I’m very very ready for my young adult children to go home now ?

Case for the prosecution:

  1. LUNCH. My GOD JUST HAVE A SANDWICH. Why can’t young people eat lunch food? Not pasta or bagels or cooked this or that
  2. Inability to take the bins out
  3. work calls that take up a whole room
  4. GLASSES everywhere
I love them obviously. But they can go home now.

(They are any day )

@Poppysmom22 good old noodles!

NotFastButFurious · 02/01/2024 18:53

YABU purely for saying that bagels aren’t a lunch thing!

@321user123 now picky bits or tapas or antipasti I can deal with too as we always have jars of olives and roasted peppers/gherkins/cold meats and bits in the fridge but you could also take some of them and whack em on bread. Actually having to boil water for something or take out extra pots and pans is what irks me.

But…. Do they not clean up???
I don’t see the issue with the pots as long as they get cleaned or put in the dishwasher at least.
if they’re left everywhere that would heavily Piss me off 😂

Poppysmom22 · 02/01/2024 18:54

i just googled ramen it looks a bit grim like wool in a bowl of dishwater with an egg bobbing around it. Can’t they just eat pot noodles and take a multivitamin like the rest of us.
clearly I’m an uncultured heathen

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:55

Thing is they do, but mine are working so it’s often not until they finish the working day

Someone pays them to give opinions about things which is amazing

I blame the parents.

My eldest DD has just come back home recently. Yesterday she put a wash on of her own clothes then pissed off out to stay at her boyfriends for 2 days. It's ok sweetheart, I'll dry and fold them then 🙄😅

No, coz that looks shit on insta/TikTok/snapchat.

Ha ha, totally understand about lunch. Mine are not great sandwich people if other options are available. At least pasta is mega cheap and I never get involved in making lunch.
However, in the last 24 hours, mine has put the bins out when I've forgotten, silently carried the shopping in without being asked and tidied up. He also seems to have acquired a new gratitude for everything I do for him, which is nice. However, he's on an annoying health kick so none of the food I've bought quite cuts it. But I'll miss him when he goes back (luckily not until mid January). 😄

My 18yo eats pasta with tomato purée and cheese at every possible opportunity. At least daily, if not multiple times a day.

I put a measuring cup, tube of tomato xxx purée, bag of pasta and a cheese grater in her stocking this Christmas.

I'm sick of going to make Spag Bol for dinner only to find a) she's somehow used three cheese graters throughout the day and they're all in the dishwasher (there's nothing worse than danger hand washing a grater) b) there's no fucking purée left and I've not been told and c) there's also no pasta left but I have endless tupperwares of cooked pasta in the fridge cos she cooks ten tonnes at a time for one meal!

I've also taken to hiding emergency cheese in the veg drawer as there's no danger of her ever going in there.

Grrrrr.

Ohyoudodoyou · 02/01/2024 18:59

I want to wash my plate and knife and leave to drain on the dish drainer but I have to take great pains to strategically pile it on top of Ramen Jenga.

I don't get why everyone's picking up their kids dirty stuff for them?

They’ve probably run out of clean crockery.

AllstarFacilier · 02/01/2024 18:59

I take lunch to work that need a microwave, I can’t stand a sandwich - so boring.

GellerYeller · 02/01/2024 19:01

@FrillyGoatFluff we have multiple tiny graters for this very reason… take up less space in the dishwasher, no need to wash by hand/grate knuckles/shred the pan scourer. Why must they grate at every meal though?!!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 02/01/2024 19:01

Lunch wise my DS mainly takes leftovers of his evening meal into work . He would never actually make a sandwich but gets meal deals or subway sometimes .

Pushkinini · 02/01/2024 19:01

I feel your pain OP. I have two of my own, one has come with her partner, the other has come with a friend. The friend went home today, the rest are here until Saturday. I love them, and we've had a lovely time, but I want my house back now.

I feel like I've spent the last 4 days either thinking about food, cooking food or picking up empty glasses. Roll on the weekend!

dayswithaY · 02/01/2024 19:01

What’s going on with the lunches? My 20somethings do the same for lunch - pan frying salmon, making something katsu on a bed of rice. Has lunch now become an event? To me, it’s just a stop gap before you get to your dinner.

They appear to be the same as my elderly parents who, on the stroke of midday they must start planning their lunch.

As for those people saying sandwiches are not nutritious, what if you eat your lunch at work? How can you whip up a risotto in the staff canteen next to everyone’s coffee mugs?

I’ll stick to my cheese sandwiches, thanks.

Mooda · 02/01/2024 19:02

I like the elaborate lunches as long as they make enough for me!

Funkyslippers · 02/01/2024 19:02

Yeah I forget just how bossy DD1 is when she comes home! She's always telling us to turn the TV down when she's in her room and woe betide anyone who turns the hallway light on when she's asleep.....!
