16yo
Wants a job. Apparently.
Weirdly, a job hasn't fluttered into his bedroom and landed on his lap so he is most perplexed.

Picked up an application form for him from a local supermarket.
Encourage him to get a pen (no easy feat) and sit down to complete application.

20 seconds later... "What's my name?"

And that was just the beginning. I swear a 4yo would make a better employee. I fear for our future.

Note from MNHQ - we've edited the title as we had a few reports about one of the terms used there. We're sure there was no intention to offend but it was clearly upsetting a few people and we didn't want the issue to derail the thread

Speaking of noodles, today when I poured my tea, noodles came out of the kettle! He'd had the bright idea to just stick them in the kettle rather than waiting for it to boil.

😂

The boys used to do this at school to us and eachother but by whacking said hand a pack of cards (vertically). Insane!

?????

FrancisSeaton · 06/12/2023 09:28

Ahahaha this has made me smile
My son is almost 17 and exactly the same.
The things he comes out with at times makes me weep

It kind of is now that I think about it. 🤔

Crystal meth

Jesus!
Some of these are funny but I'm quite horrified by the kids thinking it's acceptable to ring the police/ambulance, presumably at an age that they should know better.

Until recently I had 4 teens at home. I could fill the thread myself.... Ds's new logic is to wait until he leaves the room to ask me questions and get mad I can't hear him... Or wait until I have gone to bed to come knock on the door for some trivial reason... We eat tea as a family every night. Plenty of chat time.

what a horrible thread!

Why?

Pigsinpainauchocolat · 06/12/2023 09:40

Oops the dog jumped on me ^

I don't think it's horrible. Teens do daft stuff sometimes and sharing this makes other parents know it's ok, that their teen isn't a one off disaster area and they do get through it and come out the other side as reasonable adults.
And sometimes if we didn't laugh, we would cry!

Yes they can only actually speak when you're out/asleep/on the phone

My son likes to answer either/or question with a yes or no.

So for example we text to ask 'are you finishing school early today or staying all day?'. He'll reply 'no'.

Very helpful.

Invisimamma · 06/12/2023 09:42

Mine is only 13 and I'm wondering how much worse it gets from here...

We got a new kitchen, a few weeks later he asked where the bin is, so he hadn't used the bin for 3 weeks.

Projectile vomited over the living room because he vaped too much and made himself ill 🤮. Hopefully learned his lesson.

When he is given money he will spend every last penny rather than save the change for another day e.g. buying two KFC meals and eating them both instead of just getting one meal and saving the rest of his money for something else.

Dp and I went away for the weekend, leaving grandparents in charge, ds didn't change his pants the whole time we were away...4 days! Grandparents didn't think to check as it's kind of a basic thing you expect 13yr olds to shower and change their underwear.

Is this normal? We're completely exasperated with it.

I personally need this thread as it’s my first time being a teenage mum! Makes me not despair quite so much

Anisette · 06/12/2023 09:43

I'm curious, OP, what information did your son think they were asking for when they asked that question?

I've had that response from a fully grown man. It was in a work context, something he had written was ambiguous, so I sent a quick email to ask whether he meant ABC or XYZ. I got a one word reply - "Yes".

Sharontheodopolodous · 06/12/2023 09:46

Years ago I was a single parent and money was tight

I'd saved up for about a year to buy a new microwave and had used it twice

Then teen dd decided to make scrambled eggs on toast,so for reasons best known to her,put two eggs (uncracked) in a bowl and shoved them in for ten minutes

Blew the door off

Best part is,she'd watched me make them at least once a week for years!

'I didn't know' (said in the most sullen voice ever)

She's now 26 and refuses to make them as she went off them after that

My SIL was sitting in my house and got a call from her teenage DS from their kitchen to ask if they had any bread….

MissDollyMix · 06/12/2023 09:47

Important and/or loving text message from me to teenage DS often just gets the response ‘bruh’ 🙄

Menomeno · 06/12/2023 09:48

My ds kept asking me to buy shampoo (Head and Shoulders as he has dandruff). I eventually ordered him an enormous bottle on Amazon with a pump top. Less than a fortnight later he told me he needed shampoo. I said “Bloody hell! What are you doing with it? That bottle should have lasted for months!” and he replied indignantly “Well I haven’t just got hair on my head, you know! I have to use it all over”. Turns out that he thought he had to wash his hairy legs, arms, pubes etc with shampoo. 19 years of age!

wobytide · 06/12/2023 09:48

Not moronic behaviour but the excuses around job applications are becoming a running joke

"Only pays minimum wage"
"They want me to work on a Friday AND a Saturday evening sometimes"
"You have to stand up for long periods"
"I don't want to be handling any food"(it was a takeaway)
"I don't like Primark clothes"

Ah yes! I often get calls when I’m at work from DC’s or even DH asking me if we have something or where something is?! Hello?! I’m at work!!
