I’m very very ready for my young adult children to go home now ?

Case for the prosecution:

  1. LUNCH. My GOD JUST HAVE A SANDWICH. Why can’t young people eat lunch food? Not pasta or bagels or cooked this or that
  2. Inability to take the bins out
  3. work calls that take up a whole room
  4. GLASSES everywhere
I love them obviously. But they can go home now.

(They are any day )

And god forbid I do a simple dinner of jacket potato with salmon and vegetables.

Goatymum · 02/01/2024 22:02

My young adult uni daughter is cultivating an offshoot of the kitchen cupboards in her bedroom!! ‘I’ll bring them down, mum…’

Apparently jacket potatoes are ‘boring’ 😆

Fullofxmascbeer · 02/01/2024 22:04

I hear the elaborate lunches.
Smashed avocado (with lime and chilli) on sour dough with fried halloumi is the favourite lunch at the moment.

Mamabear2424 · 02/01/2024 22:04

Mine cant eat a normal lunch so have to order uber eats!!

Glasses everywhere

Lights on in entire house

nocturnal

AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

You seem to be very proud or your very poor diet. Hope you realise this before you get ill.

I am genuily shocked that people find chicken and rice or pasta with tuna an elaborate lunch! god forbid with chopped spring onions on top of it.

It scares me that people still eat like this when there is so much more we know about the effects of diet now.

This poster has cake for breakfast, tinned soup and then tinned beans/hoops - this is ALL sugar. It concerns me that people don’t know that. Not a single fresh vegetable mentioned.

Did you miss the some times in that post? And the poster didn't mention breakfast!

Mamabear2424 · 02/01/2024 22:16

I dont even get lunch, dont really bother and if i do its a quick sarnie

Cant wait for young adults to MOVE OUT !! lol

cyclamenqueen · 02/01/2024 22:18

My dh reports that there is no escape at work either with all the twenty somethings rushing to the microwave to heat up their Thai curry/noodles/pasta or whatever . In my day you would have been roundly told off for making smells in the office . Plus a whole meal sandwich with a protein and salad filling is perfectly nutritious . We also wouldn’t have had a long enough break to make all these complex meals .

Mamabear2424 · 02/01/2024 22:23

yes ive seen that in an office, ffs just have cheese sandwich!

LuckySantangelo35 · 02/01/2024 22:24

“How do people have time to prepare, eat and clear up elaborate meals in the middle of the day? Don't they have other things to do? Not to mention all the shopping. And the cost.”

THIS!! Can anyone shed any light?!

Well the office 20 somethings seem to make it the night before. I'm lucky if I remember to stick a banana and a pot of oats in my bag

tachetastic · 02/01/2024 22:37

@moomoomoo27 : My theory is that parents love their kids less the older they get. They try to justify every single stage as a difficult stage and it'll pass. Then they're older and hate their grown up children even more, because they're never good enough in one way or another. Then they look back and think the younger years weren't so bad after all, even though they hated the stages at the time. It's sad really.

Can we have a sense of humour delivered to aisle 27? 😉

Pinkwallsandfloors · 02/01/2024 22:46

I love this thread, it's like a proper old mnet thread from years ago. I can relate to every single post (apart from the two snarky ones).

Gaming until 4am is becoming a bit trying now I must say, them and their mates hollering into their headsets, calling each other penises and commie bastards, does make me laugh though

SquirrelHash · 02/01/2024 22:53

sweetpickle23 · 02/01/2024 18:27

Isn't a bagel the same concept as a sandwich?

Not when there's a piece of organic grass fed silverside Corning on the side to go in it...

Enko · 02/01/2024 22:57

I'm the opposite i blooming love having them all home. I love the odd lunches especially when they make me some and I don't mind the dishes but then we have a everyone does dishes after dinner rule.

Ds went back already and dd2 goes next week. I will miss her as much as I do ds. At least I get to keep dd2 a bit longer. (Ds1 is fully fledged)

ssd · 02/01/2024 22:57

It is a great thread i agree @Pinkwallsandfloors

katepilar · 02/01/2024 23:02

This is a very weird and sad thread for me. I cant help thinking that parenting has gone somewhat wrong at lot of places if the children behave this badly in their parents' homes. (I dont mean the need for proper meal for lunch which I consider normal.)

ssd · 02/01/2024 23:02

I could live on toast

ssd · 02/01/2024 23:03

Lighten up @katepilar

Weenurse · 02/01/2024 23:05

DD’s used to laugh at my routine breakfast and lunch.
Porridge for breakfast and sandwich thins with cheese and tomato with fruit and a cake or biscuit for lunch.
Now DD1 has sandwich thins for lunch and DD2 has porridge for breakfast.
DD2 does batch cook pasta meals or homemade tomato soup for lunch. Tinned stuff doesn’t get a look in.
We have saved a lot of money and throw out a lot less food since they moved out.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 02/01/2024 23:08

DS and his girlfriend came to stay for a week in October.
They’re still here. 😳
Couldn’t use the oven last night because it was kale chips baking night. My house stank of rancid fart that not even I as a menopausal fart champion have managed to top! Fuck me. I just thought: You can’t eat that and presume it’s a good thing.
Tonight the oven was overtaken by tomorrow’s work lunch.
She works from home: My home.
The vegan food prep and dietary requirements are just getting to me. I’m a single mum with two younger mouths to feed.
I love them both, but I had a proper cry on the dog walk today. DS and his GF are unintentionally breaking me. Their expectations are sky high. They’re just rather confident and in your face and expectant (is that a word?).
Fuck. I was chuffed if I had a meal at The Stockpot twice a month.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 02/01/2024 23:24

What an odd post @moomoomoo27

Of course we don't hate our adult children. Everyone on this thread has been clear that they love their DC.

Otter77 · 02/01/2024 23:27

YouJustDoYou · 02/01/2024 18:00

I don't get why everyone's picking up their kids dirty stuff for them?

Because when you’ve already asked them 57 times and they haven’t done anything except huff it’s just easier to do it yourself when you want a glass of water and the glass cupboard is bare.

I hear you all on the grated cheese. I also have to hide food that is in the dinner plan so it doesn’t get cooked when they get the munchies at 3am.

Caroparo52 · 02/01/2024 23:36

Made me laugh.
Breakfast is eggs and avocado and banana and peanut butter.l
Dd then eats left overs from last nights dinner for Lunch 1 about 2.00pm
Then at 4.00 there's prawn linguine for lunch 2.
Then full home cooked dinner at 7.00pm
Costs me an absolute fortune
