Kate was staunchly middle class. The royals are notoriously snobby. Aibu to think that Carole did not & wouldn't be capable of engineering this? How the hell would she be able to do this?!

I think it was Uncle Gary who engineered it all. In the same way that Anne Boleyn's uncle, the Duke of Norfolk, helped her get hitched to Henry.

It was announced more than a year in advance that William was to study History of Art at St. Andrews, so plenty of time for Catherine (and others) to apply to the same course.

I've had dealings with the Middletons through work, they are utterly vile people. I dont think they engineered it but have benefitted from it! I believe Kate is lovely though

But fucking hell i thought our family was middle class when I growing up - semi-deteched (but in the wrong end of the village). Turns out (as my DS told me), we are working class. No where near socially acceptable for the royals.

My son was born the same month as Princess Charlotte, we used to joke when he was born he'd be our little Prince. But jesus we weren't serious!

Can you imagine how much Catherine will have been vetted before the marriage was allowed to go ahead? I imagine it would have been incredibly thorough and attempted to wheedle out if she was in it for the wrong reasons, because

1-Charles' first marriage was a disaster.
2-public extremely invested in William and Harry because of what happened to their mother
3-precarious position of popularity of royal family (because scandals may abound now-but multiple divorces and embarassments of the generation before)
4-future King
5-A commoner in the eyes of royal circlers.

And probably 100s of other reasons-any attempted manipulation or connivance will have been sniffed out and suggested to PW. Pretty sure this is why is took so long for the engagement to happen (extended vetting)

Regardless of how it happened, they look happy together and I think Catherine carries herself with a lot of dignity and poise. Which is more than can be said for some of the actual blood related Royals.

I’m around the same age and was at a uni he was rumoured to be attending. Myself and my friends were very excited and determined to shag him if he had joined 😂.

As it turned out, he went to St Andrews and we had to make do with friends of his from Eton ☹️.

Let’s not forget, she was a kid. I doubt she was thinking of becoming Queen, just bagging herself the most eligible uni boyfriend!

As for the Chile expedition, so many kids from the public boarding schools go off and do their gap years in the same places. Nothing conveniently coincidental about that. It’s a well trodden path.

The thing I notice about this thread is the complete lack of understanding of the Scottish University system.
Like many countries, Scotland has a broader based curriculum in late High school and early undergraduate years.
