I feel ungrateful but also very disappointed. My husband is crap at gifting but this really takes the biscuit. I am a 53 year old woman and we have been together for 26 years. He bought me a periscope. Am I being unreasonable to be disappointed and ungrateful?😓

Just had another thought. I wonder if anyone has been treated to the 12 days of Christmas decoration offered on eBay for £699.99. It really would be a statement piece if so.

Do you mean a telescope? At least he has thought it was something you might like and bought it himself - mine always gets my DD to buy presents for me.

My aunt bought me (and other female relatives) a hijab each a couple of years ago. None of us is Muslim.

OP, it's not the best gift but honestly, this thread has made me laugh really hard the last few days. I lost my mum 6 weeks ago and Christmas has been hard but this brought me a giggle. I hope you find some innovative uses for the periscope 😊

You've done better than me: DH and I haven't bought each other gifts for years. The last time he carefully planned a thoughtful gift, I almost burst into tears - an enormous black office printer with 20-odd features I'd never use, to replace my dinky little cream-coloured printer that sat on the edge of my desk doing everything I ever wanted it to do and taking up much less space and looking much nicer.

Ex partner's grandmother once 'gifted' me two decorative bells with Charles and Diana on. This was 1996 and they were already divorced by that point.

I got wine..I don't drink wine! Biscuits and chocolates..I don't eat either!! For 10 years I have said please don't buy either, but my mum still does!!!

Get your revenge. Hide it somewhere well. When he asks suggestively if you want to try it (hem hem!) look confused. Let him explain, slap your forehead (lightly). "Oh I thought it was hand cream! I gave it to Jenny as she hadn't got any for Christmas and was out of it!"

My brother used to buy presents then ask to borrow them. He once bought my mum a very posh coffee maker. As she was unwrapping it he said "I know you won't use it so I thought I'd keep it at my flat". Shrug 🤷🏻

My mil bought me a hairbrush.. I have very very very curly hair..

My son used to be so thoughtful over presents, not really expensive, just real meaning behind them. Since he has been with his wife, I get shower gel. Yes, shower gel, she sends me links to gifts she wants me to buy the children and things she needs for the house, I'm so close to asking what shower gel her mother gets. If I don't keep my mouth tight, I'm sure she will hold back me seeing the children. Such a spiteful character.

The first Christmas with my boyfriend he bought me a vax machine....

At least it's easy to say "no I'll keep it at mine, it's perfect because I've been getting more into coffee recently." Probably won't get anything next year though.
