To hate New Years Day.
Such a cliche. Pretty much one of the worst days of the year right??

OP posts:

Maybe a long time ago but I don’t know anyone in Scotland who is interested in Hogmanay or New Year’s Day anymore.

it’s over.

Allthecatsandcosyblankets · 01/01/2024 08:15

I hate new years eve but don't mind new years day. Ill don't drink alcohol but I remember new years day would always be awful when I did. I'll spend today cleaning/tidying and have a nice dinner in for today and I'm glad the festive period (in my home) is now completely over. I'll try to get the kids out for a walk later as well. But I'm looking forward to a fresh new year as last year was shit to be honest and I'm hoping this one is better.

Love it, a fresh new page to start a new year. I’m Scottish and it’s always been more important than Christmas.

Edited

Yep!

We're looking forward to friends and family coming for lunch which will be more people than Christmas but more relaxed and cosier.

We'll watch the concert from Vienna with coffee and pain au chocolat and maybe some Bucks Fizz.

Then we'll have our steak pies and good wine (I didn't drink much last night so will enjoy it)

And this evening cheese and a film

Perfect!

I've always been fond of NYD. I don't know how it's clichéd? For several reasons we haven't planned anything, but a walk alone or with friends or loved ones is such a simple lovely healthy way to start a new year. We're having breakfast in bed, but we almost always do on days off. I do have to return to work tomorrow after 10 days off, but this week is always slow at work. And although i really look forward to the feast of December, I'm now really looking forward to the healthy January choices and i have a couple of lovely things in the diary for January.

Same here, made a big pot of Scots broth, Scot peas and a beautiful Scots steak pie 🥰

We are having friends over, going for a hyke, back home to said NY traditional food and then tonight with games/cheeseboard/movies…

BarrelOfOtters · 01/01/2024 08:56

I’m Scottish not living in Scotland…I like a walk on NYD and always say happy new year to anyone I meet. Which is met with a ‘weirdo’ look here. Can’t help myself though.

it’s a day off. I like it.

mogsrus · 01/01/2024 09:18

We’re going out for breakfast at a very nice country pub.

ItAintGonnaGoDownEasyIfItAintCheezy · 01/01/2024 09:34

New year, new start, it's the best day of the year for me.

Alwaystired23 · 01/01/2024 09:34

I'm not really sure what the problem is with New years Day. It's just a day. I'm planning on going for a walk and watching TV. Like a regular weekend day.

Dressed
Dh cooked breakfast
Christmas tree down
Lovely fresh walk in the sunshine
Great Christmas but now it's out with the old , in with the new.

Lottapianos · 01/01/2024 09:38

'I love NYD. All the festive crap is over, life is getting back to normal, yet I don't have to go to work.'

Same here! Happy January, Christmas is over 😊

It's just a day like any other, you can make it what you want. Here it will be a walk, telly, nice dinner and a cocktail later

TammyJones · 01/01/2024 09:41

Woahyeahyeahyeah · 01/01/2024 07:03

Sorry OP, but I love it! Especially if I haven't been out the Night before so feeling fresh. A whole new year of adventures, how exciting!

Jeevesnotwooster · 01/01/2024 09:41

Love it. And NYE.

NYD is the perfect giving zero fucks day so everyone can do what they want (unless you're clearing up but even that is always slow for us).
We were out last night and the only thing I have to do later is cook dinner and not sure I can even be bothered to do that.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/01/2024 09:42

Confused Not sure what the problem is? What is 'clichéd' about it? We are going to go for a nice walk (which we'd do anyway on a weekend / Bank Holiday day) and otherwise chill out.

It never feels like a big deal for me as I've always worked in schools and September feels like the 'new page' beginning of the year to me.

saveforthat · 01/01/2024 09:46

How can a day be a cliche? I love it but it is my birthday. Going for a long walk with the dog then out lunch.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 01/01/2024 09:47

coxesorangepippin · 01/01/2024 02:01

Just get through it

What are you ‘getting through’ though?

Surely it’s just a bonus day off with no real expectations attached? Or do people have socialising and other stuff they’re ‘supposed’ to do, like at Christmas?

For me it’s just a nice chilled day that marks the end of the festive season and the start of the new year. Lie in after the night before, have a bit of a clean round, air the house, walk the dog, get everyone sorted for the rest of the week, then a bit of telly, maybe a movie, last of the Christmas chocolate. I mean, I can think of worse days to be honest 🤷‍♀️

CaineRaine · 01/01/2024 09:51

It’s just feels like a lazy Sunday to me, we’re not doing anything special other than chilling out before back to work beckons.

DrinksbytheSea · 01/01/2024 09:51

I’m always too hungover to really do anything with the day which I realise is a crap way to start the new year. DH is very hungover. It will be a lazy day for us!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 01/01/2024 09:53

It's just another day here. I have no strong feelings either way.

SpringleDingle · 01/01/2024 09:54

It’s a bank holiday! I’ve been out since 7:30am with dog. Now at a forest cafe for breakfast. Will be a nice cosy afternoon on the sofa then! Lovely 🥰

pictoosh · 01/01/2024 09:56

It's a nice day off. Make it what you want it to be.

pictoosh · 01/01/2024 09:57

Or not.

tadpolelove · 01/01/2024 09:58

I don't mind it I prefer it to nye. Something nice about it being the first page of a new year. Got a nice lamb roast to do today and all the trimmings, and going on holiday Thursday so need to start packing our suitcases

Mirrorballsocial · 01/01/2024 09:59

Christ there are a lot of miserable people here. I love a final day off! Going to eat party food and watch tv.

whizzbangpopsplutter · 01/01/2024 10:14

It's the eighth day of Christmas here! We get a lot more excited about Christmas than NY: NY-specific celebrations are pretty much limited to watching the fireworks if we're awake and wishing each other a HNY. We had a nice dinner with extended family last night, but that was more about Christmas than NY. I don't feel any pressure about NYD: it's just another nice, chilled holiday day.
