Bradley Walsh sexism in the Chase

CormorantStrikesBack · 04/12/2023 17:37

So a female contestant said she worked at a university medical school and Bradley asked her “have you got a background in nursing”.

Bet he wouldn’t have asked a man that!

Funnily enough if she had a background in nursing she’d be more likely to work in the nursing department! Which will not be part of the medical school.

Anne Frosty Knickers

it is a bit '70's, but it's a lovely change from all the 'new' crap quiz/game shows..

I don’t know, The Wheel is a load of silly fun that I remember from 90s quiz shows and manages not to actually be embarrassingly outdated in tone. Maybe I’m just nostalgic for Dale Winton - there’s a man who could run a quiz show.

Do you realise there is a button on your telly that says OFF?

tachycardigan · 04/12/2023 19:00

He's a twat. I've always hated the sight of him Envy

Yes, women, just turn your eyes away from the sexism if it offends your sensibilities, don't question the menz Hmm

Walsh asked, "The Bogside is part of which Northern Irish city?"

Contestant: "Londonderry."

Walsh said it was wrong and that it was "Derry".

There's only one official legal name for the city - Londonderry. So, it was actually correct and Walsh was incorrect to say it was wrong. 🤦‍♂️

You realise that he doesn’t write the questions or provide the answers? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, he was wrong and shouldn't have said it....and the producers shouldn't have left it in the edit.

Funnily enough by the time he’d said it it was too late.

anyway I’m not pathetic enough to turn off a tv show of which I like 90% of it just because the host is a bit of a twat who says sexist stuff. The actual quiz content is good.

Actually, the absolute joy of modern tv is that don’t even have to have channels. I haven’t downloaded ITV Hub on to my new tv, I have far more fun ways to kill braincells if needs be 🙂

Yes, we realise that....it's even more reason for him to stop chirping in with his rubbish.

The producers don't stop it. Maybe they hate him too and want him to come across and an imbecile?

CormorantStrikesBack · 04/12/2023 19:06

I guess with the Derry /londonderry thing that’s down to the researchers? I don’t think he writes the questions. 😁

I hate it when someone slightly mispronounces someone’s name as an answer and get told it can’t be accepted when it was obvious what they meant.

They had the answer to a medical question wrong a few weeks ago…..well 2 of the 3 answers were acceptable and the person said one of the possible answers and was told they were wrong.

He's very much a throwback which ITV tends to love.

PatFussy · 04/12/2023 19:07

I could tell you a few stories about old Brad.... 👀

BoilingHotand50something · 04/12/2023 19:10

Oh no! Bad stories @PatFussy ??

I like the programme and i like him. It's lighthearted. But then I'm not looking for offence at every opportunity

THIS! What a bizarre thread. Confused There's nothing sexist or offensive about Bradley Walsh OR The Chase. Good grief. Hmm

PinkFrogss · 04/12/2023 19:11

Because I think it’s far more likely he’d have asked a man if he had a background of being a doctor. Not a nurse.

Would someone studying at medical school have a background of being a doctor? I’m also assuming she looked young enough to be studying her first degree.

FreshWinterMorning · 04/12/2023 19:12

I give zero shits about hearing any 'stories' about Bradley. We all know that poster is not going to say anything. They're just attention seeking. 🙄

Evidently there are sexist and old fashioned bits of The Chase and the way Bradley delivers his comedy. If that’s suits you (and it obviously suits thousands of others who like their comedy on the old side) crack on.

So what was her answer then?

Maybe in here bio she mentioned about being a nurse in the past so he asked her about it. That's the way these things usually work.

People are so quick to think the worst.

I am fairly sure it was the other way around and Brandon is as thick as fucking mince he just reads off cards and pretends he knows shit. There is no light behind the eyes.

Also, it is Derry.

If you read the OP, the contestant said that they WORKED at the University medical school, not that they were studying there.

There was a young woman on a few weeks back who was from such and such a place but was currently from X (big university city). Brad asked her if she was at uni there. Turned out she already had a degree and masters and was working at the university in some important role. Brad just made an assumption she was a young student.

What on earth is wrong with that? If someone says they've moved to Oxford, surely asking if they go to University there is a reasonable question?

Awkward, his name is Bradley…

PinkFrogss · 04/12/2023 19:23

@MalcolmTuckersSwearBox Ahh yes I definitely misread!

Would be interested to hear her answer, I’m guessing if she said yes he just gets told what to ask from the application info.
