To think this isn't sexual assault...

I saw a story on the BBC about Jenni Hermoso testifying in a sexual assault case about her kiss with Luis Rubiales. Not having seen the kiss, I decided to look at a video of it, a link of which I've put below.

Firstly, i need to say I think sexual assault is extremely serious, and it's appalling how low the conviction rate is for sexual crimes. Men get away with far too much, and it's sickening.

However, in all honesty, i wouldn't class the kiss here as sexual assault. This is a lengthy full body embrace followed by a very brief peck of a kiss.

If something like this is classed as sexual assault, then it surely makes it impossible to initiate anything physical at all without explicit verbal consent.

Surely there's much more to this... i reckon she hated the guy before this incident and this was a way to get him back for other shitty and belittling treatment from him over the years.

I have been kissed and touched without express verbal consent many, many times. As an adjusted adult, I can tell the difference between exuberant affection and sexual assault. I have been pecked on the lips by all sorts of people over the decades without me verbally agreeing before hand. It was not sexual assault.

this whole debacle has trivialised rather than highlighted real sexual assault. It has not helped women.

men are routinely criticised for “not doing enough” to support the women’s game. I wouldn’t blame them for not wanting to be involved in future.

women can go and build their own FIFA or UEFA and build their own game completely independent of the men’s game so maybe they should do that.

Well no-one is making you complain about it. If you are happy for randoms to kiss you on the lips, fill your boots.

What you don't get to do is to tell other women to shut up and put up with it or not make a fuss.

As for men's teams, many men in Spanish football backed Hermoso. There are plenty of enlightened men in football as well as the dinosaurs.

Men's and women's players across Spain have shown support for Hermoso and condemned Luis Rubiales's actions.

Nope. None of this.

Yet another straw man.

I mean what was he even there? Surely there should be a governing body for women’s football, and it should be them handing out the prizes. especially if men are just so awful.

why does the women’s game even submit to FIFA? Could it be for commercial reasons? Perhaps they could negotiate better commercial deals and build the game as they see fit with a women’s own governing body.

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:17

The overwhelming majority of the football community in Spain have not backed Hermoso.

Same for me. Big kisses from my grannies, aunties until at least my early teens. Defo into the hundreds.

I’m sorry that happened to you. You’ve mentioned it several times, so it seems you’re not fine with it.

Why did they stop when you reached your teens?

jacks90 · 02/01/2024 22:19

Ah gotcha. You really are not worth engaging with. Damn enough crazy talk from MN today 😂 gonna sleep

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:20

Are you now using sexual assault as a subject with which to goad?

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:20

Why wouldn’t women’s football want to be independent of FIFA?

ElephantMilk · 02/01/2024 22:24

I guess the bit I'm struggling with is how it can be sexual assault with no sexual element?

All completely irrelevant to unwanted sexual contact.

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:25

It’s a wider discussion now. Not keen to address the point?

You just struggle away while the rest of us are changing society so women don't have to put up with this kind of shit any more.

I don't have address any of your irrelevant points but you can start your own thread about those annoying women playing our game if you want....

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:26

You think this has helped how women are perceived in society and has made actual sexual assault less likely?

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:28

I have no issue with women’s football whatsoever. My daughter plays it and loves it. I even watch it on TV. Y why not an independent body rather than being answerable to a bunch of corrupt male beaurocrats at FIFA?

I think we know the answer.

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:26

I think it has the opposite effect. People will think "oh, sexual assault....like that woman who cried blue murder when her coach gave her a non sexual kiss like has been common in football for decades?"

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:30

Actually I think it’s probably better leaving it as it is. An independent women’s governing body for football would have long since allowed men into the women’s game under the guise of trans rights and we would have had hundreds of female players seriously injured by now.

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:31

I think so too. Hermoso has undermined women and sexual assault victims.

If he's convicted, yes.

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:26

I think that men in authority are far less likely to kiss a woman against her will knowing that it is despised, yes.

I think it has empowered many women to use their voices, yes.

I don't think one situation will stop sexual assault, no. Any more than other egregious cases of sexual assault that have had a huge backlash have stopped sexual assault happening. But society changes incrementally. And this is part of it.

JustanotherMNSlapperTwat · 02/01/2024 22:31

I've gotta love how whenever someone has a weak argument in this thread they just randomly drag trans people into it as if its at all relevant

I think you're struggling to answer too because you know that if you point out that he kissed her without consent then you have to logically agree that me and the above posters have been sexually assaulted hundreds of time by our female relatives and at least one poster has committed recent sexual assault against a child by kissing them without their consent. 😉

Why do you keep saying he was her coach when you know that wasn't the case?

Westernesse · 02/01/2024 22:33

And if he is not you will accept the verdict of the Spanish court, yes?

I'm not struggling with it at all as I have repeatedly said this is not acceptable.
