To feel completely disillusioned with the Labour Party?

I've voted Labour since I've been able to vote. Come from a working class family of Labour voters also and I'd never vote Tory, but I'm feeling so disillusioned by Labour at the minute.

Wasn't really a fan of Starmer to begin with, but even less so after his comments about Margaret Thatcher. I really don't want to vote for them at the next GE.

AIBU to just not vote at all?

I'll challenge Labour on 6th July, when the results are in.

YvonneBee · 01/06/2024 07:39

Voting for a smaller party you like is not a completely wasted vote. It might not have an effect this time but if the vote for a party goes up, more people will see it as a viable alternative next time.

Mummadeze · 01/06/2024 07:48

I don’t think you should stop voting Labour based on this one issue. Do a lot more research and think about the bigger picture. I was a Corbyn supporter but I am excited that Starmer has a chance now and would never turn my back on Labour. He seems like a decent and intelligent person from everything I have read.

I'm still torn between spoiling my ballot paper and voting Labour. At the moment I'm leaning towards the latter. A vote for the Greens is a vote for clueless genderwoo loonies.

BIWI · 01/06/2024 08:13

Are there not enough threads about the 2024 General Election, that @Bibi12 had to resurrect one from 2023?!

I could have written this!

Startingagainandagain · 01/06/2024 08:47

I assume you are not thrilled either with what has happened for the past 14 years?

Unless you want corruption, polluted water, unchecked greed by utility companies, crumbling schools/NHS/transport and the Brexit mess to continue to blight our country, do your bit and help make sure there is a new government in place.

Tactical vote is the way to go.

In some places it will mean voting Lib Dem or Green.

I really don't get how anyone at this stage would think a labour or a Labour/Lib Dem coalition would not be better than the Tories.

No party is ever going to perfect or meet all our individual expectations anyway.

They can't be pure socialist because they know it won't work and will only result in huge debt. If you want to invest more money in public services you need to encourage and reward enterprise. Where do you think most tax come from? What fuels economy, creates growth and provides jobs? Enterprise.

Have you ever seen purely socialist country that was doing well for itself and its people ? Not one.
It's not just about the votes.

That was a response to someone else, I would never vote for a Corbyn Labour Party, wouldn’t vote for a Truss Tory party. Not inspired by Sunak, Starmer (or Davey 😂😂😂) . Would rather a right of centre party but loads of Boris’ Tories need kicking out and the party rebuilding.

I completed agree but that is unlikely to happen because class wars and dividing people is a great voting strategy in UK.

Papyrophile · 01/06/2024 13:27

The Times has an interview with KS today, which vacillating centrists would find reassuring.

^^

Spoil your ballot paper
If you write "You don't get my X if you don't respect my sex" on it will get seen as candidates can view spoils.

Can view, maybe. Mostly they don’t because why bother? Spoiled ballots are pointless.

AlcoholSwab · 01/06/2024 15:24

The best protest vote is no vote at all.

They're all a bunch of grifters and spivs.

Starmer is as much a scumbag as Sunak and anyone else sitting opposite him.

The British political class is corrupt and rotten to the core.

Wrong. The more marginal the seat, the more chance they are viewed. And if you lose a seat because of three spoiled ballots with the same message then you will take note and the Party will know.

QuickDraining · 01/06/2024 15:35

I don't think Labour will win. Or if they do it will be a very small win. There's loads of 'hold your nose' Labour voters, and I doubt they'll bother this time. Let's face it there just aren't that many swing voters. So we're basically banking on a load of old voters being wiped out since the last election. Labour could have promised up electoral reform - with that I might have given them a shot. Glad to watch both parties wither and die in their current form.

Well said.

Not voting led to the shitshow of Brexit.

You go with the Least Worst.

For me, Tories are the Absolute Worst.

I just can't see how Labour can win without Scotland. If reform don't stand down, then we could potentially be looking at a hung parliament. However if the Tory faithful finally decide they've had enough, then just perhaps Labour might win. Will be interesting to see the results.

In reality nobody does see it. It's just put in a pile of spoiled papers - it's not like anyone will take a serious look to see why people spoiled their paper.

It's really not the great act of rebellion or protest you would think from reading MN.

Joleyne · 01/06/2024 16:13

Let me get this straight:

Sewage in rivers, cost of living plunging thousands into poverty, education wrecked, childcare wrecked and costs astronomical, food standards reduced, energy costs raised, Brexit, fraudulent payments to the likes of Michelle Mone and no repercussions, wrecked economy (thanks Liz!), housing crisis, NHS on its knees, no doctors appointments, healthcare waiting lists...

BUT

"... Starmer said something I don't like. I can't possibly vote for Labour!"

Really, Op??

Reform are taking votes from the Tories, not from Labour.

Maybe. But that’s a very unlikely scenario, isn’t it?
in reality nobody takes any notice of spoiled ballots.

CranfordScones · 01/06/2024 16:38

Labour accepted the defection of Natalie Elphicke, so what exactly do they stand for? Political point scoring over solid principles. It's not as if she was a wavering Tory Wet.

Papyrophile · 01/06/2024 17:00

Pretty much everyone here is going to be alarmed by the report I have just seen leading the Telegraph's website that Reform are ahead of every other party on both Facebook and TikTok by likes. On TikTok, which skews youthful, the figures are Reform 125k and Labour 108k.

They stand for winning this election. They've finally learned the sort of ruthlessness the Tories have used to win elections. It's about time and I'm here for it.

They've got a ways to go before they catch up with the Tories in the 'point scoring over principles' race though.
