To think most mumsnetters are attractive?

I appreciate this might be weird!
It seems to be a relatively well off demographic, plenty of money around for treatments/tweakments and lovely quality clothing.
I imagine mumsnetters have clean, well cut and expensively dyed hair.
They have plenty of funds to afford lots of fruits and vegetables in their diet and the time/energy to exercise regularly.
Aibu to think most mumsnetters will be above average looking?

"I think Mn is overwhelmingly lower-middle class, but in income there’s a wide range, including some people who are struggling."

Really not. You see many things that are more representative of upper middle class. Lots of discussion of private schools is an example. Less than 10% go to private schools, but they're discussed quite a lot on here.

Strawberryshortcake90 · 30/11/2023 19:59

If you go on any of the “how much do you eat in a day” threads, everyone is falling over themselves to tell you they exist solely on salad and have never weighed more than 7 stone in their lives.

Have a look at the “show us your engagement ring” threads and all the porky sausage fingers demonstrate that the above is patently untrue.

peppapig123456 · 30/11/2023 20:00

Nope! Im fat, ugly and can't afford to spend any cash on improving myself!'

If I wasn't so fat I could fit in some of my nicer clothes but that's on the 'to do' list

They're closer to it though aren't they?

No. I wouldn’t agree. Their clothes and teeth are better though.

And hair and skin when you can afford better nutrition and care.

Didn't we already have this thread like last week?

Yes. Very strange!

You are determined to only see the wealth. I’m not sure why you’re bringing Trinny into it? Why not Susannah who does not look like Trinny but is even wealthier?

BinkyBeaufort · 30/11/2023 20:06

For an old, overweight, short-arsed, decrepit old bag, I'm pretty damn fine.

TheGoogleMum · 30/11/2023 20:07

Haven't had my hair cut in over a year. Don't dye it. Skint.

Doesn't work like that!

Sarcastic joke

No, I see the posts from people who are struggling, but I'm still telling you that the average on here is richer than the average in the Uk as a whole. It's totally clear, but some people are in denial.

Wealthy people are busy people. They are in clubs and doing activities. They are travelling. They have places to go all the time.

They are not sitting on their arses making multiple contributions to a website telling other people how super their lives are.

Many on here are complete fantasists.

Drhow · 30/11/2023 20:24

Doubtful. I honestly don’t think anyone is ugly, most people are ‘average’ as you say and only a very select few are above average imo but it’s all very subjective.

You are taking the top 10% of the population and comparing to people in poverty. There is a huge band in between. Again wealthy people are busy people. I’d hazard a guess they don’t talk about money much at all and are even more unlikely to spend a copious amount of time writing on MN.

This is so bitchy but it made me laugh anyway.

I think most Mnetters look like this.

Love that series. I hope they do another one

Did you watch sally4ever?

I watched it with my dad. Very awkward. Very funny though

I could give you so many examples, but it's not really the point of the thread.
In any case, I recommend you spend some time on S&B and see what typo of things are recommended.

Off to find an engagement ring thread....

I spend most of my time in S&B. It’s mostly the same regular posters.

Have you noticed when somebody posts asking for an opinion about an item and mistakenly post in the wrong forum, it attracts a huge number of people declaring that the person could buy the ‘exact same product’ in Primark, how frivolous it is to change from skinny to wide leg jeans because fashion dictates it and how they found a similar item in the charity shop.

S&B attract a lot of regular posters. But check it out at the end of December and note the amount of posters who will tell you their resolution is not to buy more clothes for X number of months, how they are addicted to online shopping and want to stop (I am included in this group) and how their credit cards are maxed out.

People who like style and beauty do so in lieu of hobbies. They/we spend so much time buying and returning, keeping tabs on refunds and how they/we could do so much more with the money than add to already overstuffed wardrobes. It doesn’t mean people are well off, they just choose to spend their money in different ways, very often money equals credit.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/11/2023 20:51

It's not just occasionally buying expensive things. It's the shops and products they use the most, the ones they know about. The way they talk about textiles, etc.
I don't really notice those Primark posts, no. That are loads about Boden though.

I'm one of those posters and am not wealthy. I spend money ie credit on clothes and products because I don't socialise much and I don't have any hobbies. I like nice clothes esp. coats. Right now I have two websites and have four coats in my onlines baskets. I can't afford four coats. I already have twenty plus coats. I have a huge amount of clothes with tags because I don't go anywhere/have anywhere to go to wear them.

I buy Boden for my kids because I like buying clothes for them. There are not loads of threads about Boden. There are threads looking for codes and sale times for Boden though. Also Boden is 'safe'. It isn't fashion or particularly stylish either and many people want to look appropriately dressed without standing out and Boden fits that brief. I buy clothes every fortnight, I am not wealthy or particularly attractive. I drive a twelve year old car and live in a semi in the suburbs. It would be better if I paid off my credit card!

Cantrushart · 30/11/2023 21:03

I'm sitting in my fat arse knocking back wine and feeding my SM addiction. Surely all of the gorgeous people have better things to do like learning Italian or meeting other lovely people at a yoga class.

Screamingabdabz · 30/11/2023 21:06

Some of us look like Suzi Quatro’s fat nan but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
