Hi, I’m stuck with what to do! Wondered what everyone else is up to?
I know some people don’t like it. Feel like we need to do something to make it special for the children. Whereas I’d be happy to watch a movie at home and relax.
What’s everyone else got planned?

Oversight stay at a fancy hotel, dinner with a band and fireworks at midnight. My ideal NYE.

Oh wow! So lovely! That’s a few years off for me! But so lovely!

Chinese in my PJ on the sofa with a glass of water. No amount of water can quench the thirst of Chinese takeaway. Then bed about 10. DH and the kids will probably stay up as they never (well rarely) sleep before 12. Its a non event and always has been.

Poppysmom22 · 30/12/2023 17:34

takeaway nibbles film or two bit of wine and then loud music until the fireworks stop and my dogs can go to bed

nutsnutspistachionuts · 30/12/2023 17:54

Lemsips and sweating profusely.

Willyoujustbequiet · 30/12/2023 17:58

First foot, clootie dumpling and plenty of whisky.

DeadbeatYoda · 30/12/2023 22:35

Still debating what to wear to the front room for the big night, might not even go.

Never been a fan of NYE. I find it eery.

This year I am taking my son to the panto.

My best friend is on end of life care with cancer so I have no urge to be merry :(

Junegirl15 · 30/12/2023 23:39

Sorry to hear that @Cleanbedsheets
We are staying home and having a big roast dinner followed by board games and family games on the Nintendo and then a film. MIL still here so will be 6 of us. Will be nice and chilled.

VestaTilley · 30/12/2023 23:42

Staying at home with DS and DH, DPILs are visiting; we’ll go to church then for a pub lunch and walk to a National Trust place, before a nice dinner in the evening at home with a glass of champagne.

honeyfox · 30/12/2023 23:44

Nothing, maybe the Last Leg of the Year and a Bento box from the local Japanese place.

Not a massive fan of NYE (my poor brother's birthday as well).

Going out for an early dinner. Back home for Barbie and some games and wine. Trying to keep the cat calm with the fireworks!

Sadly BIL will text DH and make out what we are doing is crap and whatever he is doing is much better. Which will put DH in a downer. Whatever BIL is doing is equally crappy I imagine.

Off to see Pulp at Edinburgh hogmanay!

Change of plan - again! In a couple of days I’ve gone from not doing anything to going out for a curry with friends then back to doing nothing! The cold that I thought I started with on Boxing Day is actually Covid!

My sister began feeling poorly two days ago ( we spent Christmas Day together) and did a Covid test as she lost her sense of taste and smell, so I thought I should do one as well and yup, we’ve both got Covid!

I have looked up the NHS guidelines and there are none - no need to test, no need to self isolate, just treat it like a cold and don’t go into work or meet friends if you feel too poorly - not very helpful really! So maybe I ought to pull out of the meal, I can’t taste anything anyway but I was looking forward to some company as I’ve not left the house or seen anyone since Boxing Day as I live alone. I’m still full of a cold and coughing so I don’t think people will be happy to sit next to me anyway.

I checked the date on my box of tests and they are a week or so past the use by date but when I researched, it says that old tests are likely to give false negatives as the chemical in the test tubes deteriorate, not that they could give a false positive reading. I have quite a few boxes that need to be binned soon and as I don’t plan on paying for new ones, I guess I’ll never know if I have Covid in the future.

Change of plan,we're going next door 'for a couple of hours'.

Shutupyoutart · 31/12/2023 08:53

Taking kids to see wish at the cinema during the day, then this eve itl be buffet style dinner, games, and sparklers. We usually do count down early for the two littlest 4 and 6 and then get them off to bed oldest two are allowed to stay up til midnight, I'm already tired so don't know if Il make it myself 😂

@TurkeyTwizlers I do detest competitive BILs. For one night could DH’s phone accidentally “block” BIL and on perhaps 2nd January fix itself.
Comparison is the thief of joy! As everyone enjoys something different as seen on this thread.

Having Christmas dinner! We were invited out Christmas Day and had roast beef which was lovely, but will be having a more traditional meal tonight. Tomorrow we will have a big cooked breakfast as is our tradition.

ellie09 · 31/12/2023 12:22

I always stay in NYE!

When I was younger it was usually a house party. Now I stay in with my other half and enjoy a few drinks and some nibbles.

I was gifted some fizz so we had bought in some party food nibbles and plan to have these while watching Harry Potter.

However, I have been unwell and came down with norovirus yesterday so the fizz may be substituted for some tea and I may be in bed early!
