They didn’t substitute my milk

StrugglingwithmyMH · 09/12/2023 10:27

I have no option but to get my groceries delivered every week. I don’t have any way to get to a shop.
with my weekly shop I ordered milk. Normal milk. But it wasn’t available. So instead of substituting it, I have no milk.
substitutions we’re an option. Did they? No. To get my milk this week I would have to order a separate delivery tomorrow with a charge for spending under the minimum or spend an extra £40.

Grocery shops are on Uber Eats and Deliveroo if you have those in your area. A lifesaver for when you just need a few things and the minimum order is usually only £15 or so.

LittleOwl153 · 09/12/2023 10:30

Do you have a delivery type delivery shop around you? For example tesco do small orders ...

But yes annoying!

Mindymomo · 09/12/2023 10:32

Did you ask for milk to be substituted, if you did I would be ringing to find out why. If it’s Tesco maybe they will send you a woosh delivery. I know it costs more, but our co op does a quick delivery for a small fee.

theduchessofspork · 09/12/2023 10:33

Moronic

However get some extra for freezer or get some long life next time

RainbowZebraWarrior · 09/12/2023 10:34

I've had this problem, so now have a tub of dried milk in the pantry. It does for tea and coffee. I used to always have some long life milk in the cupboard as well, but I've forgotten to get any in a while. Good idea for back up, especially over Christmas.

I've had chicken not arrive twice recently. I find ut very strange that some other form of chicken couldn't be found as a substitute.

<nervously awaits email coming through for todays delivery>

User13579367337 · 09/12/2023 10:34

It is very annoying when they do that. I had that with toilet paper last week. It’s glaringly obvious when they simply couldnt be arsed to swap for a substitute, like the whole of Tesco honestly doesn’t have a another pack of toilet paper or carton of milk

CluelessHamster · 09/12/2023 10:35

So frustrating. I ordered kitchen roll on my click and collect shop this week and the brand I ordered wasn't available - fine but they claim to have no alternative! Kitchen roll - really??? No biggie, I'm collecting anyway so I'll walk into the shop and buy some from the aisle that will probably be full of the stuff. Very annoying for you though. Hopefully deliveroo or ubereats will help!

SM4713 · 09/12/2023 10:35

Why don't you keep some long like ones in the cupboard???

snowlady4 · 09/12/2023 10:36

If it's tesco, they're incredibly helpful on their WhatsApp chat. I would message them see if you can get it resolved. Order two and freeze one if you have room in your freezer

Namechangeforthis88 · 09/12/2023 10:38

I had it with rolls once. I struggle to believe giant Sainsburys didn't have any bread they could have substituted. Obviously forgot and cba to go back for it.

Chiar · 09/12/2023 10:40

Very frustrating. We used to have the same with bread, which is why we stopped using Asda delivery.

Flickersy · 09/12/2023 10:47

Have you no friends, family, neighbours, access to local area social media groups where you could ask for someone to pick you up some milk?

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/12/2023 10:57

Are you on your local Facebook? Maybe someone will get you some milk?

GrumpyPanda · 09/12/2023 10:59

Long-life milk is disgusting, but couldn't you just do another order with plenty of detergent or tinned items to bring you over the delivery threshold? That's unless money is really really tight right now.

Hankunamatata · 09/12/2023 11:01

Parents use tesco delivery saver as they cam get same day seliverys and as many as they want in a week. Perhaps other stores have the same

10HailMarys · 09/12/2023 11:02

Obviously that’s crap on the supermarket’s part. If you have a freezer, though, definitely make sure you always have a couple of pints frozen for emergencies in future. (Or have a couple of longlife cartons in the cupboard - but obviously that doesn’t taste the same as fresh frozen milk would.)

I have this but there is a minimum delivery amount which I think is £50, or they charge a low basket fee of £5 I think (not completely sure as I’ve never done this - but you definitely can’t just pay £2 and have milk arrive). So it would work out very expensive for OP just for some milk.

Ive had some items not substituted as ‘nothing suitable is available’. Oven chips, really? No chips in the whole store?! It’s happened to me when something is on a v good offer, has sold out and I think they don’t want to have to send a more expensive item and honour the cheaper price. Not the case for OP though as milk won’t be on offer.

plumtreebroke · 09/12/2023 11:08

Tesco Whoosh delivery costs £2.99. It may not be available everywhere and is just 'most popular products' which I assume includes milk.

Claims delivery in 21 - 36 minutes
.

StarlightLady · 09/12/2023 11:10

Can a neighbour help you out on this occasion? I appreciate this is not the point but we are talking practicalities here.

On the bigger picture, it costs nothing to email the shop and explain your situation.

Homemadearmy · 09/12/2023 11:13

I ordered ftom asda, and they did substitute my milk. But with a more expensive one and they substituted with a lesser quality. I ordered 3 x 2 litres and they sent 2 cravendale which cost the same as 3 normal milk. Thankfully i was able to hand them back to the driver and get more. But it was still a pain

Canisaysomething · 09/12/2023 11:20

You don’t have a single person in your life who would drop round some milk for you?

Coffeeandcrocs · 09/12/2023 12:14

Amazon prime a case of UHT?

whynotwhatknot · 09/12/2023 12:34

crap service its ovbious there was other milk any milk they could give you

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/12/2023 12:38

When we lived very rurally we had a slab of UHT on standby.

I do find it hard to believe that the supermarket had no milk at all, but then Tesco have been all our if brown bread on occasion too.
