One year old - nappies that end up like this?!

At the end of my tether. Posted a few weeks ago but can’t link my thread. Ds is one and has had bad nappies on and off for a while. They’ve slowly got better as we cut out yoghurt and for a few weeks things were fine. He diet has not changed in any way in this time.

Again today he has been to the toilet and I have picked him up to change him and clumps of the contents of the nappy are all down his leg under his trouser. It’s not runny enough to be diarrhoea I don’t think but it’s obviously going everywhere and the nappy is definitely the right size. I know it probably seems like a small issue but we’ve had car seats ruined and clothes and carpets etc and I just can’t face this happening again. The gp has sent off samples and it all came back normal. Not allergic to anything we can find after months of trial and error. Is this just normal? To leak through trousers? Is this part of being a parent and I have to roll with it? I honestly don’t know if I am being dramatic, I really worry about hygiene so this is very stressful for me.

It must be an ill fitting nappy. Does he have bottled milk or breast? He could be allergic to the bottle.
Is he eating solids? Properly fitted nappy should hold in the poo.

Flyhigher · 15/12/2023 11:40

It's not really normal. If it's very runny yes it is. But if it's clumps. Not so much.

@Flyhigher honestly it’s not, I really don’t think it is? It’s size four and the ones with the tabs and he’s in the middle of the weight suggestion for the nappy

Which nappy are you using?

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:41

@Flyhigher pampers premium

Are you bottle or bf?

fairymary87 · 15/12/2023 11:41

Try a different brand of nappy, pampers pull ups work for us. Size 4 is small for a one year old. Maybe try 5 and just see. Sounds like the nappy is the issues

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:42

I am so stressed and fed up, having to clean the entire area of the house where it happened again today and there is no apparent reason for it

OP posts:
Flyhigher · 15/12/2023 11:42

Is he walking or bottom shuffling?

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:42

@Flyhigher only one bottle a day now

OP posts:

There will be a reason.

Circe7 · 15/12/2023 11:42

My DS was like this. GP said toddler diarrhoea. In retrospect he may have had some kind of food sensitivity but he did grow out of it at age 3.

Flyhigher · 15/12/2023 11:43

What does he eat?

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:43

@fairymary87 is size four really small for a one year old? Could that be it? The weight suggestion is in line with his size so I went on that?

OP posts:
Flyhigher · 15/12/2023 11:43

Is he quite tall?

BertieBotts · 15/12/2023 11:43

I've only ever had this happen when they are ill/explosive diahroea. No, it doesn't sound normal.

You might want to try elimination diets? And yes you could try a size bigger or a size smaller nappy - the weights have not really been accurate for when they fit mine, but it sounds more like the poo that is the problem, not the nappy.

Does he take any medication/vitamin supplements?

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:43

@Flyhigher he does have some baby ready meals if I am busy which obviously are more mashed up. But I also do chicken, avocado, banana, cereal, toast, eggs, etc

Satsscores · 15/12/2023 11:44

This doesn't sound right to me, Ive got three kids and a leaky nappy is pretty rare at this age.
I'd try different nappies for starters, has he got skinny legs? Might need a tighter fit, but I'd want to investigate allergies further. Has he had a coeliac test?

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:45

@Flyhigher yes very tall for his age, always over 90 percentile, and 80th on weight. But I’ve just double checked the weight suggestion on the nappy packet snd it’s saying size four is right for that?

OP posts:
Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:46

@Satsscores not skinny but he’s very tall so also not chubby. @Flyhigher is suggesting a larger nappy I think, but are you saying smaller? I will try anything

OP posts:
Flyhigher · 15/12/2023 11:46

One of those things is setting him off. Is the chicken really cooked through? Could be the cereal or avocado.

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:47

@Flyhigher i don’t think it is though as we’ve had weeks of it being fine too and the diet hasn’t changed :(

My son’s about 13kg and he went into size 5 pull ups just shy of him hitting 12kg. The weight range for them is 12-17kg. I would buy a small pack of size 5 and give them a go. For us leaking is usually the first sign that we have to go up a size and he’s always been in nappies where he’s hitting the lower weight range of the size.

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:48

@Flyhigher he has the cold chicken that’s already cooked from the supermarket and has it cold

Babystressf · 15/12/2023 11:48

@Junebug22 thanks, my worry was that wouod be too loose and be worse but I am at my wits end
