Hi, I’m stuck with what to do! Wondered what everyone else is up to?
I know some people don’t like it. Feel like we need to do something to make it special for the children. Whereas I’d be happy to watch a movie at home and relax.
What’s everyone else got planned?

Going out for a late lunch, then at night will be cheese/party food and wine, probably in pjs.

EwwSprouts · 28/12/2023 17:42

@widowtwankywashroom Fingers crossed very early stage.

CatalogueOnVinylFlooring · 28/12/2023 17:43

Friends and kids at ours for a few drinks and pizza for tea. But as the friends are mine, they will be drinking (the rules) so people normally only stay til 9ish so the blokes can get home and have a drink too.

@widowtwankywashroom Fingers crossed very early stage.

Thank you, I am not too worried, if it wasn't for the Dr feeling a lump/mass I would cancel it as all other tests are reassuring

Purplerain0505 · 28/12/2023 17:44

GPs offered to babysit so we’re off out with friends for a pub lunch and drinks, then heading to a relatives house for more drinks and a bonfire ready to see in the New Year. I’m really looking forward to it!

Out for a walk mid afternoon(weather dependent) possibly coffee and cake somewhere. Back home to relax. Picky tea with DH and Ds14. Ds will probably be online and me and dh will watch TV- possibly Rick Astley new ywar show, see the new year in, watch the fireworks , have a couple of drinks, then bed!

mondaytosunday · 28/12/2023 17:50

Ha will be about 40,000ft in the air flying across the Atlantic! If we were at home trying to stay awake til midnight after watching a movie.

Browniesandcustard · 28/12/2023 17:52

Watching rugby in the afternoon and then going home and waiting to pick up my 19 year old and her friends from a club. Not looking forward to NYE one bit as my now ex was caught having an affair a few weeks ago so I’ll be feeling shit about it all and he’ll be with his new girlfriend 😔

What is SL6?

Got the kids, my parents and some friends over to play Bagatelle which my Dad picked up from a jumble sale and mended and on NYE we are obsessed with it! 😁
Then a few hands of Newmarket followed by my piece de resistance crappy indoor fireworks that all get a HUGE introduction then spectacularly fail to excite, leading to much laughter. Especially the snake one which looks exactly like a huge turd. That’s what the kids love (and me!) Leftover bits plus some ribs and chips and plenty of fizz. I’m really looking forward to it this year!

ScremeEggs · 28/12/2023 18:23

Will be ordering takeaway and maybe playing some board games. (Not Monopoly, always ends in tears 😂)
Then watching the telly from around 11 to get the build up to the countdown to The Bongs and fireworks.
Can't be arsed with going out nowadays, definite sign of getting old lol

My relatives are buggering off on the morning of NYE, they've been here since 20th December and much as I love them I have Had Enough. DS1 has gone back to uni early with an essay crisis and DS2?will be out with his friends. DH and I are going to stay in with the fire on, a new jigsaw puzzle, the mountain of cheeses and other Christmas nibbles and some cheesy movies. I can't wait!

GreyCarpet · 28/12/2023 18:28

When my children were younger, I stayed at home. Now, my son is doing his own thing, my daughter will be at her dad's and my partner and I are going to our friends' pub for a night of ridiculousness and karaoke.

I wouldn't go to a big event or anything organised.

Crunchymum · 28/12/2023 15:36

Take away, film, fireworks on TV at midnight, bed.

Pretty much all we've done since we had DC.

Edited

Exactly this.

DoYouAgree · 28/12/2023 18:35

Black tie dinner at a fancy hotel for a friends big birthday/NYE except I've split from my original plus 1 so am going solo. Currently a bit nervous about being the only single in the group of us attending.

Decafflatteplease · 28/12/2023 18:36

Not sure about the daytime yet we were hoping to go swimming but it's closed.

We will do a pretend midnight with the little ones around 7pm, find some firework videos etc.

Then once they are asleep we have board games with the teens, we will get a Chinese takeaway while we play.

Then outside at real midnight 😂 with sparklers then bed!

Having a colonoscopy for suspected lower GI cancer!

That's literally shit but there are lots of good tips on the site for doing the prep.

We are going to try the new Hickory’s smokehouse and we will be in bed by 10! We don’t normally do anything but fancy a night not cooking so booked a table, we are all very keen to try it!

The Smokehouse Platter for one, with additional sides is perfect for two to share!

kingofchaosagain · 28/12/2023 18:55

At the moment we have the usual dinner and drinks at our place with my best friend and her husband. We alternate year to year.

However I've been ill for a couple of weeks now and thinking we might postpone this year and just have a quiet one.

troppibambini6 · 28/12/2023 19:04

We have four other families coming round with their kids for a take away and to see the new year in our ours.
We are moving in the new year to a full on renovation project so are taking advantage of our house (which is excellent for parties)

manipulatrice · 28/12/2023 19:07

Working. All night.

DrunkenKoala · 28/12/2023 19:07

Weather permitting I think I’m going to go for a walk along the river in the morning (it’s been a very stressful Christmas, not due to Christmas but Christmas hasn’t helped) hoping the riverside cafe will be open for tea and cake.

Home for lunch and then I’ll cook a roast for dinner for myself, DP, DS and DD. Aiming to get DD into bed for 9 and then if we still haven’t caught up on Death in Paradise from Boxing Day we’re going to watch that. DP can’t drink at the moment (on medication) but I may have a glass of baileys or two. Expect we’ll be in bed by 11 which is fine as neither of us are that bothered by NY. DS will probably spend the evening online with friends.
