To be scared that I’m still marked by the crows?

ChoccyOrangeYum · 31/12/2023 23:14

A couple of years ago I walked the dog on a local field. I know nothing about birds but I was later told it was their breeding season.

Anyway we must have got too close to their nests as they suddenly started flying around irrationally, making a hell of a racket screaming etc and then started dive bombing the dog. The dog thought this was fun so started chasing the crows. All hell broke loose basically and we were suddenly surrounded by crows going mental. We made a quick exit!!

I left it a few days then took the dog back on the field but after speaking to locals about the crows I stayed away from the back of the field (where they’re breeding) and kept dog in lead. As soon as we stepped on the field the noise started up again and the crows appeared and started dive bombing again! There was someone else on the field with a dog who the crows were totally ignoring!

We left and after a bit of research I found that crows remember faces and don’t forgive easily 😬 so we didn’t go back on.

A whole year later we went back on assuming the old crows won’t be there anymore but we were on there 5 minutes before it all started again. These birds are not bothering anyone else on the field, just me!!

Anyway my neighbour has suggested we go for a walk in the field tomorrow morning but I’m shit scared of the birds. Will they still go for me if I don’t have the dog?! Will they ever move on from the incident 2 years ago or am I banned from the field for life?!

WHAT HAPPENED TO @ChoccyOrangeYum we need to track her down she is likely held hostage by crows 😳😵‍💫

I hope she's not met the fate as depicted in your username 😂!

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/01/2024 18:30

This is one of my former patients at the wildlife hospital. He's a Jackdaw and was in very bad shape when he arrived. I started feeding him (and cleaning his cage etc) when he was in ICU and he was extremely aggressive with me to start with. As his health improved, he was moved into one of the pre-release aviaries where I continued to feed him. By this point he would aggressively peck at my shoes 😂but he eventually decided I was okay and progressed to letting me take his photo and feed him on a branch without all the pecking and cantankerous behaviour. We're not supposed to have favourites but he was one of mine.

He's released into the wild now. If the OP is anywhere near Kent and my Jackdaw is now running a murderous crew of Crows, she's in serious trouble. I wouldn't mess with him. 😛

This thread just reminded me I'd been meaning to change my username for a while

😂I've now got an image of OP tottering out into the soggy field in her court shoes, neat chignon hair and a creamy 2 piece skirt and jacket combo, waving her slender arms at the crow-filled sky, silk scarf clutched in her white knuckles...

She should know better - if there's one thing we do here, it's advise people to dress appropriately for the weather and occasion. Tut tut Choccy.

@Somatosensational A cockatiel wad my first bird, they are wonderful little creatures and so loving. Birds ate just the best along with bats🦜🦇

Been waiting all day for the OP to come back but no update nearly 10 hours later ... I think the crows may have won this battle.

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/01/2024 19:01

I think I just spotted the OP on her walk in disguise 😛

@PossumintheHouse > Was it a cassowary? They look absolutely terrifying. But I do love the corvids.

knowsmorethansnow · 01/01/2024 19:08

I got attacked by a seagull that took my fresh donuts at the sea side and seen a swan attack a woman who shouted at it. She was shouting to distract it because it was taking ducklings out of a nest one by one and drowning them.

harriethoyle · 01/01/2024 19:20

OH DEAR GOD, OP IS CROW FOOD!

cannot shake Moira visions from my mind

It was, I have learned this evening. It’s basically a massive, evil crow on steroids.

covetingthepreciousthings · 01/01/2024 19:27

@HundredMilesAnHour thank you for sharing that picture, I'd totally have favourites in that role too. Hope he's living his best crow life now he's recovered and back in the wild

Inastatus · 01/01/2024 19:30

@HundredMilesAnHour - bless him! What a fantastic job you have.

Pumpkintopf · 01/01/2024 19:32

On the guard geese issue friends had a male goose who fell in love with their wheelie bin and consequently would attack anyone who approached it. Was very inconvenient and their Labrador was terrified of it.

@HundredMilesAnHour thanks for posting the photo, what a handsome bird and wonderful outcome. I am so glad there are people like you.

Bippitybobbityboing · 01/01/2024 19:52

Well I've only popped back to find out how OP and the crowd were getting along and she's disappeared!!!

Cherrysoup · 01/01/2024 20:00

I went to the nearest park one day this year, one of the dogs stole a baby crow-massive but obviously a baby, or how would he have caught it? I was chased by the entire murder, they dive bombed the dog and me. It was terrifying. I was then ambushed by two at the exit, presumably the parents. I’ve never let the dog off until we get past the stand of trees where they all live. They remembered us for a while after but fortunately now I can go in and not be attacked, but blow me, being chased by dozens of crows was one of my worst experiences ever on a dog walk!

Fallenangelofthenorth · 01/01/2024 20:03

What a fantastic thread! I had no idea they were so vengeful and got their mates and their kids to also join in with their lifelong quest for revenge. I wonder if "The Birds" is actually based on a true story 😲

On the other hand, I would quite like my own army of vengeful assassins, who reward my kindness with shiny things, so I might keep a lookout for them in my garden and bribe them with cheese and cat biscuits.

Bit concerning @ChoccyOrangeYum hasn't been seen since 9.25 though when she specifically said she'd update. I can only assume the worst at this hour...

UsingChangeofName · 01/01/2024 20:07

I would love for this thread to be illustrated by Quentin Blake.

Helendegenerate · 01/01/2024 20:07

Despite being number one in the pecking order, OP has not shown her face again so it's a poor show. Perhaps some corvid crime has indeed been committed and a creature is up before the beak.

Yes welcome to pun city folks.

Sorry 😝

Tonight1 · 01/01/2024 20:15

@Cherrysoup did the crow survive?

WillowTit · 01/01/2024 20:27

well birds are descended from dinosaurs, what do you expect?

Trinity69 · 01/01/2024 20:40

Shamelessly place marking. OP….are you ok?!

nocoolnamesleft · 01/01/2024 20:43

Anyone else checking the news for reports of crow attacks?
