16yo
Wants a job. Apparently.
Weirdly, a job hasn't fluttered into his bedroom and landed on his lap so he is most perplexed.

Picked up an application form for him from a local supermarket.
Encourage him to get a pen (no easy feat) and sit down to complete application.

20 seconds later... "What's my name?"

And that was just the beginning. I swear a 4yo would make a better employee. I fear for our future.

Note from MNHQ - we've edited the title as we had a few reports about one of the terms used there. We're sure there was no intention to offend but it was clearly upsetting a few people and we didn't want the issue to derail the thread

Mine ran away, taking her baby sister with her, called the cops and child protective services....because she didn't want to clean her room.

Summer 2012 My dh was in the throes of a huge heart attack.

It was very early morning and I was still in bed, stepson knocked on my bedroom door and said "dad's not well"

I took one look at dh and told dss, "phone for an ambulance, I need to get dressed. Your dad is having a heart attack"
Stepson picked up the landlines and said "what number do I call for an ambulance?"
He was at university at the time! We still laugh about 'what's the number for 999' today. DSS is a teacher at secondary school now
Dh is fully recovered and doing very well.

Filling in an application form for college, 15 year old asks “what school do I go to?” followed swiftly by “what’s the address?”

I mean, he’s only been at that school for almost 5 years so I guess it’s a lot to ask 🙄

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 06/12/2023 06:41

Ds once asked how to spell his middle name when form filling for college...

Catza · 06/12/2023 08:24

I’m so relieved that’s not just us!
Not knowing when the school term starts (I genuinely don’t think my parents once received any information from the school in my entire secondary education, yet we are now solely in charge of school term times, starting times, what to bring etc. Apparently, all they need to do is being turfed out of the car on time - no other responsibilities)
Genuine surprise that there are instructions on a pot of noodles that she eats with relative regularity. Needs help to boil a kettle and pour water in in case she “does it wrong”
Despite being told where the bin bags are still wants her dad to go downstairs to help her find them.
When she has some rubbish to get rid of - “where should I put this?” Every single day.

Loving these. 😂

I once worked with someone who told their daughter off for not helping with cleaning. The daughter (16) got upset and rang her friend. Friend helpfully suggested she rings an ambulance and says mum is crazy. Ambulance came out and as the woman was in some shock and distress over the situation, they “processed her” as having MH crisis and took her to the hospital. Psychiatry liaison assessed her and the moron put in her records “doesn’t have insight into her condition”, discharged her home with home crisis team support. Visiting nurses at the very first visit could clearly see she had no MH condition but the service psychiatrist wouldn’t discharge her because of the “no insight” comment. It took a week to reason with him that she couldn’t possibly have an insight into a condition she doesn’t have.

Sounds very familiar. Honestly, their brain falls out of their head for a good few years.

Yes my little drama queen phoned police to complain I wouldn't let his girlfriend come over. Was genuinely outraged that they didn't arrest me on the spot. They did come out though!

My friend once went home, realised she had forgotten her key, and no one answered the door, so she looked through the letter box to shout to her housemate- only to see the hall and kitchen filled with smoke and no signs of life… so she rang our other friend in a panic and actually asked “my house is on fire- what’s the number for 999?!” 😃.

Maybe we should have a moronic students thread too!

Im glad your husband is doing well. My friend’s house turned out not to actually be on fire… the housemate had burnt a large amount of toast and then gone off to the loo without bothering to open a window.

God they can be tedious. Muuuuummm what can I have to eat? Been asking me the same question for 16years and has not yet twigged that the answer doesn't change.

Speaking of noodles, today when I poured my tea, noodles came out of the kettle! He'd had the bright idea to just stick them in the kettle rather than waiting for it to boil.

Lol. To be fair, panic is understandable during an emergency.

Weve been teaching our Cubs and Scouts First Aid recently. Honestly... even the normally smart ones did very daft things when confronted with a "casualty".

I asked DS where his coat was this morning. He replied "Its Wednesday?" and walked out the door to school.
He must be waterproof on Wednesdays.

Mine aged 17 decided that climbing up on the roof of the Youth Centre to get a lost football was an excellent idea. Except he is terrified of heights and his friends had to call us to talk / guide him down. The next month he climbs a tree to get a football, guess who his friends have to call........?

My DB also had a phase of not engaging his brain when he was 16 ish, in his case it usually ended up in stitches and was due to stupid dares from my.other brother.
