Whamageddon - out? (Lighthearted but annoyed!)

DH is annoyed because he was Whamageddoned on the morning of 1st December. I have so far escaped and am thankful to the radio station I listen to for giving a warning before playing it.

Sat downstairs minding my own business and husband comes running downstairs with a portable speaker playing it just to get me out.

I have said I’m not out because it’s supposed to be random luck of the draw type thing, and he has forced the music on me.

AIBU to say I’m not out?????

I had to look up Whamageddon as not heard of it until now.

Can we do it with Mariah Carey instead? It's the most over played Christmas song and I could do with not hearing it again for a few days!

I haven't heard anything I didn't subject myself to (hermit). I agree it is the worst of uk banter, along with platty jubes. The worst of the UK. Reminds me of the awful uk subs on reddit and the sarky superficial humour on gogglebox.

There's a certain smugness to British humour that makes my skin itch

Coolstorysis · 12/12/2023 16:09

It's almost like you lost the game.

As far as "the worst of British banter" goes, it was started by a Danish guy.

Of all the shit this country has inflicted on others, and its own people, you really think that a light hearted radio joke is “the worst of the UK”?

Merry Christmas to you too!

Irrelevant really, the fact that UK people think it's hilarious is the worst of British "banter".

That DJ having to apologise after playing it at a football stadium (or indeed playing it in the first place to try and be funny) pretty much sums it up for me.

MalcolmsMiddle · 12/12/2023 17:38

I thought you couldn't Wham someone deliberately? That was what I heard on the radio anyway so I'd say not out.

I work in a school some days so was out on 7th as there was a concert rehearsal.

Top work by this DJ though!

Wham

Whamageddon: DJ sorry for playing Last Christmas by Wham!

Matt Facer apologises for potentially eliminating 7,000 from a game in which players avoid the song.

And I'm out.

Fuck you, Spotify!

Aintgointogoa · 12/12/2023 21:03

@southwestmom I muted Insta as once there was a cover version a week or so ago....my friend and I are still in 😹But now I have thought of The Game too, sooooo....

@MermaidEyes yes I think he would be !

DibbleDooDah · 12/12/2023 22:52

It’s all kind of irrelevant now because I heard it just a few hours later in the restaurant we were eating in 😂😂😂😂😂

He’s honestly not a dick, knob or spiteful child and it was all done in good humour. If only he’d waited just a little longer it would have happened naturally.

Good Luck to all those still in the game.

Does it count if its on as part of a radio ad? Totally out on the first day this year.

Damn you local radio! I hear it multiple times a day!

QueenBean22 · 12/12/2023 22:57

haha You’re all a funny and edgy 😅🙄

XenoBitch · 12/12/2023 22:58

There is a rule about PvP.. where you can't Wham someone else on purpose.

I am out (a local cafe was playing it).

Apparently, 7000 footy fans were furious after a DJ in a football stadium Whammed the lot of them.

LastYearsChristmasStamps · 12/12/2023 22:58

It’s just a game of chance. It will be a rotten outcome if whamageddon leads to fewer people playing the song.

Wednesdayweekday · 12/12/2023 23:02

I got whammed on the way to a lifeboat job last week, which was even more annoying because I’d been at the station only an hour earlier! Why couldn’t the shout have happened then?! I was doing so well 😩
