean.

Plus the evidence of bias is there too see. Look at that avocado article one about Kate one about Megan, but there are lots of examples.

For the record I don’t care about any of the royals and couldn’t give a toss about M&H. I feel like an independent observer who can see the press treated them appallingly. Until I meet anyone royal or not in person I don’t waste time predicting the kind of people they are.

I think you're right, but at the same time, Harry was overall one of the most popular royals until he left and started doing his own PR, and now he's totalled all that popularity. He does seem to have benefited from the Palace handling his press.

Same for me. I'm mixed race and was thrilled to see her brought into the RF. Thought it would be great representation for many in the country who are mixed like me.

100% this. I defend them because the hate is relentless, hateful and childish bullying, I’m not a supporter of them or William and Kate. I’m interested in all their lives as much as I am any other celebrity but what I see on Twitter is horrific. Grown adults (mainly middle-aged women) and troll accounts spreading hate and lies.

The worst culprits are the ones that believe their kids don’t exist/they used a surrogate/ they’re fake kids. They seriously need to seek help.

The pain they caused the late Queen has a lot to do with the poor opinion of them among those who previously were happy for them.

Their aims could have been accomplished privately. And their adoption of loud and public "professional victimhood" is disgusting.

Sweaty sex offender Prince Andrew is more palatable here than Prince Harry, who committed the heinous crime of not marrying the right type of person. Says a lot about society that no matter how much the government shit on people, no matter how many MP disgusting scandals, there's always time for hate-peddlers and those that love to imbibe themselves in the hate.

H & M are a useful deflection and diversion. Its not that deep in terms of the prejudiced, envious, disappointed in life and hard of thinking being easily influenced by the gutter press; they're wired that way and government and media know exactly which buttons to push.
