I’m very very ready for my young adult children to go home now ?

Case for the prosecution:

  1. LUNCH. My GOD JUST HAVE A SANDWICH. Why can’t young people eat lunch food? Not pasta or bagels or cooked this or that
  2. Inability to take the bins out
  3. work calls that take up a whole room
  4. GLASSES everywhere
I love them obviously. But they can go home now.

(They are any day )

I never have a sandwich for lunch and I am hardly a youngster
Sandwich is an awful lunch

YouJustDoYou · 02/01/2024 18:00

I don't get why everyone's picking up their kids dirty stuff for them?

familydilema · 02/01/2024 18:01

I laughed out loud at the lunch thing, mine also has to make something elaborate.

I did too 😂i thought i was the only one who's son ate like that at lunchtime !

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:03

Where have the elaborate lunches come from?

Don’t worry, I do expect them to do a lot of things, but just some things they do differently

That's interesting about the lunch thing. I work with 4, sometimes 5, girls in their early twenties and every lunchtime they each heat up pasta, curry and rice, thai food etc. In other words a proper hot meal. Meanwhile I always have a sandwich or I might go mad and have a roll! Has eating the main meal at lunchtime become a thing?

Psychoticbreak · 02/01/2024 18:05

Theres a year old in our office that regularly has pop tarts for lunch. I couldnt do it myself but at least it is quick and easy. Might actually invest in some for here....

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:06

no, I think they have a meeting in the evening as well

It's the discrepancy in circadian rhythm that we are struggling with as well as the cooking a full lasagne for lunch. DS2 and DD are off school and are night owls.

DS1 & his gf go out to the pub when we go to bed (we both work in a hospital and get up at 6am). I've had to ask him to go to his GF Dad's tonight (they've been here days) because I can't hack another night of being woken at 11.30pm when they get in and the endless opening & closing of the bathroom door. They are going 'at about 8pm'. Why? Why go out at 8pm and not go this morning when I asked Angry

The showers too. The towels draped everywhere. The bits of grated cheese. I can't wait for uni and school to start again.

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:08

Interestingly, now, my eldest child berates the youngest for his bathroom etiquette, so that is much better

These office workers really are getting younger and younger

PixiKitKat · 02/01/2024 18:10

I never thought of a quick pasta or rice dish for lunch as 'elaborate' 🤣 I'll only have a sandwich if I'm buying it out somewhere so it's a bit nicer as it's so boring at home.

Soonenough · 02/01/2024 18:11

My 20 something returns to her teenage self and comes onto my bedroom for conditioner , face wipes, hairband, hairdryer , straighteners, phone charger .Bad enough but doesn't leave them back so I have to go searching . Cooked lunch or breakfast a thing here too , she does clean up , but ooh the smells . I hate the smell of garlic or chilli in the morning.

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:12

It is boring, I know but when you’ve got leftover Christmas meat or loads of cheese and stuff and lovely bread you think just put something in a bit of bread.

But no you have to start cooking pasta and then draining it and all that shit or get the toasted sandwich maker out it just seems a lot of faff and a lot of tidying up that isn’t done as promptly done as I would

@Goldypants the only one doing the berating in this house is me. I'd love a fellow bathroom & kitchen berater. It has been so festive saying 'pick that up/wipe that down/move that/put that in the dishwasher/sweep that up' Grin

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:13

lol
I remember saying to my lot, why am I the only person in this house who can toilet themselves properly? Then use the fucking bleach

I don't know. Maybe Instagram?

I was quite relieved to read your OP as I have the same situation vis-a-vis the elaborate lunches, and I thought it was just me.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 02/01/2024 18:15

Glad it's not just me. I did a somersault when DD announced that she needs to go back to uni on Friday!

My DD has been home from uni and seems incapable of having a snack/lunch that doesn't require being cooked and using every utensil we have!!
Agree; have a bloody sandwich!!

Doteycat · 02/01/2024 18:17

I'm on bedrest since before Xmas. We have 3 adult children a fiance and a dog extra.

I'm so glad I'm on bedrest. Cos omg. The people. The noise. The food. The dog with my cats. The recycling. The work calls.
Just the everything of it. They have been a huge help to dh. But mostly the stuff is because of them. Dh wld have just cooked for me and him and in fairness the house wld barely be disturbed, I haven't been downstairs apart from a few hours xmas day.
Cups. Towels. Food. Dinners. Dishwasher. Coffees. Cakes. Baking.
It's just so bizarre.
We lived in lockdown 5 of us for months if not years.
Now I cant cope with 2 weeks lol.

Totally fine to have first world problems. I live in the first world.
Rediculous comment from you.
