16yo
Wants a job. Apparently.
Weirdly, a job hasn't fluttered into his bedroom and landed on his lap so he is most perplexed.

Picked up an application form for him from a local supermarket.
Encourage him to get a pen (no easy feat) and sit down to complete application.

20 seconds later... "What's my name?"

And that was just the beginning. I swear a 4yo would make a better employee. I fear for our future.

Note from MNHQ - we've edited the title as we had a few reports about one of the terms used there. We're sure there was no intention to offend but it was clearly upsetting a few people and we didn't want the issue to derail the thread

Was just in B&Q there - awful day here - and realised my son was walking down the first aisle of the store still holding the umbrella over his head. Christ what is wrong with teenagers at times?

He might have a point. In the one where I work, the roof is so leaky (building rented from council) that we have to place our buckets strategically to catch the drips!

More idiocy today. We put the tree up on Sunday and I went upstairs and let kids get on with putting the decs on. For the past two days the TV remote has been awol, I searched everywhere, deep sofa dive, pulling out furniture. Finally had a brainwave, and sure enough discovered it at the bottom of the decorations box, which I'd put back in the cupboard. Excuse: 'it was lying on the floor and getting in the way so I just threw it in the box.' Just giving up at this point really.

@willowtalk

Have you ever wondered why you have so few friends???

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 13/12/2023 15:00

I'm a Geordie and had a bf from Glasgow many years ago. His mates struggled to understand me. Years of following Billy Connolly saw me understanding all of them!!

DS has had surgery on his shoulder recently and is in a sling for 6weeks. Lots of interesting teenage moments, fortunately he did foresee some issues such as toileting , practiced with his left hand so no embarrassing moments. His first attempt at showering was funny and he did struggle securing his towel but has since nailed it.
I bought him some baby wipes to help him clean his face and right arm pit ( he cannot lift his shoulder at all). When I went into his room to borrow a wipe he told me they were downstairs. I asked why and he said that the cupboard by the kitchen door was filthy due to how the dog opens the kitchen door, true, so he thought he’d clean it. This was a cause for celebration. He appears to have engaged the newly developed adult brain and no longer assumes that “someone” will do it. I was so chuffed. Such a small act but it gives me hope for the future.
He has also resisted the temptation to drive his car one handed, he did go out on Sat and Sun, big reunion with friends who had returned from uni for the weekend, but has decided that it wasn’t fun as a one armed bandit so will not be going clubbing again until he is out of the sling.
There is light at the end of the tunnel although I’m sure that he will regress from time to time.

My daughter came out with a corker this morning - she was flapping about looking for her front door key and blaming the universe/me for the fact she couldn’t find it. She suddenly went very quiet and left, so my husband stuck his head out of the door to check if she had found it and she replied “I hadn’t lost it I just forgot I could take it out of my bag” 🤦‍♀️

SinnerBoy · 14/12/2023 08:26

😂

That reminds me of the time my dad was complaining that he couldn't find his glasses. He got really pissed off at us all laughing, before realising that he'd pushed them up on his head!

I got pregnant when I was 17. Whatever dumb stuff DS does I can cope with as long as he doesn't get anyone pregnant 😂
