I’m very very ready for my young adult children to go home now ?

Case for the prosecution:

  1. LUNCH. My GOD JUST HAVE A SANDWICH. Why can’t young people eat lunch food? Not pasta or bagels or cooked this or that
  2. Inability to take the bins out
  3. work calls that take up a whole room
  4. GLASSES everywhere
I love them obviously. But they can go home now.

(They are any day )

And it was a definite no to soup.

Scrantonicity2 · 02/01/2024 18:38

What's more of a first world problem, I wonder: being mildly irked enough by your children's behaviour that you write a MN post about it, or being mildly irked enough by someone else's MN post that you write a MN post about it?

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:41

I’m sure sandwiches are nutritious.

Ha ha I remember when I went back to my parents house aged 22 for 3 months as I was moving down south for work in the new year. They were (& still are) amazing parents but my goodness they hated it. About 3 weeks in it was obvious they just wanted me (& my 2 hamsters) gone. I was quite put out but I see how annoying I must have been!

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:38

They’re not starving. All athletic and huge

That’s not the point.

im sure my view is skewed as I'm Italian and other family is from all over the world and honestly no one in my circle would have a sandwich for lunch unless we’re travelling, on the go, on holiday or just can’t get food.

I grew up with steak and salad, meat, pasta, maybe an omelette with say mortadella or some ham and salad and the like.
Sandwiches are a mid morning snack for me 🫣

Son 2 a student mind
Breakfast- avocado on sourdough toast
Lunch - omelette or de facto chicken and rice
Dinner - whatever I have made once I've cleared up all the utensils he has used earlier that day!

Goldypants · 02/01/2024 18:43

Oh you can get out! 😁😁😁

have my kids sent you? 🥸

This sounds something I’d be having and I’m not a young student 🫣

Isn’t that the main point of MN - people being irked by other people’s behaviour or other peoples posts? MN wouldn’t exist if other people weren’t so irksome!

Bloody chicken and rice. 😤😤

My youngest is like 6 foot five and he cooks a kilo of chicken breast and then goes through those in the week.

I thought it was just mine with the elaborate lunch! DD having a lovely time making fancy lunches with the most expensive things she can find in the fridge - and using every pan and utensil. I think I just ate pasta and toast until I was about 25!

I regularly fantasise about how much money I'll have when they both leave and I don't have to constantly shop to replace all the food they have eaten!

Beebop1784 · 02/01/2024 18:44

ITT - older women shocked that younger generations eat more nutritious food. Toast isn't a meal

EdithStourton · 02/01/2024 18:44

Put it away. Just put it away in the right place. I do not want to search the kitchen for the bloody scissors. I do not want to find the sodding ladle lying dirty in the sink. I do not want to be wondering where the fuck half the mugs are. I do not want to be moving your bloody clobber off my basket of knitting, or having to pick up your coat because, a la you at 12, you have no idea how to use a hook properly.

To be fair mine aren't too bad, and are lovely company, but I shall be so glad to be able to leave somewhere tidy and return to either find it tidy, or know who to blame if it isn't (DH).

Ohyoudodoyou · 02/01/2024 18:44

Bloody ramen noodles. All the time.

SingingSands · 02/01/2024 18:45

Oh I'm so ready for DD to go back to her uni house. If I suggest making a sandwich for lunch I get presented with her sad face. She has 5 glasses in her bedroom, none of them empty, they all have a bit of water in. I was delighted to go back to office today and enjoy a sandwich in peace 😆

SweetPeasOnEarth · 02/01/2024 18:46

@Goldypants your post reminded me of the Yiddish folktale that I used to read to my DCs.....It Could Always Be Worse....
I don't know how to do links so I've attached a photo ....it's a fun short read that we parents can definitely relate to

Meanwhile, I've been informed by our visiting DS that we don't have any proper dried herbs and spices in this house...off he goes to the shops and came home with several little bottles and dispensed a dash here and a dash there into his next lunch and dinner...since we don't use seasonings when he's not here, they'll be plenty in the cupboard when he returns for his next visits...for at least a decade to come. 🥘🍲🍛🫙🏺

@321user123 now picky bits or tapas or antipasti I can deal with too as we always have jars of olives and roasted peppers/gherkins/cold meats and bits in the fridge but you could also take some of them and whack em on bread. Actually having to boil water for something or take out extra pots and pans is what irks me.

Poppysmom22 · 02/01/2024 18:48

When I came home from uni my mum used to despair because everything went on a sandwich and 25 years later I still love sandwiches

Ohyoudodoyou · 02/01/2024 18:48

( meant to add with all the eggs and veg cooked and with the chopsticks and in the proper ramen bowl and cooked in pans and lots of other dishes brought out and lots of other cutlery...)
I'm watching all this unfolding as I bite into a cheese butty for lunch.

Toast with nutella here this morning. One went so far as to put icing sugar on hers. They did have an apple each with it but then you cant produce toast for lunch if it was already for breakfast - apparently.
