Whamageddon - out? (Lighthearted but annoyed!)

DibbleDooDah · 12/12/2023 10:13

DH is annoyed because he was Whamageddoned on the morning of 1st December. I have so far escaped and am thankful to the radio station I listen to for giving a warning before playing it.

Sat downstairs minding my own business and husband comes running downstairs with a portable speaker playing it just to get me out.

I have said I’m not out because it’s supposed to be random luck of the draw type thing, and he has forced the music on me.

AIBU to say I’m not out?????

YABU for participating in Whamageddon, which truly represents the worst of UK 'banter'.

Fluffyowls · 12/12/2023 10:41

I like Wham and would happily listen to the song all year round. If being forced to listen to it doesn't count, why do people screech at me not to play the song? Based on your logic, I should just play it and they can claim I forced it upon them so they're still in the game but they don't allow this so it obviously does count.

It's a poor game anyway as you're missing out on a good song.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 12/12/2023 10:47

I got "got" on 29th November at a Christmas craft fair. I figured I could now play it without an issue in the car and get everyone else!!

It only starts from December 1st.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 12/12/2023 10:48

Might seem trivial in the grand scheme of things but how bloody spiteful! If I can't win neither can you, what is he, 5?

Set your alarm on the 1st Dec next year to Wham, that way you're both out and he doesn't get to be a knob about it.

I was Whammed on Sunday, it was a good innings 😆

AhBiscuits · 12/12/2023 10:50

You're out I'm afraid.

HurdyGurdy19 · 12/12/2023 10:53

No. You're still in. One of the rules is that you can't deliberately Wham someone. Your DH was being sulky, and therefore it doesn't count.

(I'm not playing, but I do listen to Absolute Radio, and subliminally appear to have picked up the rules 😀.

And I'm still in !)

PuttingDownRoots · 12/12/2023 10:59

I thought the whole point was accidentally hearing it somewhere.

I got caught in public toilets.

takealettermsjones · 12/12/2023 11:02

Nope, you're still in, and he's an arse. You need to get your own back somehow. Hide his slippers? 🤣

I got Whammed last week just after I'd been saying "I'm still in!" and it was my own playlist! Hoisted by my own petard. Still annoyed.

NonPlayerCharacter · 12/12/2023 11:03

I lost while helping out at a local charity Christmas fayre. No good deed goes unpunished!

NonPlayerCharacter · 12/12/2023 11:04

Oh, and no you're not out - that's deliberate sabotage. The point is to avoid hearing it incidentally.

CremeBrunette · 12/12/2023 11:11

Well you’ve heard so you’re out. I don’t think it matters whether it was deliberate or accidental. Good news is you can play it and belt it out full blast.

However, your husband is a spiteful shit. It’s just really mean-spirited. Is this a regular occurrence?

NonPlayerCharacter · 12/12/2023 11:15

Oh no, I have bad news.

According to whamageddon.com, that does count as an out. But it's also against the spirit and intention of the game and if it's officially an out, your husband is officially a dick.

I don't see how the game can really work if that's not prohibited. Anyone could just play the song at someone at any moment and it just takes all the fun and purpose out of it.

Yes, I lost the Game too as soon as I lost Whamageddon...but I wasn't going to say it!!!!

Taking everyone with me 😂

Fluffyc1ouds · 12/12/2023 11:34

Not cool! I Whammed myself yesterday by putting on a Christmas playlist I made last year. I'm such a fool. The radio then played it twice during the day so that was that.

ChessieFL · 12/12/2023 11:35

Last year and this year they have played Last Christmas at DD’s school Christmas concert. I’m sure they do it on purpose!

George would be proud.

maddiemookins16mum · 12/12/2023 11:55

Well, we are singing it as part of our Christmas list at Choir, I’ve been ‘out’ since September 15th.

Only the original version and only from December 1st.

LlynTegid · 12/12/2023 12:16

You are out, but it was unkind. I was out on Monday when passing a shop and the doors were open.

newtlover · 12/12/2023 12:20

glad someone posted the rules as I wasn't sure if a cover version counted
they played it in Poundland, a female singer, it was awful

NonPlayerCharacter · 12/12/2023 12:22

Cover versions are fine.

You're also not out until you recognise it, which is interesting. I guess you can't play if you don't know when you've heard it.
