Bradley Walsh sexism in the Chase

CormorantStrikesBack · 04/12/2023 17:37

So a female contestant said she worked at a university medical school and Bradley asked her “have you got a background in nursing”.

Bet he wouldn’t have asked a man that!

Funnily enough if she had a background in nursing she’d be more likely to work in the nursing department! Which will not be part of the medical school.

What on earth is wrong with that? If someone says they've moved to Oxford, surely asking if they go to University there is a reasonable question?

This. ^ Some people just love to look for something to be offended by. What a really unpleasant and nasty thread this is.

@Psychoticbreak

I am fairly sure it was the other way around and Brandon is as thick as fucking mince he just reads off cards and pretends he knows shit. There is no light behind the eyes.

Also, it is Derry.

Can't even get his name right... How embarrassing for you. Blush

JaneJeffer · 04/12/2023 19:23

Awkward, his name is Bradley…
Imagine using the wrong name for something, oh wait

JaneJeffer · 04/12/2023 19:25

Still not as embarrassing as a whole country getting a name wrong

@MalcolmTuckersSwearBox Ahh yes I definitely misread!

Would be interested to hear her answer, I’m guessing if she said yes he just gets told what to ask from the application info.

Interesting that neither the OP or any of the people agreeing will say how the woman answered.

Not only does Brad get info from the researchers but he speaks to the contestants beforehand.

C1N1C · 04/12/2023 19:25

Bit sexist to think only women can be nurses... (both OP and Bradley)

lollipoprainbow · 04/12/2023 19:26

He's good friends with Holly Willoughby that's enough to put me off him.

Sounds like you spend a lot of time reading the gossip columns.

Psychoticbreak · 04/12/2023 19:41

@JaneJeffer exactly IMAGINE getting a name wrong. Imagine posting a satirical post on a forum too. Ugh the EMBARASSMENT.

I dont like Brandon. I dont need to call him his real name cos he wouldnt even notice unless he was prompted into his earpiece.

PinkFrogss · 04/12/2023 19:11

Because I think it’s far more likely he’d have asked a man if he had a background of being a doctor. Not a nurse.

Would someone studying at medical school have a background of being a doctor? I’m also assuming she looked young enough to be studying her first degree.

No, she worked there. She was I’d guess in her 50s. He asked what she did for a job and she said she worked at a medical school. People either working or studying at a medical school are nothing to do with nursing. Nurses don’t go to medical school.

OP, are you the permanently offended type who looks for offence in everything? It must get tiring sometimes.

I work with a load of male nurses so believe me I don’t think that. And nothing I’ve said could lead you to think that. 🤷‍♀️

Not particularly.

So what was her answer then?

Maybe in here bio she mentioned about being a nurse in the past so he asked her about it. That's the way these things usually work.

People are so quick to think the worst.

She said no, that she worked in admin.

but that wasn’t really the point. Surely the default question if someone says they work in a medical school is to ask them if they’re a doctor. Or even just ask what they do there. 🤷‍♀️

Pathetic isn't it?

FreshWinterMorning · 04/12/2023 19:48

Not quite as pathetic as being nasty to other people on a forum. It was a fairly light hearted post, not too deep. You should chill out. You seem rather wound up.

Comments here are ridiculous. Clearly most haven’t a clue how a TV programme works. Or just want to be offended.

CormorantStrikesBack · 04/12/2023 19:58

I think the comment from Bradley is indicative of a wider stereotypical view a lot of people still hold. Which is a bit sad in today’s society. After twenty years of working in a hospital I can vouch it’s quite common for the women in scrubs to be called “nurse” but the patients assume any man in scrubs is a doctor.

Maybe everyone is ok with that and it’s pathetic to think this is a shame, that we should know better. 🤷‍♀️

Of course that’s not right but context is relevant.

The producers and researchers have the contestants’ back stories so will know what is appropriate to say.

There is loads of sexist crap on TV but The Chase isn’t part of that.

FreshWinterMorning · 04/12/2023 19:10

THIS! What a bizarre thread. Confused There's nothing sexist or offensive about Bradley Walsh OR The Chase. Good grief. Hmm

I'm sure there is for the professionally offended 🤣🤣

LakeTiticaca · 04/12/2023 20:35

Tbh OP you are coming across as a bit of a pearl clutcher 😅

Phonedown · 04/12/2023 21:11

Christ here we go. Women aren't allowed to voice an opinion on anything without being called a "pearl clutchers" on Mumsnet. Could be worse, could be "you're such a Karen Op!"

People can recognise the sexism in something and want to discuss without being mortally offended by it. We can also recognise that sexism is a spectrum, that involves "milder" cultural sexism and biased thinking. No one is calling for Bradders to be cancelled so you can all rest easy.

The man wet himself when the Olympian Fanny Schmeller was one of the answers and intellectual he is not

Why would he be? It's a game show.

Nonoatchristmas · 04/12/2023 18:34

I’ve always thought he was from the jokes he makes about Anne. Frosty Knickers, I mean for fuck sake what era are we living in. I know they all play a ‘character’, but the women are referred to by how ‘feminine’ they rate, it’s all a bit 70s isn’t it.

I know someone who went on The Chase, they didn’t not think too highly of Bradders.

So they liked him then? As they didn't not think too highly of him?

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 04/12/2023 21:15

TicTacNicNak · 04/12/2023 18:41

There was a young woman on a few weeks back who was from such and such a place but was currently from X (big university city). Brad asked her if she was at uni there. Turned out she already had a degree and masters and was working at the university in some important role. Brad just made an assumption she was a young student.

It's a question on a game show. Did he collapse in hysterics when she told him? Did he say something inherently misogynistic?
Good grief.
