Worst Christmas present

I feel ungrateful but also very disappointed. My husband is crap at gifting but this really takes the biscuit. I am a 53 year old woman and we have been together for 26 years. He bought me a periscope. Am I being unreasonable to be disappointed and ungrateful?😓

I think I’d rather have a periscope. I got a box of biscuits which DH received as a gift and showed me at the time, which then sat in the kitchen cupboard for weeks. He took it out, wrapped it and gave it to me. Pathetic

Well I hope you called him out on it dreadful behaviour, just vile

Not me (I swear) but a friend got a bottle of 'intimate wash" from her partner's grandparents for Christmas. They had been together about 7 years at that point...

My DD and DGD both asked for deodorant products. One asked for Lume and the other, some special anti-perspirant because she does sports and sweats.

But, getting Summer's Eve or Vagisil wash would be past my abilities. I do have limits....kind of.....😎😆

I'd be doing impressions of sonar pings and maybe a few aye, aye Captain's for good measure. If he starts to irritate you say you are on silent running and then shout depth charge! I used to love the old submarine war films!

Thanks everyone. Maybe IABU. I might crack it out later to check the view from the skylight! Next year I think I'll suggest no presents to avoid disappointment.

We, very bizarrely, got a very heavy marble rolling pin with a wooden stand from our neighbours. They gifted our kids really amazing tech, so I'm hoping it was lurking at the back of a cupboard and has been regifted. I have absolutely no idea what I said to her to make her think it would be a good gift. I've got a perfectly good wooden on which is 30 years old and does for all my rolling needs!

What will you do with it?

I'm really lucky in that my family and I all have similar tastes, we all enjoy the act of finding thoughtful gifts without breaking the bank
My partner's parents do not enjoy buying gifts at all and don't like the same things we like. From October, my MIL was asking me for a list of things we wanted which I always struggle with - still, I got a list of small things together and actually started looking forward to some of them. Christmas day - vouchers. What was even the point in asking?

The fact the box is so proudly emblazoned that it's a periscope is adding insult to injury - as others said I'm now picturing OP looking round corners with it 😂 it looks like a proper vintage military one too

I'd be inclined to shove it somewhere if I only got naff gifts....

You wouldn't want to give somebody a heavy bludgeoning instrument that they could use on you if you regularly disagreed about parking, mowing your lawn too early on a Sunday or not taking your bin back in Grin
