Why can't you just dispose of evidence in the bin

I'm reading a thriller and the character done a murder and has destroyed her clothes by burning them. I feel like that would draw attention though. It wasn't the sort of crime that would be discovered immediately and the character wouldn't be suspected immediately either so I would have thought just putting them in the bin would be a good option really but nobody ever does that. Why not? Like surely once the rubbish van has come, and everything from the bins has been combined and smooshed down, there's no way any evidence would be recovered? Who's gonna dig through all that?

Yeah. Don't get rid of bodies if people walk their dogs on the vicinity. Dog walkers are like freemasons and dogs are nosy.

What's the first rule? No dogwalking nearby.

Second rule is probably dog related too.

Ironically, I found my first dogwalking human remains last week, walking on the beach. Got them on my boots too. Not murder though, just inconsiderate disposal. Please note that scattering someone's ashes means scattering them, not tipping out a pile of grey grit where it will set like cement. This was on a beach, tipped off the prom. It was a few days before the tide came up and took it away. Dog was happy, we walked further in the hope it'd clean my boots up and we found a dead fish as well.

I've seen many a crime series where police are searching the bin sites where rubbish is dumped!

Burning gets rid of any dna that may be found in the future.

I‘d hack up the body with the hacksaw we use for cutting up the Xmas tree, put it in a bunch of small separate freezer bags, put them in the freezer, then dispose of them one by one in the bin.

(Can’t believe I just wrote that)

For gods sake don't forget to label the freezer bags !!!

MikeRafone · 26/12/2023 20:20

pigs are the answer, they eat evidence

not using a car is also smarter

using cut throughs to move about as you then don't appear on cctv as much - cctv is on main access routes not cut throughs and rural lanes - knowing where pigs are housed and how to get there without using a car

not using your computers to search for anything to do with what you are doing - internet history is searched, including deleted history

This presupposes a very confident serial killer who lives by himself, or with conveniently oblivious family members or housemates, plenty of space and privacy for dismembering, storing and disposal of victims’ body parts (that is, if he killed them in his house — if he killed them elsewhere, then he’s possibly under pressure to get rid of evidence, weapons, bodies etc much more quickly).

There’s a PD James novel where the key piece of evidence that identifies he murderer is a bloodied hooded cloak put into a washing machine to get rid of evidence, but foiled by a noise-averse member of the community with a fanatical enforcement of the rules about washing machines running after 10 at night, who turns off the machine mid-cycle, thereby preserving traces of blood in the water.

What's the name of the PD James novel please?

Does anyone remember the case of a couple in Wimbledon (about 10 years ago) who thought it would be a good idea to burn the body of their murdered nanny on a BBQ in the garden, only, cos a dead body is a lot more meat than a couple of chops and packet of sausages, the neighbours got suspicious when the BBQ was still going strong a couple of days later and the whole neighborhood smelled of burnt meat ......

True story.

Yes reader, they was nabbed.

Anyway, just a free tip on how not to do it.

You're welcome

This! People are so stupid! Plus schedule a text or email, any outgoing communication for when you commit the murder, easily done on any android/apple phone

I watched The Met documentary looking for a murderer the other day. They couldn’t find evidence at first then found the victim’s distinctive coat in a rubbish dump where skips are emptied, along with the electric saw used to cut up the body. The skip was miles from the scene of the murder, police had tracked the murderer’s car on cctv through London. This is why you shouldn’t just shove things in the bin!

MikeRafone · 26/12/2023 20:35

police had tracked the murderer’s car on cctv through London.

this is why I suggested not using a car, they are much more easily identifiable on cctv due to the regulates or the make and model of the car

moving a coat or an electric saw by bike would be much easier after dark and through the local alleys etc then out of the area - away from cctv and leaving your phone a home

VisionsOfSplendour · 26/12/2023 17:49

But what about the electronic trial of getting there? Switching your off would be suspicious unless you are in the habit of doing that, CCTV? ANPR cameras?

How far do you live from the middle of nowhere, how would you know where to go?

It's easier said than done nowadays

Couldn't you just leave your phone switched on but at home?

ChihuahuasREvil · 26/12/2023 18:17

Wouldn’t you just soak it in cold salt water to get the blood out? I’ve never understood all this disposing of bloody clothing, why not just clean it? No blood to find if you’ve got it all out.

Drains, u-bends

Are you suggesting physically dragging a dead body along country lanes till you come across an unmanned pig farm?

I'm not having you in my gang.

I wouldn't be be taking my phone 😋 that's a rookie mistake to make

noooo. read the thread - the body is cut up and in the freezer labelled with boy part etc

so now you ned to methodically get rid of the body parts to the pig

As it happens I have knowledge of a nice big sow about 6 mies from where I live

I also no how to get there without being spotted on cctv cameras as there are a couple of cut throughs

Tastes like chicken.

Apparently.

Monkeytapper · 26/12/2023 20:55

If I was going to murder someone I’d do it the day before bonfire night with a gun (not got a gun but nevermind) the sound of it going off wouldn’t sound suspicious as people would think it’s a firework…then burn body on a fire, not sure who’s fire yet but I’d fine one.

done a murder

What awful English. You mean they committed a murder or committed murder

stomachamaleon · 26/12/2023 20:59

The phone thing..
The police will be just as suspicious if you are a regular phone user and you are a person who walks/ travels a lot.
I watched a police programme where a dealer was murdered by two customers. They had left their phones at home but the police could prove this was unusual behaviour for them and they never left texts unanswered.
So the phones were still their undoing.

Depends how many you're feeding, this time of year is perfect, Sunday roast dinner, Christmas day dinner, boxing day sandwiches, new years dinner, most people don't notice
