When do you put the presents under the tree?

We’ve always put them under there on Christmas Eve night, so when DS wakes up in the morning he can say “he’s been!” And see all the gifts ready to open.
My parents did the same with us.

But a few friends put them under on 22nd/23rd and even before.

Just curious what others do really.

In our house tree presents are from other people, so they go under as they're given, usually in the week before. Stocking on the end of the bed & pillow case sized shack of gifts arrive in the night on Christmas eve.

Psychoticbreak · 24/12/2023 16:17

Never cos the dog would cock his legs to them. As kids santa left our gifts in our rooms and I have continued that tradition here.

Christmas Eve night

IAmAnIdiot123 · 24/12/2023 16:33

Tree gifts as soon as wrapped, living room on middle floor so not an advert to burglars. Santa doesn't bring everything here, just stockings.

Santa gifts in stockings (pillow cases) arrive overnight at the foot of dc beds.

SpongeBob2022 · 24/12/2023 16:41

Stocking in bedroom.

Presents all put under tree once DS in bed Christmas Eve, including presents from us, family and FC so that it has more impact in the morning. (Edited...although FC only brings his own presents)

In the build up we sometimes put presents for other people under the tree before we distribute them...just for somewhere to put them really.

CruCru · 24/12/2023 16:57

Growing up, we used to put presents under the tree once they were wrapped. Possibly because we didn’t have anywhere sensible to hide them.

Lovelydovey · 24/12/2023 19:02

Christmas morning - cos we have mice and I won't leave anything downstairs especially wrapped chocolates and food.

grayhairdontcare · 24/12/2023 19:08

The presents have always gone under the tree as they are wrapped from the first weekend in December.
Santa always brought the stockings

LuluBlakey1 · 24/12/2023 19:09

Last thing we do before we go to bed. They have been at PILs. Are now in my art studio since DH collected them about half an hour ago. We'll bring them through about 11-12 before we go to bed.
DS2 often appears at the sitting room door about 9.30 so it has to be late.

Oblomov23 · 24/12/2023 19:10

Put them under the tree as i wrap them, so many have been there for a week already.

Ambi · 24/12/2023 19:17

Late Xmas Eve once the kids are asleep.

StrawberryWater · 24/12/2023 19:24

Usually xmas eve night when everyone's in bed but this year they're under there now as I'm not going to have the energy to sort it out later.

SurreyisSunny · 24/12/2023 19:27

Usually put them under a few days before but this year have a new dog! We do stocking and Santa presents by the fireplace. Everything under the tree is from someone else (not Santa).

FunkyMonks · 24/12/2023 19:28

Christmas Eve night when my two are finally asleep I bring them down.

Mountainhowl · 24/12/2023 19:31

Christmas eve once they're in bed, they know tree presents are from us/family and have even seen some of them (wrapped) but seeing them all under the tree in the morning is still magical for them

ErrolTheRednosedDragon · 24/12/2023 19:32

We never did, because we had dogs.
And the tree is in the dining room, we open presents in the sitting room so we would have a pile there, with anything edible esp chocolate up on a bookcase.

KeyWorker · 24/12/2023 19:33

Gifts from family and friends go under the tree as they are delivered, so some have been under there for a couple
of weeks. Gifts from Father Christmas are put out just before me and DH go to bed on Christmas eve, usually midnight-ish.

I know some people go down the road of all presents coming from Santa but DD knows we buy gifts for friends and family and they buy gifts for her/us too.

DrCoconut · 24/12/2023 19:33

When the tree goes up just before the school holidays. I know people worry about theft but surely if you have blinds/curtains/nets burglars can't see in?

TrixieFatell · 24/12/2023 19:36

Family and friend presents are under the tree as and when we wrap them or receive them. We don't put Santa gifts under the tree, the kids have a red sack each which they put on the sofa for Santa to put the presents in

toomuchfaster · 24/12/2023 19:37

We've already opened ours!!

Daffyyellow · 24/12/2023 19:37

As and when they’re wrapped, presents are from friends and family. Father Christmas fills the stockings after bedtime on Christmas Eve.

ErrolTheRednosedDragon · 24/12/2023 20:12

Oh, and one year out dog left us a 'present' under the tree, twice... that definitely put the kybosh on stacking gifts there!

Hadalifeonce · 24/12/2023 20:15

When DC were young the presents appeared on Christmas morning, stockings by their beds, others under the tree. With a glitter trail to the front door, and half eaten carrots just outside.

TheChosenTwo · 24/12/2023 20:15

They just go under the tree when it’s up and as and when they’re wrapped so there have been presents under there for a week now.
My dc are 19,18 and 12 so don’t believe in Father Christmas anymore, but Father Christmas also only ever delivered stockings which were in their rooms.
Not worried about burglary, surely thieves would know there would be presents in the house anyway?
