I don't exactly know what one is either. This is my first time making anything that calls for a "flan tin" and I am apprehensive.

I've got as far as buying the ingredients and staring at them.

I'm common. Havent done a flan since 3rd year Home Economics in 1984. I'll bring the snout and maybe a bit of weed.

Good luck to whoever's smuggling the flan tin in.😲

Creme egg quiche sounds grim 😫 it's a challenger to Lang's Weetabix Banana Horror.

The difference between tortilla and fritatta, however, has always eluded me. I believe one always contains potato, and the other sometimes contains potato (can never remember which is which)

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn a tortilla always contains potato (and nothing else according to Spanish friends: no onion, no garlic, no herbs). Whereas a frittata can have anything in it that you fancy. I’m partial to roasted courgette, tomato and feta with a good sprinkling of thyme.

Yeah frittata is just a bit of a slut tbh.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 22/12/2023 00:01

I haven't, @nocoolnamesleft but would love to. Can you actually go in?

@TooBigForMyBoots <taps nose> silicone bakeware. Doesn't set off the metal detector, flexible but retains its shape.

Wait, what? I've never had tortilla (in Spain) or made it without onion.... I'm all worried now. It's otterly confusing.

So a crustless quiche has no pastry At All?

Not on the bottom?

DirtyDuchess · 22/12/2023 00:03

Beetroot and feta frittata. You'll all want to share my cell I'm telling ya!

It's been a good view years, so I guess things may have changed, but yes we went inside, I particularly remember tunnels uncovered all over the place. The guide told us that they had a terrible problem with dry rot, apparently because it was cultivated by the prisoners as a longterm strategy.

<whispers> I make mine with onion but I’m expecting to be hounded out of Spain on my next hol for admitting that.

Tacotortoise · 22/12/2023 00:06

So the tortilla and onion thing is extremely divisive in Spain. 50% say yes, 50% no (I'm not even kidding).

I swear I knew real people in Spain making tortilla with onion!

Large gamete based foodstuffs are awfully confusing...

No, it's a sort of keto version of a quiche. Or an omelette, depending on your purism.

Brilliant! I hope the police will wait until I've had time to pop to Lakeland.

Giggorata · 22/12/2023 00:08

i'm OK for a while, I think. There's only two police officers in Lincolnshire due to cutbacks (just one after six pm), so they'll be too busy with burglaries and assaults and that. Oh, wait…

Will we be able to see Dr Who on Xmas day in the recreation room?
I am also planning to get a blue tattoo.

Oops too late did I notice that my post had invented the Cream Egg quiche - in fact defined a quiche as having cream eggs inBlush Only the spelling is wrong, but still...

I did wonder when exactly the recipe for quiche had changed so drastically!

IT’S OK SIDEWAYS I HAVE SPANISH FAMILY WHO MAKE A DELICIOUS TORTILLA WITH ONION. IT’S LEGIT AND YOUR IBERIAN TRAVELS ARE SAFE.

Sunbird24 · 22/12/2023 00:10

@Giggorata they managed to rustle up a few extra for something on the A17 this afternoon, I had a massive detour to get home

Giggorata · 22/12/2023 00:12

Oh fuck, that's me then.

perhaps we can get Waitrose to deliver by drone…

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 22/12/2023 00:15

Yes, the dry rot is in one of the books - they cultured it in dowels and then stuck them into beams all over the places, as I remember. Also converted most of the plumbing into stills - but that was for more immediate and less strategic purposes.

Any chance of a Violet Crumble? I'm sure chocolate is brilliant for trading wherever we end up.

Absolutely. And I will need a large freezer for all the Golden Gaytimes ( Australia's fave ice-creams). Seriously. Although that could be problematic given all us women squished together in the clink . Could be misunderstood. Don't want all those men with wild thoughts about women in prison getting the wrong idea ( not that there's anything wrong with that). 😂

Giggorata · 22/12/2023 00:27

If I ever change my user name, that will be it. Violet Crumble.

ChubbyChinook · 22/12/2023 00:29

I think at 20mph it will take heddlu a while to round up the Welsh mumsnet contingent. I've packed some Welsh cakes and looking forward to a nice leek and caerphilly quiche.
