Hi, I’m stuck with what to do! Wondered what everyone else is up to?
I know some people don’t like it. Feel like we need to do something to make it special for the children. Whereas I’d be happy to watch a movie at home and relax.
What’s everyone else got planned?

We are going out the night before for a new Year's Eve, Eve celebration to have a lovely child free taster menu. NYE itself, log fire, some nice fizz, pizza, games with DD then once she is in bed probably cuddle up on the sofa with our books, looking forward to a really chilled one. Hoping to be out NY day with friends and their DC for a walk and a curry.

Hibernatalie · 28/12/2023 19:16

I've bought new pyjamas for the occasion!
We're going ice skating in the day, then in the evening when the kids are in bed I'll have a nice bath and pamper, and we'll order a take away and watch a film. Then look at the fireworks out of the bedroom window.

Question is - which take away and which film?!

Woahyeahyeahyeah · 28/12/2023 19:26

How much would I love to throw on a new dress, get all glam and hit the town for drinks and a boogie 🪩 But 3 DCs and no family or childcare to babysit, we will likely do what we do everynight - slob in our PJs with some snacks and watch TV! Might make it to midnight to watch the fireworks, if youngest DC hasn't had me up much the night before!

pinkfones · 28/12/2023 19:32

DH and I chilling out, some nice food (not sure if homemade or takeaway yet) and in bed/asleep before midnight because we'll be up at 6 with the kids the next day then back to work the day after that.

Would I like to go out and drink/party? No I don't think I would anymore. I'm much happier taking it easy!

PlipPlopChoo · 28/12/2023 19:33

Nothing. Dec 31 > Jan 1 means nothing more to me than June 7th > June 8th or March 2nd > March 3rd.

The only difference is I have to wait until gone midnight before going to bed or else I will be woken up by sodding fireworks.

I need to make a mental note not to flick the telly onto the BBC otherwise I will probably encounter that smug git Holland.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 28/12/2023 19:35

Basically a repeat of xmas eve, cheese, biscuits, nibbles and champagne. Will watch a film, play a board game with the kids and the adults will try to stay awake till midnight. The kids will absolutely stay awake until midnight.

Ohnotyoutoo · 28/12/2023 19:40

Kids in bed. Get dressed up, drink wine, eat food, Jools Holland, fireworks, have a good time, bed.

Go to the pub on New Year's Day!

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 28/12/2023 16:25

Crotchet and/or a jigsaw. Won't be staying up late though, I want to be up early on NYD.

I'll be in bed by ten.

merryandbrightdelight · 28/12/2023 19:47

Chinese and then tv in bed - same every year and I love it! Just another night for us

Browniesandcustard · 28/12/2023 19:55

@ScremeEggs thank you. Just dreading it tbh but I’m sure it will be ok.

dudsville · 28/12/2023 19:57

This probably doesn't count, but i don't like staying up late. I'm seeing my two oldest and closest friends, one for coffee and one for lunch. Then dinner with dh and a film and early to bed!

mrsbyers · 28/12/2023 20:00

Family Sunday lunch for nieces birthday then heading home and just chilling and watching tv with a couple of drinks. We are away in a holiday cottage for a few days and both ill so we are looking forward to getting home

GaudeteGaudete · 28/12/2023 20:01

Party with games, food and drink for 8 at a relative's house. All children in the family are now adults so it makes things easier. Some are staying at the house, others at a nearby hotel. New Year's Day roast meal and more games on the 1st. Many a previous New Year's was spent at home or just with one set of grandparents or the other, with some nice food and wine, telly on, children still up or in bed depending on ages - nothing wrong with that. Last time I went to a 'proper' New Year's Eve party not with just family must've been 20 years ago. Last time I went out to a nightclub for New Year's must've been 35 years ago (although I had my children quite young, so see above). I'd love to do New Year's with my partner, or partner plus my children, on holiday somewhere though.

Peckahminn11 · 28/12/2023 20:25

Going to a small village for drinks and food then to a pub. Nothing too crazy this year.

AllAboardTootToot · 28/12/2023 20:40

il be 32 weeks pregnant, il be sleeping for 10pm 😂😂

SocksAndTheCity · 28/12/2023 20:41

A walk in the afternoon to pick up a seafood platter ordered for later, then early dinner and another walk down to Waterloo Bridge to watch the fireworks (we have tickets 😀). Sherry trifle in bed afterwards.

New Year's Day parade the following lunchtime and then cinema at 3pm; I have tickets for two films and haven't decided which to see yet 🤔

Onesipmore · 28/12/2023 20:44

Late in lunch in nearby City, then home to an amazing cheese platter, decent wine, log burner and Tv. Kids old enough to be out doing their own thing.

SiennaMillar · 28/12/2023 20:47

Going to bed, unfortunately. I do love to watch the fireworks, but I have to be up early with baby, and I’m pregnant. I won’t survive the next day on 6 hours sleep!

DreamingInPhosphorescence · 28/12/2023 20:48

Cooking a meal then board games with the kids. Probably watching some music concert footage later on, it seems to have become a tradition. Very different to our pre-kids days.

Judellie · 28/12/2023 21:00

My birthday unfortunately but I think it may be the last birthday I have my mum. So more of a normal Sunday in that I'll collect my lot from church then take stuff to my mum's to cook a Sunday dinner with, then spend the afternoon with her.
No idea about the evening. Book, foot mask, surf the web? Doubt I'll stay up but the teenagers might.

WellWillWoll · 28/12/2023 21:23

Nothing.

For the first time ever, both DC will be out at parties and I'm on my own so will probably watch a film and go to bed.

worriedgal · 28/12/2023 21:28

Dh and I are off to a great hotel with a spa for the night as all our lot are grown up now and out with friends/ partners.
We can't wait!

Oversight stay at a fancy hotel, dinner with a band and fireworks at midnight. My ideal NYE.
