To think most mumsnetters are attractive?

I appreciate this might be weird!
It seems to be a relatively well off demographic, plenty of money around for treatments/tweakments and lovely quality clothing.
I imagine mumsnetters have clean, well cut and expensively dyed hair.
They have plenty of funds to afford lots of fruits and vegetables in their diet and the time/energy to exercise regularly.
Aibu to think most mumsnetters will be above average looking?

They certainly all have beautiful daughters and tall athletic sons.

“Sporty, sensible teens”

YaWeeFurryBastard · 30/11/2023 15:45

I find equally as often mumsnetters will make several self depreciating comments about how average looking they are (of course unlike other vacuous women they don’t have the inclination to get their hair or nails done) however their DH is extremely handsome and rich and they’ve managed to produce tall, “head turning” children who play county level sport 😂. I distinctly remember one posted even posted a photo of her absolute hottie husband who was ALWAYS getting hit on by pesky single mums at the school gates and he looked like Bill Bailey’s twin.

ManateeFair · 30/11/2023 15:47

I myself am not especially attractive. I'd give myself 4 out of 10 without makeup and 6 out of 10 with it. I have, however, frequently been told that I have great hair and a fantastic smile, so I'm happy enough with that

DerekFaker · 30/11/2023 15:48

Don't believe everything thing you read on the Internet. Just saying.

CruellasBraVermin · 30/11/2023 15:49

I think most Mnetters look like this.

I think most Mnetters look like this.

Oi! That's my incredibly handsome, rich successful husband, and my tall hockey playing son!
Take their photo off the Internet now! I don't want him being taken by some unscrupulous moral free OW, thank you very much 😆

jannier · 30/11/2023 15:57

Nope everyone is ugly that's why they spend so much on their looks.

PokeyLaFarge · 30/11/2023 15:59

Hahaha
No
I've got a face like a spotwelders bench

And all the treatments/tweakments and lovely quality clothing etc don't make a great deal of difference if you're not particularly blessed when it comes to looks.

They'll just make you look smarter/better groomed.

I don't agree with that.
Two 20 year olds, one rich, one poor - no big difference.
Two 50 year olds, one rich, one poor - massive difference due to treatments, etc. Look at Trinny from Trinny and Susannah, nearly 60 and looks like 30.

You also get a lot fo comments when someone mentions a rich, celebrity who looks young 'oh most 50 years olds I know look like that'. The average 50 year old in a poor area does not look like Jennifer Anniston or Jay Lo.

Doesn't work like that!

DidiAskYouThough · 30/11/2023 16:01

I look like molten shit and dress like the ultimate slob. Love eating and never excercise. Ta dah.

Mothership4two · 30/11/2023 16:04

Aibu to think most mumsnetters will be above average looking?

Well, while I have to agree with you there 😊, I don't exercise as much as I should do and don't have regular treatments/tweakments or lovely quality clothing. Since lockdown I have dyed my own hair, but do get it cut regularly (hardly unusual) and eat fruit and veg - again not unusual and you can buy quite them quite reasonably priced as long as you pick and choose and aren't buying asparagus and Heligan pineapples every single day.

Mothership4two · 30/11/2023 16:06

She's not wrinkly enough @CruellasBraVermin from all the constant showering

OP have you missed all the posts about people not being able to afford the basics? Have you read about posters going to food banks and not being able to afford heating?
Have you read the posts where posters said they’d think nothing of physically fighting with people, shoplifting etc

There may be a minimum number of MN who are on 150K+ but I can guarantee you that the majority are not and the majority are trying to keep their heads above water and are lucky to go on one holiday a year. You are perceiving the minority to be the majority.

And don’t forget that anyone can claim anything on the internet. There will be a few who will post about their imaginary lifestyles too.

There are poor people and there are those who are struggling on MN, but the average MNer is much wealthier than the average person.

Gnomegnomegnome · 30/11/2023 16:11

I think that the joy of mumsnet is that it reaches a wide audience. Different backgrounds, values, beliefs, tastes, styles etc.

Nanny0gg · 30/11/2023 16:12

I have my hair cut and coloured.

I am waxed

My nails and toenails are manicured and painted

My clothes are quite nice but hardly designer

I am old

I am fat

I have never been 'tweaked'

I am not particularly attractive

Or were you only referring to younger MNetters?

Gwenhwyfar · 30/11/2023 16:12

TheresaCrowd · 30/11/2023 15:35

I don't understand why there are so many threads/posts claiming that the average MNetter is well off financially, when there are so many posts to the contrary?

Confirmation bias perhaps, in that some people don't register those posts? Or maybe those with money/claiming they have money just post about it more?

There aren't so many posts to the contrary though.
There are far more where people asks questions like 'what is a decent wage' and get the reply 'over 60k' .
Look at the S&B threads and the cost of the items recommended.

bryceQ · 30/11/2023 16:13

I get the opposite impression, everyone seems to describe themselves as hideous. I don't think I ever meet people day-to-day who I think are hideous, surely there must be a lot of self-deprecation

DrCoconut · 30/11/2023 15:38

@SkaneTos That is possibly the only advantage i can think of for winter, bad hair days can be easily disguised with a hat. Said hat makes me look more like Compo than the chic models you see in magazines though 😫

Warm hats aren't flattering though and you look even worse when you take the hat off.

Are you single? 🥹👉👈

We're all beautiful in our own ways.

EmpressSoleil · 30/11/2023 16:22

I also think most MNers are average in the looks department, as am I. Well I am average on a good day, far below that on a bad one!

I do think some are delusional though! So insistent that even though they're in their 50s they're regularly mistaken for late 20s 🙄even famous women who look great at 50 can generally pass for 40s at best. But then people are delusional about that too! Someone mentioned Trinny upthread looking like she's in her 30s. I saw her on an ad the other day, yeah she looks good but still very close to her age.

I'm in my 50s and see many women who make an effort and look nice. But they're clearly in their 50s (unless of course they're really 70 and do look 20 years younger!). But I do generally guess right (although don't post) on the "guess my age" threads.

In conclusion I would say that yes there's probably a fair amount of people on MN who make an effort. But not a higher proportion of naturally attractive people.

Well considering that's pretty much my lifestyle, no I haven't missed it thank you!
My impression of mn is that most women on here don't struggle and can afford things that would make them more attractive.

All their children are incredibly talented, private education, grammar schools & top universities after gaining straight A* at everything. I don't think I've ever seen a post about an average child at the local comp who might scrape a few GCSEs if they have a good day.
