To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

This is the reason I barely go to the cinema these days. A film lasts 2 hours tops, why can't people eat and drink before (or after) the film. Just sit and watch without rustling, slurping, crunching, munching and stinking out the place with junk food 😤

I agree. Can't understand why people find it impossible to sit and watch a film for 2 hours without having to eat and drink. Maybe if they didn't drink they also wouldn't feel the need to keep going to the loo. Something wrong if you can't manage 2 hours without needing a wee and, if you have a weak bladder, sit on the bloody end of a row so everyone doesn't have to stand up for you to go in and out

I've never seen that, no. I don't think ours sells anything like that, just popcorn, drinks, and packaged snacks. I would just eat dinner before or after, I don't see the point of eating in the cinema in the dark, than than sharing a bag of minstrels or something, I'm trying to watch the film!

Small hangry child + a happy meal

Not an entire family McDs blow out.

I'd feed the child beforehand, particularly my four year old. A small child eating in the dark isn't a good idea.

lap90 · 09/12/2023 17:24

I'd be fine with it tbh. My local does a bunch of overpriced hot food

I love this thread.

It's not really that people find it impossible to not eat and drink, It's that people WANT to eat and drink. It's part of the cinema experience for lots of people.

OP explained there were time constraints.

McDonald's 🤢. The smell must have been awful for the other people

I would hate it.

KnittedCardi · 09/12/2023 17:25

Another one here who detests smelly food, rustling food, sucking drinks. There is definitely a niche market for non-food showings. I go mid afternoon, for this very reason, a few elderly folk with teas and coffees. Much nicer.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 09/12/2023 17:25

I would notice and would wish I was not siting next to you if you were seated next to me. If you can sit away from others it's not so bad. But I would not say anything to you about it at all. I would just put up with it, but I would be aware of it. To be fair though there are many things at a tea time showing of a chiildrerns film that I might have to endure. Your food would not be the only one.

Backtomyoldname · 09/12/2023 17:25

50+ years ago my Mum would send us off to the cinema with an ice pop wrapped up in newspaper.

It's only McDonalds ffs!!

How do you cope in a restaurant???!

People have been eating and drinking in cinemas since time immemorial!!

If you can't see a difference between eating in an actual restaurant with all the associated background noises and smells that experience entails and eating in a quiet cinema then there is not much hope for you.

BringMeTea · 09/12/2023 17:28

So so many reasons I don't go to cinemas anymore. Boak.

Homesweethome23 · 09/12/2023 17:28

Would often take a happy meal in to the cinema with us when mine was younger, and use to see many people doing the same.
Bothers me more when people go on their phones throughout the movie then the smell of a mc Donald’s burger.

Excuse me, but the it's the gagging, retching, heaving, dying brigade that we must hold out hope for.

The smells.

Catslovenip · 09/12/2023 17:29

McDonald’s is a unique smell which a lot of people find revolting. I personally wouldn’t do it OP.

SgtBilko · 09/12/2023 17:30

fussychica · 09/12/2023 16:16

This is why I never go to the cinema anymore.

Same here.

You missed off "gobbling up"....gobbling must always be used when referring to Mc Ds

😂😂Always!

CheshireCat1 · 09/12/2023 17:30

I don’t see an issue with it.

I'd take a sandwich for my child for the car, or cinema if need be.

adventadvent · 09/12/2023 16:05

It's not illegal to take your own food into the cinema

But they carry on like it is.

PuppyMonkey · 09/12/2023 17:33

Is it just McDonalds that’s literally the worst smell in the history of world, or would OP be okay with KFC or Pizza Hut? Nando’s? Wink

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 17:34

Best to RTFT.

soemptyinside · 09/12/2023 17:34

I was going to say the OP shouldn't bring in hot smelly food... but if it's a cinema that sells hot dogs (Cineworld?), I'm not sure it matters.

mydogisthebest · 09/12/2023 17:00

That's why me and DH will never go to an Everyman cinema. Hate people eating in cinemas and theatres.

Years ago we used to go the NFT on the South Bank at least twice a week and no food or drink was allowed. It was great.

I really don’t know why people keep mentioning Everyman. You know what the deal is there, so you’ll either avoid it or actively choose it for the experience. It’s not the same as wanting to see a film for its own sake and then being distracted with food smells, noise and so on.

I’ve never been, but I think I’d enjoy Everyman as I’d have a meal myself. I wouldn’t enjoy smelly hot food or other distractions if my main purpose is to see a particular film I’m really interested in though.

This is why I avoid mainstream cinemas these days. The more obscure the film, I find, the more people are going to see it and not for an all-round entertainment experience. The audiences are also much less likely to be up and down and fidgeting as they’re focused on what they’re watching.

Please don't be so LOGICAL.
