One year old - nappies that end up like this?!

At the end of my tether. Posted a few weeks ago but can’t link my thread. Ds is one and has had bad nappies on and off for a while. They’ve slowly got better as we cut out yoghurt and for a few weeks things were fine. He diet has not changed in any way in this time.

Again today he has been to the toilet and I have picked him up to change him and clumps of the contents of the nappy are all down his leg under his trouser. It’s not runny enough to be diarrhoea I don’t think but it’s obviously going everywhere and the nappy is definitely the right size. I know it probably seems like a small issue but we’ve had car seats ruined and clothes and carpets etc and I just can’t face this happening again. The gp has sent off samples and it all came back normal. Not allergic to anything we can find after months of trial and error. Is this just normal? To leak through trousers? Is this part of being a parent and I have to roll with it? I honestly don’t know if I am being dramatic, I really worry about hygiene so this is very stressful for me.

Are you changing him immediately after he does it? With mine I had to get them changed before they changed position. Any sitting or squatting etc would lead to a leak.

Other than that does he wear button vests? I would put one of those on, but be sure it's not tight, just enough to hold the nappy on. If too tight can squeeze the contents out.

Another suggestion is start potty training. You can train for poos within a few weeks of birth, so he's well old enough.

Also, carpets are obviously tricky but if you rinse pooey clothes in cold water within 24 hours then wash as normal it will come out. If you leave longer there may be a stain but it will bleach out if you hang outside for a few hours as UV light breaks it down. So no need to throw clothes away.

Sounds like the dodgy tummy and the nappy fit are two separate issues. We could never get pampers to retain anything but found the rascal and friends ones from Tesco were bomb proof and we had spectacular poos because of allergy formula. 🤢 Even if you could get a nappy that would contain it while you figure out what is going on with his tummy that would at least mean less cleaning, so I really hope you find one that works!

It's a nappy type thing I agree.

Mine only got ones with Lidl. Everyone raved about Aldi, did not work for mine.

First child, I absolutely followed size guide.

Second child, I followed it until one day I ran out and both then went into size 6 pull ups with no issues.

Hi OP,

My baby is 1yo also and a bang average weight. He is in size 5s / 5+s. I’d try the following:

  • Try going a size up in nappies
  • Try a different brand - the bamboo nappies (MamaBamboo / Cheeky Panda). Quality wise they are fantastic, but sadly that means much more expensive
  • Try two nappies! When we are going through leaky nappy stages, we just put on two. Usually one ‘normal’ one with the tabs, and then a pull up one over the top

good luck

try a size 5. Try aldi's -you'd be surprised.

Skinny legged kids here and we rarely used Pampers.

Tesco was #1 for us but it's been a few years since we used nappies.

Hi, my son had this, also clingy and losing weight. He was diagnosed with coeliacs. Worth doing the questionnaire on the coelaics uk website.

My 7 month old is in size 4 pampers and she's average size, maybe try a size 5 and see how it goes? I personally like nappies to be a little bigger as in covering their belly button as I find it stops poonamis!

Make sure all the ruffles are facing out

@Flyhigher pampers premium

We found pampers useless after newborn stage- asdas own brand were by far the least leaky.

Zanina · 15/12/2023 23:15

Hi I would say size 5 sounds too small. Ig you ever compare nappy brands, the same size nappies, you may find that some of them are shorter / or longer in length. Asda and lidl nappies were fantastic for us. Pampers kept leaking for us. I found asda nappies to be more flexible than lidl ones. But thing was, with my son who was a bit short and chunky and needed more changes, lidl nappies were very good. For my daughter, she's is more taller and slimmer and I found that asda nappies were better for her and they were more flexible and longer in length. Wishing you all the best x
