To think most mumsnetters are attractive?

I appreciate this might be weird!
It seems to be a relatively well off demographic, plenty of money around for treatments/tweakments and lovely quality clothing.
I imagine mumsnetters have clean, well cut and expensively dyed hair.
They have plenty of funds to afford lots of fruits and vegetables in their diet and the time/energy to exercise regularly.
Aibu to think most mumsnetters will be above average looking?

I am a gold star hot patootie of course!

Ollifer · 30/11/2023 16:36

You forgot the very handsome DH with a job in the city

Fannyfiggs · 30/11/2023 16:40

Yes! I wear Talbot Runhof gowns to the school run, with a red lip, a black boot and a Max Mara coat casually thrown over my shoulders.

I buy clothes from Cos and Toast but only to do my indoor hobbies in because I wouldn't be seen dead outside in them. You understand don't you darling.

And I'm 50 but have the face and breasts of a 30 year old despite having breastfed all my five children until they were 24.

Fink · 30/11/2023 16:43

I think the OP is right insofar as the demographics of people who have the time, inclination, and literacy skills to regularly post on any kind of internet forum (but particularly one which is not dedicated to a specific fandom or special interest) will naturally not be representative of the country as a whole. People who can afford to maintain a lifestyle that helps them to look good will be overrepresented and people who cannot will be underrepresented. There will be people from all walks of life, but not in the same proportions as in wider society.

“Sporty, sensible teens”

None of them are having sex or drinking alcohol either. They are such a wholesome new generation. (I have three young people and I don't believe this).

Shiningout · 30/11/2023 16:46

I tried bleaching my hair today and Ive ended up looking like a cross between Draco malfoy and Ron Weasley because my roots are platinum and my lengths and ends are orange. Does that fit your image?

Gwenhwyfar · 30/11/2023 16:00

I don't agree with that.
Two 20 year olds, one rich, one poor - no big difference.
Two 50 year olds, one rich, one poor - massive difference due to treatments, etc. Look at Trinny from Trinny and Susannah, nearly 60 and looks like 30.

You also get a lot fo comments when someone mentions a rich, celebrity who looks young 'oh most 50 years olds I know look like that'. The average 50 year old in a poor area does not look like Jennifer Anniston or Jay Lo.

You're talking about looking younger, the OP and I are talking about looking attractive.

Two very different things.

RainyonaSummersDay · 30/11/2023 17:01

There is very likely a decent percentage of posters who are in a higher income bracket so they can afford a better life and grooming treatments which all helps. I used to work as a model, it was a brief career of 2 years because I didn’t enjoy it that much and wanted to study.

I was in a cafe today when a woman groomed to a very high standard came in, like me she was in her fifties. I sat there zero make up with a woolly hat squashed on my head and I did wonder if you asked anyone who the ex model was how many would pick her and not me. I wondered what she would look like without all her make up.

HarryOHayandBettyOBarley · 30/11/2023 19:11

MyNutcrackersNuts I think the posts where people ask if it’s possible to survive on one income of 80K are more memorable especially when the replies generally say no because that’s the equivalent of two people earning 40K each which isn’t a high income? That doesn’t mean MNetters are all wealthy though.

I am shocked by many of the posts on MN where people are on minimum wages, work more than two jobs or else can’t work at all due to ill health or being carers. People go to great lengths to break down benefits and credits and know this stuff inside out. It’ is really an impossible situation for many many people and many of these posters are on MN.

jesterdourt · 30/11/2023 19:19

They certainly all have beautiful daughters and tall athletic sons.

😆 the dc are always so tall!

Most 50 year olds don’t look like J Lo anywhere - rich or poor.

People are always desperate to say they are MC or UMC and on MN it seems that those who shout loudest come across as the majority.

I’ve always thought MN attracts a disproportionate amount of teachers. But that makes sense because teachers aren’t CEO.s. The people earning big salaries are not going to be sitting around on MN every day. The people living off large incomes (their own of their DHs) will not be sitting around either. Wealthy people are busy busy busy - either working and/or doing enjoyable activities. They are almost always involved in groups and sports and/or travelling. They are not sitting around on MN.

If anything MN is compromised of people with very little else to do with their spare time and evenings. It’s either MN or tv! People with a decent amount of money have far more to fill their time.

MessyTess · 30/11/2023 19:24

Some people are also full of shit….so there’s that.

I agree with this too. I’d say there are people who make up their ideal lives and post accordingly. Its a form of escapism.

shellyleppard · 30/11/2023 19:27

I'm beating men off with a metaphorical stick 😂😂😂😂

Fionaville · 30/11/2023 19:29

If the money posts on here are to be believed, mumsnet consists mostly of people in the top 5%. They all have cleaners, so their million pound homes are all immaculate and all that extra income affords them the best hair and skin. They also have large pension pots and save a large portion of their wages, so will still look immaculate when they retire, probably cruising for most of the year. It all paints a picture of a very attractive and productive woman. I don't know how she finds the time to mumsnet 🤣

TempestTost · 30/11/2023 19:30

I don't know, I guess I am ok looking, but I certainly am not well off enough to have tweakments or haircuts every six weeks.

I have never had the impression that most people on MN do.

Draoicht · 30/11/2023 19:31

TheresaCrowd · 30/11/2023 15:35

I don't understand why there are so many threads/posts claiming that the average MNetter is well off financially, when there are so many posts to the contrary?

Confirmation bias perhaps, in that some people don't register those posts? Or maybe those with money/claiming they have money just post about it more?

Agreed. In social class terms, I think Mn is overwhelmingly lower-middle class, but in income there’s a wide range, including some people who are struggling.

jesterdourt · 30/11/2023 19:40

I know quite a lot of people in expensive houses with cleaners but many have just seen huge equity gains so don’t actually have much spare cash & plenty have the money but no time for treatments. I get my hair done about 3 times a year; 2/3 different highlights & balayage. I have long thick hair & it takes hours! Soo boring.

Fromage · 30/11/2023 19:45

I am an absolutely fucking pig. Awful looking. Not one bit of me is normal or average looking, I am definitely very ugly and shabbily put together. I am shit at make up and doing my hair, I have no fashion sense but what does that matter when I am the size of a fucking bus?

So if most mners are hot sexy bitches, I am once again in the minority.

Off to break a few mirrors now, and go for a walk in the dark so I don't frighten children and horses.

Anonymouseposter · 30/11/2023 19:45

Beauty regimes and nice haircuts don’t make you attractive unfortunately. Either you have good bone structure and a symmetric face or you don’t. People on MN will be as varied as the general population.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/11/2023 19:54

"You're talking about looking younger, the OP and I are talking about looking attractive.

There's a link imo and I think Trinny looks attractive as well, even if a little 'worked on'.

They certainly all have beautiful daughters and tall athletic sons.

My sons are very athletic tall & handsome 😉
They also have an excellent diet & think their toothpaste is a delicious treat. 😸

Courtesy of disability my diet is far from excellent (or rather, there isn’t enough of it volume-wise & it then doesn’t absorb properly) so I’m dodging pressure sores & my hair - never very plentiful - is falling out at a quite alarming rate. Not exactly the best look; & relying on disability benefits doesn’t allow for a luxury lifestyle. Mostly I wear pyjamas - children’s ones, because I’m not paying VAT unnecessarily - as I’m not able to leave the house much; & while some people might covet my current glow in the dark Harry Potter PJs with Hedwig pseudo-oodie ensemble they’re unlikely to be fashionistas.

Take a look round any busy supermarket and you will see mumsnetters all around you.
In other words, we look just like other women.
Fat, thin, tall, short, perfectly turned out, looks like dressed in the dark at a jumble sale etc.
