To be angry with DH and his greediness

headache · 27/12/2023 23:17

Every year this happens, DH loves food, DH eats lots and lots of food. He eats a huge Christmas dinner then keeps going to the fridge and eating the leftovers. Yesterday we had a buffet, he ate loads yesterday too, today he ate buffet leftovers and cooked up all the leftovers I hadn’t cooked. He’s now farting like mad and complaining he had a sore stomach. Next he’ll be complaining he’s put on weight and we will have the saga of him losing it again.

To be fair he is built like an athlete, runs and gyms most days so he can eat loads. But he has zero willpower over food, he eats really fast, so gulps down air then farts loads. He gets greedy so if they’re a tub of Pringles he wants to eat them all. I told him to go take some Deflatine and he says he can’t be bothered so I’m kind of glad he had a sore stomach.

I’ve also just started my period so I’m going to have cramps tomorrow so I am angry for no reason and if he farts on the night and annoys me I’m going to kick him to sleep on the sofas because right now I hate him.

Also, a muscular man who exercises daily is going to have a far higher calorie need than an inactive female or a child. Yes he should be considerate and share the food, but expecting him to eat like an elderly woman over Christmas when he has chosen to have a few days of indulgence is unreasonable.

If you " need" to consume so much food you feel ill as a result of eating it all then perhaps you need to start having your own stash. Not eat food that's supposed to be for everyone.

Ps- I'm sure many on this thread are gym goers and probably manage to do so without consuming the weeks dinner plan supply in one greedy session.

Expecting to have breakfast is hardly unreasonable. I wouldn't eat a mince pie for breakfast either!

Well maybe then he should have ensured there was bread in the house, or get off his arse and go and get some!

Octowussy · 28/12/2023 14:25

Does he leave anything for anyone else or is he one of those blokes you have to hide things from?

EarringsandLipstick · 28/12/2023 14:26

Why the aggression?!

That poster never said he wasn't prepared to go & get food.

blackpanth · 28/12/2023 14:40

I certainly don't leave the room if I need to pump Confused

She said she was whinging!!! Like it was her fault?

I don't see that as aggressive? Over-reaction much?

The absolute issues with food on this website.

People enjoying food = “revolting”

This.

It's pathetic!

Date to eat anything and your gross and greedy and it's simple disgusting.

It's hilarious and utterly ridiculous.

Or do they have stronger sphincters than the commoners?

😂😂😂

😂😂😂

Beautiful3 · 28/12/2023 14:54

Its greedy and sounds like he has zero self control. We've done snacks differently this year. I've asked everyone for their favourite chocolates and crisps, then told them to only eat what's their's. That way there's no mad rush to eat everything. It's worked really well this year, and we've managed to avoid buying extra crisps/chocs that noone really likes.

LaughingCat · 28/12/2023 14:56

I’n sorry, I don’t understand your post. Why are you upset? Has he eaten something you wanted? Or is it that it smells when he farts around you? We all have flaws and his is greed. Or impulse control, more likely. My DH has flaws but they irritate me - I don’t hate him for it. I have a huge number of flaws and I’m very glad they just irritate my DH and he doesn’t hate me for it as well. @headache…what’s the actual issue with your other half eating too much, bemoaning the fact he’s overindulged and then farting? Just sounds like him doing him.

Op. How’s your weight and fitness. Is any part of this envy that he is fit and a healthy weight and eats like this at times?

Interesting take on it, you're the first person (I think) to mention that angle in this thread

I can identify with this, I have to cut out all sorts of foods to lose weight and really focus and track my macros and my OH eats a horrible, massive beige diet yet is losing weight (just because he is eating less these days).

Its annoying.

porridgeisbae · 28/12/2023 15:10

I won't say he 100% can't help it, but some of us do find it harder to control what we eat than others. If some foods are around I'll eat all of them, not being hungry won't stop me. It doesn't even have to be something I wildly like, just a 'treat' food either sweet or savoury. Thankfully I don't get very farty.

You don't have to cut out types of food, just eat less calories than you use. Then you will lose weight, inevitably.

Some people do find it harder than others though, some keep hold of weight more. It helped us when we were hunter gatherers.

BustyLaRoux · 28/12/2023 15:15

Would this post be viewed differently if it were a man complaining about his wife eating so much? Talking about her stuffing her face and being disgusting in how much she eats?? Just wondering….

I just had this ‘discussion’ with DH about breakfast. He’s moaning that we have nothing in (only got back from seeing relatives late last night). I said I’ll make a curry at lunchtime and there are plenty of snack things that we bought home with us. But apparently he has to have breakfast and it has to be a typical breakfast thing, like toast. A mince pie will not do. He’s eaten enough to feed a small country in the last few days but is acting like me and DS are wierd because we are skipping breakfast!

You are the weird ones for skipping breakfast. I ate a massive Christmas dinner and then boxing day we do ham egg and chips, but on the 27th I still wake up wanting my normal breakfast.....I think most people do....

Thank you for your information but I think I know what works for me.

starynightskys · 28/12/2023 15:28

On the plus side at least theres less food waste in your home.

porridgeisbae · 28/12/2023 15:36

@bellac11 What you're saying is scientifically inaccurate. All that matters is calories when it comes to losing weight. Cutting out food groups is not a good idea, though reducing some high cal foods can make it easier.

@EmptyYoghurtPot Breakfast is a good thing, and not everyone can/wants to eat every type of food for breakfast. I'll have anything though. Smile

porridgeisbae · 28/12/2023 15:38

I only had one instance where a partners repeated farts were extremely unpleasant. He stank out the bedroom- I was holding the quilt over my nose to cope. It was after he had a pineapple fritter eating competition with someone.

I didnt say that calories dont count. I count my calories. I also cut out certain foods and ensure that include others and pay attention to my macros. I havent mentioned food groups, why have you introduced that into the conversation when I mentioned no such thing.

I am the expert on what works for my body.

EarringsandLipstick · 28/12/2023 16:15

@mayorofcasterbridge

Over-reaction? Perhaps you're referring to your own post 😀

Yes, I see 'get off his arse' (when it was never said he wasn't going to) as quite aggressive.

He was whinging. Maybe at the poster, maybe not. We weren't told. Why assume?

That poster had already said that she felt he should be ok to eat treats or mince pies for breakfast - which some of us don't think reasonable!

Absolutely. But a woman is allowed to do it. If a man does it, then it’s deeply unattractive.

Gardeningtime · 28/12/2023 16:47

mangochops · 28/12/2023 13:45

This would give me the ick completely. I love my food and enjoy it like everyone else but gorging/stuffing yourself until you have massive amounts of wind, farting and indigestion is completely unattractive- YUCK. That is utterly gross.

ah bless. You’ve never had indigestion, never farted, call the Guinness book of records you little medical miracle you.

HomiesAlone · 28/12/2023 17:18

I love how everyone here is non-human being (i.e
does not have a stomach that produces gas). 50% of adults in the UK are overweight or obese so strange so much judgment. And a lot of moral language about food. Very Victorian. No wonder eating disorders are rampant.
