Bradley Walsh sexism in the Chase

So a female contestant said she worked at a university medical school and Bradley asked her “have you got a background in nursing”.

Bet he wouldn’t have asked a man that!

Funnily enough if she had a background in nursing she’d be more likely to work in the nursing department! Which will not be part of the medical school.

If disliking casual sexism makes me a “Nella” then I’ll proudly take that badge.

Exactly. Thank you. Once upon a time on MN such a post would have resulted in an interesting discussion on subconscious sexism. Instead there’s now just a lot of insult flinging and little critical thought or discussion.

Shame MN has gone downhill so much, used to be an intelligent type place. I can assure everyone I’m not a pearl clutcher nor professionally offended. 😁

Absolutely!

Exactly. The irony of being sexist to women flagging sexism seems to escape them.

CantFindTheBeat · 05/12/2023 07:47

You are 100% right that it's sexism and/or bias, OP.

A real shame that so many posters (presumably female) are fine with it ☹️

Depends who you ask…

Isn't that why some people call it stroke city?

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 05/12/2023 10:44

The man wet himself when the Olympian Fanny Schmeller was one of the answers and intellectual he is not

You may not personally find it amusing, but a great many people do. 3 million people have watched the clip on YouTube.

Also, if you've watched the show, you will have seen the countless times when Bradley puts himself and his own general knowledge down.

No, he isn't an intellectual; no, he has never, ever claimed to be one. He's a gameshow host and entertainer. You might as well criticise Mary Berry for only being great at baking and not also being able to speak fluent Hungarian.

CormorantStrikesBack · 05/12/2023 11:31

Yes. I have no issue with his level of knowledge. He’s not there to be a chaser.

Informally, sure.

But not when it comes to a quiz like The Chase which requires a definitive answer to questions. In this case, the definitive answer is the actual legal position and NOT an informal, political view point. 🤷‍♂️

DownNative · 05/12/2023 13:45

Meowandthen · 04/12/2023 19:02

You realise that he doesn’t write the questions or provide the answers? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Er...yeah.

He was still incorrect to state the contestant got it wrong. 🤷‍♂️

CormorantStrikesBack · 05/12/2023 15:16

There was another question where they gave the wrong answer years ago. Sadly I can’t remember the question but it was to do with Northern Ireland and the answer they gave was wrong because Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain (but is part of the United Kingdom). They said Great Britain when I think they meant United Kingdom.

Because I think it’s far more likely he’d have asked a man if he had a background of being a doctor. Not a nurse.

Do you think that perhaps this is you bringing up your own embedded sexism and putting on someone else?

He doesn't write his own material for the show, someone writes it for him (I applied for a job on ITV so I know this is true, even though I didn't end up getting it).

I like the programme and i like him. It's lighthearted. But then I'm not looking for offence at every opportunity

My thoughts too

Also…..He really messed up with the Londonderry/Derry gaff!!! Ages ago.

What did he say ?

Scaredycatofrodents · 05/12/2023 15:45

Ah I've seen it now.
To me it's Derry - but I am from Dublin.

I do wish he wouldn't take quite so long sometimes when the contestants are setting the final target in saying "Cooooooooooorrrrrrecccctttt!!"

We know somebody who went on the show and she got Shaun. Apparently, the other Chasers don't see or socialise with the contestants when the cameras are not rolling, but Shaun does. He's always been my favourite Chaser.

Even when he has to do the pantomime villain act and the trash-talking, you can so obviously tell that it's completely out of character for him.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 05/12/2023 17:07

At least, if Bradley is so utterly stupid like some people on this thread seem to be making out, he won't see this thread - as he'll be trying to Google himself by searching for 'Brandon Willis' Grin

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 05/12/2023 17:16

Just to add, there was once a deeply unpleasant contestant `on who was nasty to Anne and made horrible comments about her weight and looks.

Anne used her acerbic wit to more than repay - and very rightly deserved it was!

I remember that. She said "I don't respect people who don't look after themselves" or something similar in reference to Anne. Nasty woman.

I think they got another question/answer wrong this evening.

what food stuff is Petit Filous famous for?

they said the answer was yoghurt.

It’s actually a soft cheese 😂. They use a different type of bacteria than yoghurt bacteria.
