To wonder why the queue for the ladies toilets is always longer than the mens?

Today queuing for the toilet in a shop this is my observation and in general I notice it too.

The ladies toilet has a massive queue. The mens toilet has no queue.
Men are in and out of their toilets much quicker.

Do women go to the toilet more often than men then? 🤔

I honestly don’t understand what some women do in a toilet cubicle. I think some have a little nap they take that long.

😂

BlueberryVelvet · 13/12/2023 21:03

Judging by what my DH says, the vast majority of men don’t wash their hands.

ThePoshUns · 13/12/2023 21:05

Are you a woman OP? Have you never figured it out?

BlueberryVelvet · 13/12/2023 21:11

Female urinals will never happen because we need to remove so much clothing to pee.

ttcat37 · 13/12/2023 21:13

Women spend forever in the toilets. I take the same amount of time as my DH when we both go to the loo at the same time and there’s no queue.
But if there’s a queue in the ladies it seems like 75% of the cubicle doors remain locked whilst the other 25% are servicing those in the queue. I don’t understand what women are doing in the toilet so long.

PaperSheet · 13/12/2023 21:22

I used to be someone who was in and out instantly and had no idea what others were doing in there. I then had a miscarriage and experienced the heaviest bleeding I've ever had. I must have spent about 5 mins just sitting on the loo and 5 mins trying to clean up the mess. I'd never seen anything like it. Unfortunately it happened while I was at an event. And there was only about 6 toilets. So I'm sure I held up the queue a lot in the interval but there was nothing I could do.
I'd always been lucky with relatively light periods so that was never an issue. But now I can appreciate what women with heavy periods have to go through. Obviously this isn't why all women take so long but it will contribute to it.

I would really love to do some kind of experiment on this!

Take the same number of men and women. 1) Put them in a queue for restrooms that have an equal number of cubicles. No urinals.
2) Put them in a queue for restrooms where the men have only urinals and the women have the same amount of cubicles.
3) Put them in a queue where the restrooms are a standard layout (i.e. men’s have more facilities than women’s)

It would be interesting to see the true differences when you take out the faffs of real life. Also, men may be more likely to actually wash their hands in an experiment so it would take that factor out too!

happyinherts · 13/12/2023 21:29

This really does put me off going out for any length of time. What on earth are women doing? You can't include washing hands, applying lipstick, make up, etc, because those aren't carried out in the actual cubicle. Queues to actual cubicles are crazy in the women's toilets. You have to queue up half hour before you really need to go at stations these days!

Ablondiebutagoody · 13/12/2023 21:32

According to MN its because the ladies is full of men indulging their fetishes, thus leaving the men's toilet empty

pavillion1 · 13/12/2023 21:32

im in and out in under a minute, i cant stand smelling other peoples urine .

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 13/12/2023 21:34

The problem basically is that people have been defining 'equal' as the same amount of space.

Rather than looking at what women need and then giving the facilities which would meet women's needs to a comparable standard that men's toileting needs are catered to.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 13/12/2023 21:35

Women just fanny about (pun intended)

It's so annoying, why do they faff so much? Just get in, get on and get off. I take as long as my DH, why sdo some women take soooooo long? 😡

Read the thread. There are a whole ton of reasons why women take longer that don't qualify as "fannying about" including the fact we have to get undressed to pee rather than just unzipping, we have periods that need attending to, sometimes very very heavy periods that then go through clothes, we are also more likely to be incontinent due to pregnancy and childbirth. I can take a long time in the loo for all of those reasons plus I have IBS to add into the mix and now, because of my age, I have problems wiping and it takes fucking ages. Apparently (according to my urologist) that's another thing that happens due to age that no fucker tells you about.

Think yourself lucky that you (presumably) don't have to contend with all of the above!

ANightingale · 13/12/2023 21:45

Obvious - quicker to unzip, whip out cock, pee and zip up than it is to go into cubicle, lock cubicle pull down trousers/tights and pants etc. wee, wipe and reverse.

ColleenDonaghy · 13/12/2023 21:45

Chicaontour · 13/12/2023 17:58

  1. Mens toilets usually have urinals which are quicker
  2. In addition to going to the toilet, women menstruate which also adds to the time
  3. Women typically have more caring duties with younger or older people
  4. 50/50 share of the toilets isn't fair for the above reasons

In a nutshell.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/12/2023 21:50

I wrote a massive long post but lost it then @Chicaontour said most of it more succinctly. I’d also add in that women are disproportionately more likely to suffer from continence issues.

So the legal requirement to have the same floor area for men’s and women’s toilets is a direct example of the difference between equality and equity.

RobertaFirmino · 13/12/2023 22:52

This is such a ridiculous question. I'm not entirely sure it's being asked in good faith tbh.

SemperIdem · 13/12/2023 22:57

It doesn’t take as long to flop out a flaccid penis through a zip hole to pee in a urinal as it does having to unzip, sit and wee? Never mind the additional time changing sanitary products takes?

Is this a serious question being asked by an adult woman?

happyinherts · 13/12/2023 22:59

It's a perfectly normal and relevant question. Have you ever been dying to go, bursting at the seams, and then experienced the queues at the ladies. Your spirits go down to zero. You consider presenting as a male or wetting yourself. In fact, the latter is probably why there's a lot of women in there - they have to change clothes. It's a real problem when out and about - especially shopping centres and stations.

SemperIdem · 13/12/2023 23:00

Oh and also - it is women who take children to the toilet in public toilets 9/10 times, so that will cause additional wait time because both will be using it.

Cheshiresun · 13/12/2023 23:05

Young children, male or female are usually taken to the ladies, I've often seen this in comparison to the men's, where young children are not taken there much.

Also most women do wash their hands, on occasion I do see some who do not, whereas DH said the amount of men who don't wash their hands after being to the loos is astonishing.

Not to mention personal issues/reapplying lipstick/make up/making hair look okay, etc. Although sink activities after the loo wouldn't affect the availability of the cubicles.

Cheshiresun · 13/12/2023 23:07

On a night out a friend needed the loo and wasn't prepared to wait in the long queue at the ladies, so went to the men's instead. To her horror men peered over walls from the cubicles next door laughing and jeering at her!

TerribleWoman · 13/12/2023 23:14

90 percent of the time a woman is in the cubicle of a crowded toilet with a queue, she is actually waiting for the cistern to refill enough to flush adequately. If you flush too early and the wee and loo paper doesn't disappear, just turns over lazily, then you are back at square 1 waiting for that cistern.

Fizbosshoes · 13/12/2023 23:16

I can't understand how any women is surprised about the fact there are (generally) more women queuing for toilets with some minor exceptions (sports matches, rock concerts etc)

Apart from anything else men's physiology means that it's easier to go quickly, so they can and do wee in places that are not toilets.... (Hard shoulder of a motorway/trees, bushes, alleyways peoples front garden) ....so when they arrive somewhere with toilets they might not have the same need!
