Just because I'm revelling in my own misery.

DS has been up all night with his 3rd raging stomach bug of the month. I thought we'd got unlucky enough to have 2 floor the house but I'm now running on no sleep while he can't keep anything in either end. I am SO obsessed with Christmas Eve and Christmas.. I know it's little in the long-term but I'm just so gutted and absolutely terrified it's going to keep spreading through the house.

So give me something to distract me and tell me what has gone wrong for you for Christmas this year.

My daughter is sick and haven’t slept properly in days. I’m praying for a miracle that she recovers today and it can all still go ahead tomorrow.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 24/12/2023 13:34

@Isit2024yet I'm so sorry love. x

festivetinseling · 24/12/2023 13:37

Not a lot, except we never got the presents in the post for relatives' kids. DH and I both had covid so neither of us felt up to it, and then we missed the last posting date. Gifts still here, so we will have to post them next week.

PodgePie · 24/12/2023 13:38

DD is with her neglectful father & I can’t stop crying. He ruined the magic of Father Christmas for her by wrapping her stocking presents in newspaper last time & I am so anxious he’ll spoil this year too. I’m trying to focus on Boxing Day when she returns and we have our Christmas Day. Thinking of all those who are without loved ones (for whatever reason) this year xx

Ellaone · 24/12/2023 13:38

DD 5 has gone on about going to panto all year, she loves it, yesterday was the day we were all going. She came down with a vomiting bug and had to miss it, DS 9 has started chucking up today £50 deposit for family meal out tonight down that pan. Gutted for them but it is what it is, it’ll all come good 👍

Tacotortoise · 24/12/2023 13:40

Just waiting to find out.
Christmas 2020 - ds1 and I had covid
Christmas 2021 - ds2 had covid, ds1 hospitalised with anaphylaxis
Christmas 2022 - ds2 newly diagnosed w crohns disease and my dad was dying.
So I'm practicing nonchalance and waiting for the wheels to come off.

I've burnt the pudding for tomorrow and don't have enough ingredients to remake it

5 weeks pregnant with a much anticipated first grandchild in the family and not anywhere near ready to announce! Luckily no nausea yet but I'm going to have to be a bit creative with excuses for not drinking or eating all the brie. My DH and I have been trying for nearly a year so no doubt I'll have to share my pretend plans for seeing the GP for fertility support in the new year.

Congratulations!! 🎉

One Christmas hubby was in hospital an hour away waiting for a triple bypass so was travelling and worrying on Christmas day but he's all OK now. Last year I was rushed to A and E 4 days before Christmas with an infected gallbladder was given penicillin which am allergic to so was very ill but thankfully made it out of hospital the 23rd with a strict diet so no treats! This year so far fingers crossed its going OK!

Is it burned all the way through or can you use the unburned bits in Nigella's puddini bonbons? They're very popular and it's a nice bit of portion control and goes down well with people who normally don't like Christmas Pudding.

Christmas Puddini Bonbons

These are delectable little bonbons made by mixing up cooked and cooled Christmas pudding (see Additional Information below), liquor, syrup and melted chocolate, rolling them into small balls, then dripping melted white chocolate on them and arranging...

The dd we’re staying with tonight and tomorrow night (other dd is hosting) has a really nasty cold and will probably duck out of tomorrow. 🙁
Though let’s hope it is a cold, not COVID - we’re taking her a pack of tests, but 🤞. And some of the gammon I cooked yesterday, so she’s got something Christmassy to eat if she decides to stay at home.

Cwtshcwtsh · 24/12/2023 14:03

We lost my dad three weeks ago but I have two small DCs so we’re having a lovely Christmas for them because it’s what DF would have wanted.

My sister died of cancer yesterday leaving 2 children under the age of 6.

Not begrudging people being happy and having a lovely time with their families but as far as I am concerned 2023 can just fuck off. As can the “did you have a nice Christmas?” questions when I go back to work and “happy new year” bollocks.

Christ. Things like this put everything into perspective. Your poor family.

Dontcallmescarface · 24/12/2023 14:16

I got blue lighted to A&E on Wednesday night. Home now but it was a bit scary for a while.

thinkfast · 24/12/2023 14:16

We have a guest who is dog sitting staying with us. DD has had a bad allergic reaction to the dog so she and I are spending today and tonight and MILs. Dd is distraught as it's a really cute dog and she loves it. We've been up since 3am as she couldn't breathe last night.

Meanwhile guest has complained that she's really working for the £300 she's being paid to dogsit.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 24/12/2023 14:21

My Dmum had a stroke yesterday so will be spending Christmas in hospital. Dad is still coming for lunch tomorrow and then he and I will go and visit her. She absolutely loves Christmas and seeing all her grandchildren. Hopefully they are all going get in to visit her today and again on Boxing Day.

Tarkan · 24/12/2023 14:21

Flowers for everyone dealing with serious illness and loss. I'm so sorry. Sad

alwaysraining123 · 24/12/2023 14:21

So light hearted vs others. I accidently used chilli oil to make a highland steak pie rather than normal oil. I spent 7 hours cooking it before I realised. No one ate it, it was fairly
disgusting. Not the biggest issue though!

Scottishskifun · 24/12/2023 14:22

My dad died suddenly on Thursday 12 hours before we arrived.

Now in some weird twilight zone of my mum flipping between talking about stuff for a funeral which can't be arranged yet and conversations about stuffing......

WhatWouldHopperDo · 24/12/2023 14:22

So sorry @Isit2024yet . Sending hugs x

alwaysraining123 · 24/12/2023 14:24

Sorry everyone for their loss. My contribution was very trivial.

Peridot1 · 24/12/2023 14:24

So sorry for everyone who has suffered losses. @Isit2024yet I am so sorry. How awful.

justasoul · 24/12/2023 14:26

Not a patch on some of these FlowersFlowersFlowers
but my food delivery last night substituted my choc panettone with fruit panettone so I popped to the shop first thing today to get DD a choc one and someone hit my car in the car park Sad it’s old and all that but I’m so careful… I’m proper gutted.

67Namechange · 24/12/2023 14:29

Being told off by my husband for leaving an old chair in the garden and some stuff on the driveway which he's decided today would be ideal to take to the tip. Shouted at me that it's not fair I left it and the 'excuse' that I've been busy won't wash any more. He then walked dog muck through the house and on the hallway rug which he just took with him to the tip instead of attempting to clean it.

I've prepped a load of food for tomorrow whilst looking after 3yo and now 'D'H is in bed having a nap because he's recovering from a neverending cold. I desperately want a shower but can't have one because he's asleep.

I feel very overwhelmed by Christmas, would like to run away. Fed up of being called selfish and criticised for several things every day.

If it wasn't for the kids I'd be long gone.

Peridot1 · 24/12/2023 14:31

@67Namechange - make this the last Christmas you put up with it. Your children will be fine.
