Is it dirty?

Hi, i overreact many times for what is dirty or not, so i wanted to ask what you think. Does a shoe get dirty when by accident you touch a dog poop with the side of your shoe or point of your shoe (without stepping on it just touch). Are you disgusted by it then?

The ‘5 second rule’ isn’t a thing, either for dropped food or dog muck, so yes, I would feel my shoe was dirty and would clean them appropriately. We don’t wear shoes indoors anyway but the thought of those germs on my floor surfaces is disgusting.

Catza · 28/12/2023 16:21

I just wash it. "Disgusted" is a pretty strong emotion and I don't think I am that involved with the process.

EmptyYoghurtPot · 28/12/2023 16:26

I’d just wipe it on the grass and carry on walking to be fair. I’d check it was clean before I went in the house, maybe give it a wipe over with a wet wipe.
However, I grew up on a farm so my reaction to poop may not be normal!

ClottedCreamScone · 28/12/2023 16:27

Yes, I would consider a shoe dirty if it had touched dog poo.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/12/2023 16:29

Just clean it, no drama about it.

DappledThings · 28/12/2023 16:45

Dirty yes, but I wouldn't be disgusted by it. I'd just wipe it on the nearest bit of grass and give it no further thought.

I doo get irritated by people saying poop instead of poo though!

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 28/12/2023 16:51

Is there visible poo? If there is it needs to be washed/wiped if not then it’s fine and you can keep on walking. I don’t tend to lick my shoes and I take them off as soon as I get in the house.

Goinoutalone · 28/12/2023 16:54

All shoes are dirty once outside regardless of the presence of dog poo…

Goinoutalone · 28/12/2023 16:54

I mean they are technically dirty when you buy them too…thinking of how many people have handled them and tried them on I suppose

JingleSnowmanTree · 28/12/2023 16:57

I wouldn't think 'my shoes are dirty' but I would think the dog poo needs cleaning off my shoe.

DewHopper · 28/12/2023 17:05

Bizarre question OP.

ElevenSeven · 28/12/2023 17:06

I’d clean it, then move on with my life. No dramas.

Sounds like there’s a massive backstory here though

OP

If you are troubled by thoughts of coming into contact with substances of that kind, it might be that some talking therapy might be helpful for you.

I am assuming that you are in the UK.

I think all shoes are dirty.
I always take my shoes off when I get in the door.

If there was a bit of dog poo I would just wipe it off in the grass.

If it was lots then I would clean it properly.

I wouldn’t throw out a shoe or get worked up over it.

supersop60 · 28/12/2023 17:19

What has caused you to ask this question? Yes, dog poo on ones shoe is irritating, but you clean it off and everything is fine.

I'm not sure somebody needs talking therapy because they don't want to come into contact with dog shit.

Are you a dog owner by any chance? I think that owners and non owners can often feel quite differently about dog shit.

Missingmyusername · 28/12/2023 17:27

Why I don’t wear shoes in the house and the dog has his paws washed. Don’t want to take your shoes off- blue plastic booties 🤣it is! Or don’t come in.
Pavements and triads aren’t clean.

Missingmyusername · 28/12/2023 17:27

*roads not triads 🤣

Mischance · 28/12/2023 17:28

Just clen them.
People have dogs in their homes all the time with their shitty unwiped bums.

EmpatheticAgain · 28/12/2023 17:32

All shoes are dirty. That’s why you (should) take them off when you come inside.

Terrribletwos · 28/12/2023 17:36

Yes, dog shit is definitely dirty. I hate coming in contact with it. It absolutely stinks and is possibly dangerous.

I have no problem with mud and wear shoes indoors but when out a walk yesterday with a friend I absolutely insisted she thoroughly cleaned her boots before stepping inside...she'd treaded in dog shit.

RandomUsernameHere · 28/12/2023 17:38

Of course it is, what could be dirtier than dog poo?

Prelapsarianhag · 28/12/2023 17:39

It just wants a clean with a bit of disinfectant. Not disgusting, just part of life.

Terrribletwos · 28/12/2023 17:40

Dog shit or any kind of shit really. Who would think that's ok within your home?
