Anyone else dreading returning to work?

Had such a lovely time with my kids and husband and seeing family I absolute dread the return of everyday life. Working all day 5 days a week barely spending any decent time with my kids.

It’s even made me think about leaving my well paid corporate job and whether it’s even worth it anymore. I’ll never be rich anyway or well off enough to not worry.

What is the point in missing out on so much life for a bit of extra money.

Just a counter to all this I am no longer working due to a health condition but also can’t work now as DD has stopped attending school. She is home ed at least for now. So we are free from all the routines & structures of work/ school which might sounds great but it has its own challenges!

Norma27 · 31/12/2023 18:08

I would be but I finish my current job one month day and start a new one which sounds so much more interesting and I can’t wait to start.

coxesorangepippin · 31/12/2023 18:09

Nope

And you know the reason why?

Because I WFH

FizzyStream · 31/12/2023 18:11

I'm only not dreading it because I'm working my notice and will be leaving in 6 weeks (with a whole week of leave in the middle)

If it wasn't for that I'd be feeling sick and panicky which is the reason I'm leaving! Luckily I'm going back to my old job which is flexible, I know it well and enjoy it, even if it's a little monotonous and very slightly lower paid. I'd prefer that than feeling crippling anxiety every day.

ArcticBells · 31/12/2023 18:18

I'm dreading going back. I've been applying for jobs for months but never even get an interview. No one wants a 60 year old

mrlistersgelfbride · 31/12/2023 19:43

Yes, me.

I'm back on 2nd.
I started a new job at the end of September after being in one I loved for 10 years.
If I'm honest, the new job isn't going particularly well.
I really need to knuckle down and for a few things to go right in the next few months 🤞

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 31/12/2023 21:53

@mrlistersgelfbride just curious, if you loved your job and were there for ten years why did you leave?

Namechange4448830938489 · 31/12/2023 21:54

Not at all - I'm retired 😂

Guttedme · 01/01/2024 00:30

Insurers . Not sure if disappointed I don’t have January off.

My job only lasts another 31 days until the next tenderhooks.

Guttedme · 01/01/2024 00:31

Unsure not insurers!

Tangled123 · 01/01/2024 00:50

I’m looking forward to getting out of the house again but not looking forward to going to work. My favourite colleague left recently and the ones left are really annoying. This year is also going to be pretty stressful so I’m not looking forward to that. On the plus side, I get paid from my two jobs this week, so I’ll be happy to get money again (I get paid weekly but we didn’t get paid last week because of Christmas).

I'm resigning next Friday which is my first day back. Can't wait!! Shame I have to work 3 months notice.

You should have quit before Xmas.

NorthernLights5 · 01/01/2024 01:11

Not dreading it as I work all Christmas and New Year as I work in a care home so no break at all for us. A bit anxious though as I'm managing a whole new team (loads of staff handed their notice in in time for Christmas) so wondering about how it will all go!

dressedforcomfort · 01/01/2024 11:39

Yes. I don't actually hate my job at all. But 2023 was a tough year for our family and I'm still feeling pretty burnt out. Wish I could have a couple of months off tbh...

mogsrus · 01/01/2024 11:42

Can’t wait to get back, really bored with the time off now, roll on March

Hardtodothis · 01/01/2024 11:56

I definitely felt this way last year as I hated my job. This year is different. As much as I’d like to not to back to work and enjoy 10am wake ups every day there’s no dread.

For me, money isn’t worth that.

lemonyellows · 01/01/2024 11:57

Totally dreading it. I don't normally. I enjoy my usual job but seconded onto a pressurised project. Have loved the Christmas break....

DontGoGran · 01/01/2024 11:58

I'm not going back until February 2025 😂 but no, I'm not dreading it at all, I love my job and my colleagues (who I hope will still be there when I get back!).

minsmum · 01/01/2024 12:03

I love my job but I am dreading going back tomorrow. I will be 65 this year and only have 18 months to go until retirement. I am just so tired working full time and the job is very pressured.

RebelMoon · 01/01/2024 12:03

This was me last year. It was the first time I'd really dreaded going back to work. Then on my first day back I was headhunted by a rival firm. Much happier in my work now. You never know what's round the corner.

CeriB82 · 01/01/2024 12:06

Can’t wait to go back! Im only off tomorrow and Wednesday to stop my colleague from taking 2 weeks off. She takes the piss every Christmas etc so im off and she has to be in.

gingercat02 · 01/01/2024 12:09

I'm not dreading it, but I would rather not go back on Wednesday.
I like my job and most of the people I work with, but I have done 32 and a half years in the NHS, and in my head, that's enough!
I am going at 60 (5 years), but one of my friends retires in March at 54, and I am very jealous

Did you really book time off just to be spiteful to a colleague?

MagentaRocks · 01/01/2024 14:39

I am part time and find it so much easier to let the stress of my role go as I am not in as often. I work in emergency services so worked all Christmas and new year but have some leave coming up in a few weeks. Because I work shifts part time I have a decent amount of time off between working. I have no regrets. I could afford the pay cut and figured life is too short.

Snap! I'm having the conversation tomorrow and looking to leave in March.

I only need to give one month notice but consider it hanging my 'I don't give a @#$%' notice on my virtual office door. When I start refusing to do meetings at 6am and 10pm on the same day, it may inform people as to why. I intend work only my core hours until I'm gone. I'm sick of being exploited by lazy fuckers in other timezones who don't want to do unsociable hours
