To sneak McD's into the cinema

fr4zzledmum · 09/12/2023 16:03

Going to a tea time showing tonight - McD's is right next door to the cinema so was just going to buy DC a Happy Meal and pop it in my bag to eat when we get in there.

Cheaper than a hot dog at the cinema. I don't think it's particularly a bother smell wise, as people have nachos and hot dogs etc.

AIBU?

Would now be a good time to mention that a cinema not too far from us has dog friendly showings? That seems to really bother some people. They get really worked up about smells and dog hair. Next time we go with the dogs, I might take a McDonald with us, they love a burger as a treat. 👀 🤣🤣🤣

I would bloody love taking my dog to the cinema and having a cinema full of dogs 😍

Georgyporky · 09/12/2023 19:12

Smelly food is one of the reasons I've stopped going to the cinema.

stillholly · 09/12/2023 19:20

You are allowed to take cold food and drinks

Not hot food which might smell

Holy shit really???

So does mine.

Which cinema says this?

sunglassesonthetable · 09/12/2023 19:29

Have genuinely never ever seen a sign saying you couldn't take food ( be it hot or cold ) into the Cinema.

Talking the obvious ones Odeon, Vue, Cineworld.

My local cinema has these too. But they are flagged as special showings. You can’t bring your dog to normal showings.

There you go OP, we've escalated to assault 😂

It really has escalated in the space of one Disney movie 😂 Well everyone can unclutch their pearls, as we ate in the car park while the trailers were on.

Perhaps just eat something healthy instead. Or if you care so little about your DCs diet, do so before the film.

But I'm fattening her up for Christmas.

But films don’t actually start until a good 20 minutes after the listed start time, because of all the ads and trailers. Which is enough time to buy and eat a McDonald’s. Then you don’t have to inflict the noise and smell on other viewers, or the mess on the staff that’ll have to clear up spoiled sauce, dropped fries and lettuce as well as deal with the abandoned greasy packaging.

Weird to assume I don't put my rubbish in the bin.

@SleepingStandingUp
No I’m afraid I hate that as well ! Oh for the days when it was just ice cream !
The mess people leave behind is unbelievable as well, I know they ask you to leave your rubbish for recycling but food all over the floor?

No wonder we're all so fucking fat if people can't manage the length of a film without stuffing their faces.

Also, taking McDonald's into the cinema is as common as muck.

I am proud to say I am as common as muck.

And if that's your logic, then those who dislike the smell surely couldn't smell it with their heads being so far up their arse and all..

WhateverMate · 09/12/2023 18:23

Yeah this does't make sense because according to you, McDonald's is right next to the cinema?

You said "Times a bit stretched so we can only just get to the cinema and food as the film starts."

So why would you get the Maccies, go all the way back to the car, eat it and then walk back to the cinema.

Surely you'd just eat in there and the go next door to watch the film?

It's almost as though you were bored and thought you'd start a mildly controversial thread for the sake of it...

McDonalds has this wonderful yhing called a drive through. I drove though it, parked in the car park (shared by the cinema), DC scoffed their tea and then we went into the cinema.

Cinema hot dogs and nachos don't seem to smell much, possibly because they're so rubbery. McD's would smell a lot more, I think.

Glad to see you ate before you went. That seems the obvious thing to do.

mumof1or2 · 09/12/2023 20:53

My son always has a maccies when we go to the cinema. I take a big shopping bag, buy some minstrels and Diet Coke for me from the supermarket on the way, stick a happy meal in there for my son and happy days - we eat without spending £££ on cinema food. Although I do deliberately take it inside a bag, I think you are actually allowed to take your own food and drink into most cinemas.

mumof1or2 · 09/12/2023 20:59

Some of the responses you've had on this post are unbelievable by the way! Where do all these MNers hide? As I never encounter anyone like this in real life. Have these people never given their child a McDonalds? Or allowed them to eat anything at the cinema in case they get fat?!

Some of us loathe the smell of popcorn, nachos though, the smells make me heave which is one of the reasons I don't like going to the cinema any more.

Must have been tricky for a long time. Popcorn etc.

There did used to be popcorn but not in the huge buckets there are now! I was once behind someone who ordered enormous buckets of stinking popcorn and trays of nachos oozing 'cheese', the smell was appalling. Luckily he wasn't going into the same screen we were!

BrimfulOfMash · 09/12/2023 17:57

I need my own personal cinema where eating anything is banned, as is talking, whispering, fidgeting excessively, drinking through a straw from a cup with ice in it, and looking at your phone.

I'll second that!

WelshFionaThePlasticSurgeryGorgon · 09/12/2023 21:16

Cineworld have a strict NO HOT FOOD OR ALCOHOL policy. We reserve the right to refuse customers entry into the screens with hot food or alcohol bought outside the premises. All our cinemas display the necessary signage, advising customers of this policy.

allmyliesaretrue · 09/12/2023 18:29

Oh ffs.

Well, it's true.

Could someone tell me why they can't survive a couple of hours without a bucket of popcorn and a family bag of Minstrels?

We can survive, but we WANT to eat while watching the movie.
Why is that so difficult for people to understand?

I would have zero interest in going to the cinema if I couldn't eat a load of crap there too, many others would be the same, and then all of the cinemas would close because they get a high % of their revenue from food.

If they weren't selling food then they would need to increase ticket prices for the movie by a substantial amount.

No. Why?

I don't go in to 'survive'. I go in to relax and enjoy the event.

We have an M&S next door and I buy some treats from there.

Shodan · 09/12/2023 21:53

I was inferring you had weight issues due to the amount of crap you were gleefully saying you ate.

I think the word you wanted was 'implying', not 'inferring', going by your rather unpleasant previous post.

If you're aiming for supercilious, at least first ensure that you're using the correct vocabulary.
